Title: My Custom 2 Knife Sheath
Post by: Suty on January 17, 2008, 04:18:00 PM
Look what arrived by UPS today ! Finally, my New Custom Sheath made to fit both of my Knives. I wanted a Double Knife Sheath to fit the knives I carry when I hunt. Chris at Treestump Leather in Maine took up the challenge of creating a Sheath that not only looks good, but will hold my Knives tight no matter what terrain or S.Tejas brush I encounter. Here's a few pic's

I wished ! it is a Weidmannsheil Brand, I bought it when I discovered the cost of the "like" Puma Folder. It is good quality, the spear point blade locks and the construction is excellent, Brass bolsters etc. I am headed to germany for a friends Wedding in June and hope to pick up the puma Version.  Gracias, tu compadres, Suty

Suty,

"Weidmannsheil" is a german hunters greeting for "good luck". I was stationed in Germany for 6 years and hunted as often as I could, you'll love the country, I have many relatives just north of Frankfurt. Good looking set-up. For knives you might want to try and make it to "Kettners" it's a German hunting store.

Tom, I was stationed there for 2 yrs back 81-83 with 3/2 ACR in Amberg. I will definately look up "Kettners" Yeah, the Knife says Weidmannsheil and has a Stag with the Soligen on the blade. Who really makes it ? I don't know. The Knife website states the company went out of business in the 90's and these knives are from left over stock. I don't know....I liked the knife and could'nt afford the "Like" Puma, so I bought it. Thanks for the info. Tu Compadres, Suty

Soligen steel is some of the best blade steel that I've owned, easy to sharpen and holds an edge.

Thats a beauty! It would be hard for me to carry it hunting or anywhere it might get dinged.

Hey all,

The Weidmansheil in my opinion is a better quality knife than the puma.  They closed up shop back in the 90's because they refused to go to mass production.  The blades are all handmade and hammerforged.  About 2 years ago a large mass of knife blanks that were found in a warehouse, so the market has been flooded with knives that have the blades but are assembled with other parts.  It really drove the price of these knives down. Unfortunatly its hard to discern the original from the new assembled.
