Title: starting nocking point?

Hello all. I am trying to set up a new recurve and was wondering what height to set the nocking point for a start?

HI Tom,
Most wind up around 3/8 to 5/8" above square. Start out about 5/8" above square and shoot a bareshaft, if the bareshaft arrow is nock high in the target then slowly, about 1/8 " at a time lower your nock point until the arrow is sticking straight out of the target and you are seeing good arrow flight up and down wise to the target.

Giving you a measurement above the arrow is not the best way to start as arrow diameters can really effect what happens to the arrow angle. Take you measurement to the bottom of the arrow and start about 1/8" above square of course the nock point goes above the arrow if that is the way you want it, some nock above the nock point. If you shoot split finger that should be just about right. Three under you will need to go higher, but that will be depend on the bows tiller.
