I'm having a lot of fun trying different hammers to flair out the finger guard. Once you get the hang of hammering the guard area, you can use any rounded or taper shaped hammer. The top unfinished blade, I used my 3# cross peen to put a big flare into a thick piece of 5160. If you are forging your blades, try it for a completely different feel to you knife...tippit

I had a chance to buy a knife with the flaired guard this spring but passed, I'm sorry now!
I want to see them finished Doc!

Chris, Our deer season doesn't start til Oct 13Th plus I did not draw my Montana Elk tag to hunt with Doug :( Looks like I'll have to kill some time forging and go Atlantic Salomon fishing with my spey fly rod in New Brunswick...not so bad :) Doc
