Title: old Bear bow quivers - which one?
Post by: bbassi on January 20, 2008, 09:07:00 AM
I'm starting my search for an old Bear quiver to go with my '68 grizzly. I'm not sure what style I want though. My only restriction is it should be approximately from the same time period (late 60's). Can you tell me what you like and why please?

Brent,

Try to find one of the old green "tape-on" quivers. They seem to rattle less than the double spring arm quivers do.

When you find a tape-on quiver it will probly be all bent and twisted "wrong". Get a block of soft wood (i.e. pine) and a soft mallet (rawhide, rubber, plastic) and tap the feet back into shape. Then you can work, tap, bend, shape the feet to fit your bow. Then just tape it on with good old fashioned electrical tape.

I'll see you at the Bunny Hunt, and you can see how I put the "leather-top" quiver on the JLMBH bow.

Brent....the snap-on quivers can be quieted very well with som moleskin or rawhide.  They were quite prevalent in the late 60's and would compliment that Grizzly nicely.  Some things just take more work than others but it makes the outcome more rewarding.  I really liked the old 8 arrow model.

I use the old Bear quivers exclusively..biggest noise maker I have found is the rivets that hold the cap on.. They seem to rattle loose. I have tried to replace them with poor luck, but rubbing something like "Shoo Goo" into them works wonders. If you shoot anything other than fence post, you'll find most of the grippers will let the arrows slide a bit,,,"Shoo Goo" or rubber bands to the rescue again.
If I am not mistaken I think Raghorn has a bunch of different quivers listed in the classifieds if they haven't all been sold

thanks guys. Now I have too figure out how to tell a right hand from a left on that auction site (I need a lefty). I saw one tape on listed as a lefty, but the pictures look like a righty. I have no idea how the spring arm ones are suppose to look. LOL

$10 says I buy the wrong side first time around.    :readit:

Eral E. Nov,
I picked up a Kodiak Mag with an old brown bear 4 arrow quiver that screws to the side of the bow.  The screw is missing.  Where can I pick a screw up to attach the quiver to the bow?
Thanks,
