Title: I would love to see Bowdoc's work!
Post by: snag on January 22, 2008, 08:01:00 PM
If anyone here has had Don refinish their bow I would love to see his work. I have a recurve with him right now.

I gotta go to bed, or I would do a photo essay for you. The bow has such pretty wood, though, that you would shortly short out your keyboard. Sorry.

I have more pics but I don't want you to get your keyboard covered in drool!

Don does outstanding work.  You would not be disapointed to have him give new life to your bow.
One of my brothers has a 56 Kodiak he had done redo.  Spectacular.

This is a '69 styleI B riser Don did for me-I also asked him to take some mass out of the riser to more closely resemble the the lines of my old styleII. He's the only person I would have trusted to do the work and he did an excellent job. He's done others for me as well but I don't have photos handy. Grant

Grant, you need to re-size your phots to 640pixels or less to post...

I don't have picture capabilities, but Don Refinished a 69 Bear Super Mag for me 4 years ago & it looked like it came from the factory when I got it back. You will be happy. Frank

The Bowdoc's work is first class.

Here's a 62 Kodiak brought back to life by the doctor.

...and here's a 59 Kodiak he gave new life.

I am guessing when he does a bow it is actually better than new.

I don't think anything ever came out of Grayling looking as nice as these bows do.

Regards...........

Those are some beautiful bows. Bowdoc will definitely be getting a bow from me to work on very soon.

I haven't had any work done yet as I kind of like the "scars' on my bow  :)  but I have seen his work and it is outstanding! He has repaired bows that anyone else would have given up for dead. He is among the finest of men too and I would trust him with anything I owned.

Shovelbuck, sorry but I have no pics of the bows before Don got them.  Good idea to do that in the future.

He replaced the leather grip on the 59 and would have replaced the tips if they needed it.  The after market decals are identical and he replaces those handwritten numbers/letters himself.

Don sure has a passion for old Bear bows and his mind is filled with Bear history and trivia.  Many of us would be lucky to have half the knowledge he possesses.

I guess this is sorta like asking a Japanese master bladesmith to make a camp axe, but does Bowdoc do work on newer or non-Bear bows? I have a couple I'd like to get reduced and refinished. Looks like he does some amazing work.
