I was lQQking to find out how to date a recurve bow I picked up that is a New/Old never been shot Ben Pearson Cougar 962-64" Recurve.
The markings on the riser say 61_1780 40#_28".
The family said their dad always bought two of everything. Including law mowers etc.
The second item typically never got used.
This bow was never shot.
It comes with the original swede case with the markings stamped King 68.
Your bow is a 1959 if it has tan glass
or
a 1960 if it has cream colored glass.
This info can be found on ArcheryArchives.com
As you will see the Cougar was made for the majority of the 50's and 60's. Someyimes it was a962, 964, 702 etc. You have to see when it was called a 962 like yours. Then you see that in most of the years it was called a 962 it was not available in 64" but rather 54". The only 2 years it was called a 962 and was available in 64" was 59 and 60. SO now we are down to the glass color.
I expected a snide comment about "dinner and a movie" given the title.
I have purchased some older Bear bows and am always intrigued about the vintage. This forum is a wealth of such knowledge. Looks like Bill is a Pearson Historian.
Todd
Todd....LMAO.
You are going to make me choose my words my wisely next time. Anyway, why did you really check out this posting?/LOL
BILL,
Thanks for the info. I thought as early as you said. I figured the 61 was for 1961 which is the year I was born.
The glass on the face appears to be cream and the color of the back os a redish brown. As you can tell from the pictures, even the rest is original.
Here are two pictures.

That's really pretty! Looks like cream to me - I think you got a 1960.
Real pretty 1960 there.
