A few month's ago, my hunting friend contacted Don "the real bowdoc" Ward about giving new life to a 45 year old bow, a 1962 Kodiak.
This 55# Bear had obviously seen some use, but was not abused. The limbs were straight, without stress lines and the brazillian rosewood riser was free of flaws. The only hole was the factory installed screw for the quiver.
Doctor Don completed the surgery yesterday and the bow left the hospital looking better than new.

The bowdoc replaced the old quiver screw with a working compass. The photo fails to really show the beauty in this old timer. (Those "spots" are glare from our rare NW sunshine.)

With a new string in place, this classic was whisper quiet and spit arrows down range with authority.

We are really fortunate to have "doctors" like Don Ward and Rich Lopez as a part of the tradgang community.
Wow thanks BH.Glad he liked everything. Those are pretty bows, the old rosewood does it for me.Again and as always Thanks dude, you da man
OUTSTANDING, Congrats to the owner & to the Doc  :archer:
Holy cow! That is one fine looking bow there! Them old bears get in your blood,I'll tell you! I recently picked up a 66 Kodiak with a side bushing for a quiver. That compass is a great idea and a nice touch! Nice work!

Hi Don; just curious as to where you get your compasses and what kind of bit to install?? Great work on that Rosewood bow!!!!
Sergio
Pete,
Why cover up the screw hole ifin its factory installed? The compass looks great don't get me wrong, just wondered why ya wanted to mod it from its original form. Tim
Sweet!
wow!!! thats real nice
Tim I bet it wasn't a factory hole knowing bowdoc
It was a factory hole, but my friend had other quiver choices and did not want an "unsightly" big ole screw stuck there in the riser.
He is not a collector, just an appreciative archer favoring vintage Bears...and he wants to use it as well as look at it. In our opinion, the compass enhances, not detracts, from the bow's appearance and usefullness.
The bowdoc's knowledge and appreciation of these vintage Bears is really evident. This man loves what he does...and he does a remarkable job!
Hey guys does the bow doc reduce limb weight? How do I contact him?
Bill
pm SENT to bowdoc...ty mark
A '62 Kodiak massaged by 'BowDoc'. It can't get much better than that. Waiting to see the magic he instilled in my '70 Super K..........Shick
Sweet compass work.
The 1962 Kodiak and the 1957 Kodiak are IMHO, the best shooters Bear ever built. The owner is a lucky guy-nice job bowdoc!!
My Lord!!! That is some nice work Don! As soon as I get my new Morrison, I am sending you my Jack Howard Gamemaster Jet to see what you can do to my sweetheart.
Wow thank you everyone,I am humbled...Sergio the compass came from 3 Rivers Archery. The one in the 1962 Kodiak is an 18MM (the largest diameter 3r's sells) and takes 11/16th drill bit.One note I would add....the compass will NOT fit into the 11/16th hole as listed in thier catalog.I do have to gently sand the otter edges of the compasses with 150 grit sandpaper....bowdoc
Very nice work there yet again.
Very very impressive.
Great job.
Great work...I sent ya email...mark
Another great job by Bowdoc-Everyone came out great with this one. BTW, any word on my latest fixer-uppers? I'm sure there are some accomplished craftsmen in this group and I wouldn't want to slight anyone but Don Ward is a wizard-nice guy too. Grant
Thank You Doc. You do awesome work !! I'll PM you soon about a Rosewood Tice & Watts I have to get refinished.
Thanks for all the kind words on the '62 Kodiak lovingly restored by the Bowdoc. As the lucky owner
I will tell you that the results are magnificent. Bow looks like it came straight from a dealers shelf
despite it's 45 years. In fact, better than from a dealer. As I write this message, my loving wife is on hands and knees in the rec room cutting and sewing a bowcase for it using a Native American print. Thanks again Bowdoc and Hawkeye for your input.
WOW,good job!! Nice bow!!
Thank you all so much for the kind words, bowdoc
