Title: Pretty Cool Forum!
Post by: tippit on January 18, 2008, 09:24:00 AM
I'm really glad to see this forum working out!  For me traditional bowhunting has always been about making and enjoying some of your own equipment.  I can't tell ya'll how exciting it is to see guys (hopefully gals too) wanting to try making something sharp and put it to use.  Then to top it off having some very experienced knife makers like Lin Rhea, kbaknife, fisk, Doug Campbell, the list goes on...jumping in to help out.  Just thought I'd say thanks to everyone...Doc

Now all you guys need is for one or more of these professional bladesmiths to become sponsors and get a banner up top. Really make the forum about knives top to bottom.

OH Man this is very cool!! I really appreciate it Doc but I don't think I belong in that list.

Dang it sure tickles me seeing you Pro's coming around as well as all the newbies (to knife making anyway) participating!

I've always been mostly a lurker around here, but I got bit by the knife bug too, Before Christmas I threw a "quick forge" together, cut a hole in a large tin coffee can and placed on top of my coleman burning (nice blue flame) backpack stove......it worked alright but could be better, but it did the trick and made a nice knife for my nephew out of an old file.
You knife makers here and other forums have inspired me to do better, Thanks for sharing all your info and thanks to TG.

Tradtional Bowhunting was the driving force behind me becoming a knife maker!
There I was one day, getting ready to field dress a doe I harvested. I had my take-down recurve made for me by a bowyer in Michigan and I had him use my own osage as an accent strip on the riser.
I have made my own arrows since I graduated high school in '72, so I had my own arrows, and they were fletched with goose feathers from a goose I shot. My quiver was autographed by Glen St. Charles!
And there I was, with a store bought $30.00 knife.
I thought, "What's wrong with this picture!?!? This doe deserves more than that."
Not long after that, I found a Blade Magazine at the grocery store, and that was 10 years ago................

Ok Frank you asked.....

Made with all recycled goods, the knife was an old file, the calf hair and leather were from a dog bed my brother was throwing out

I notched the spine to create sparks from the flint stick, which the handle was made from an old shed I found stumpin one day if you look close you can see some teeth marks from critters gnawing on it.

Doc, I think you need to be added to the list as well. I've seen and fondled   :D   your knives and they belong at the top of the list.

I also think this so awesome to be able to read and ask of the best.

Hey Karl,

Good to see you hang out in all the right places. I'll send you a picture of that Kenny Rowe sheath and your knife soon.

Wow Gene that looks great. I was thinking about adding a sharpening stick to a sheath. I know if I need to make a fire I'll have a half dozen bic lighters on hand LOL! That sheath looks very cool.<><<><

Frank, I like the idea of a sharpening stick with the sheath, perhaps on my next project I'll do that, BTW I've watched your knives progress from the beginning along with Doug C, Jeremy RGK, Rob Tat, Doc and others. I've got a long way to go...
When ya get a chance can you PM me your address?
