Title: Gore Windstopper
Post by: kadbow on January 16, 2008, 08:29:00 PM
Does the gore windstopper material breath better than gore-tex or other "breathable" waterproof fabrics?

I have some Windstopper stuff and some basic gore-tex stuff.  I think the difference is that windstopper is simply a laminated membrane that is put between the liner and the outer shell of the garment.  It provides a degree of wind resistence, whereas basic gore-tex just offers a waterproof capability.  Windstopper won't stop the rain, unless you get a garment that has both.  I think they both breathe about the same.

Gore-tex stops wind&rain, Gore Windstopper stops wind and is is water "repellent" ( light rain )
the Stopper breaths better than the Tex, of course, but you'll never see me climbing 10 thousand footers mountains in the Winter or backpacking Northern Maine in the Fall with Stopper. I only carry Gore-tex new generation XCR nowadays
