Title: Finally got back in the shop
Post by: jgbennett6 on March 11, 2008, 10:31:00 PM
I made these for some close hunting buddies they are 1085 and 2.75" long top one is tiger maple from my fathers wood lot, that we hunt, it has my usual red/black/red spacers. the botton one i tried to quilt the blade a bit and i used stacked veneers for teh handle.

yeah can you believe we burned half of that tree for firewood before we noticed teh pattern!!!...I call it quilting, not really a good term or not, jsut what i call it, I put a waved pattern in the blade jsut to make it interesting, doesn't help or hurt the performance!

I really like the look of your "quilting."  Did you do that by stock removal (grinder or belt sander) or did you do it durring the forging.  Well done and thanks for posting.

Awesome looking knives.  I really like the tiger maple.  Is it known as something else, or is tiger wood its real name?  I wood like to find some of that.

Thanks for teh Kinda words guys, haha Doc you are right these are babies compared to the one i sent you!.. i have always called it tiger maple or striped maple. and for some reason the bucks around here love to rub up on the stuff. whenever i walk through the woods i'm always looking for a burled chunk of tree somewhere!
