It's well into the new year, time for some 2008 pics!!! I pulled my 2 Cuddebacks from one farm yesterday, will get them set on another farm this week. Here's a few pics that I got.
Camera #1, over a mineral lick.
Nice fat doggy!!!

Future Compton's world record???????lol
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b147/fireman_3311/1-5-081jpg.jpg)
Camera #2, set over a scrape, and an intersection of 2 "logging roads".
Purty sunset!!!
Sumpthin's squirrelly!!!
Wow...awesome collection of predators  . I love those pictures...thanks for sharing them.
wow holy crap that is awesome getting bobcats on cam. and yotes. Very Cool!!!!
Brad, get your warm clothes out, cold weather comin this weekend. They'll be hungry for a poor injured rabbit,it takes calories to stay warm!!
That made me hungry!! LOL
I think the cats are partial to birds and come in real slow, maybe somebody here is a cat caller......
Yeah Kenny, bobcats come in real slow. Set where you can see around you and out aways. If you dont, about the time you think nothings coming in and you get up to leave and there they are,and there they go. Also they like to come in and then just stop and sit down and watch, and watch, and watch. And yes the bird calls work on them real good, although cottontail in distress works too. Bob
Thanks Bob,I've only called one in while deer huntin in Dec. Must have been mating season,I heard that mournful reeeeoww like a big tomcat, imitated it(I was bored),2 minutes later here he was.
Nice pics. Brad. I would be doing some calling for sure. Nothing like calling in a cat.
Hmmmmm, how bout a smallish turkey decoy? Nah,prolly be better off with the feathers!
here are a couple from last week around an old apple tree...
this one I call ghost doe
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/hickstick/trailcam/ghostdoe.jpg)
this one I couldn't quite figure out what the deer in the front was doing, until I realized it had a frozen apple in its mouth.
this ones got a pretty good sized gut going on..
the funniest thing about this spot is the deer never touched a single apple until the last week of decemeber after a pretty good freeze and snowfall....these pics (sorry-low res cell phone pics) taken in novemeber show how many apples where there...
Marc: Apples can be like that. Some of them are pretty bitter and deer don't seem to like the taste. Hunger later in the season and the fact that freezing makes them more palatable makes them a gold mine later in the year.
yah...I know bill..kinda like 'ice wine'...where they let the grapes freeze to concentrate the sugars...
that plus the fact that the place was LOADED with white oak acorns the entire fall....normally this tree gets so much action when they drop that I've literally seen a semicircular scrap (a whole bunch of smaller scrapes running together) around half of the drip line of the tree.
BTW both trailcam pics where cheap stealthcam 35mm. (I think I paid about $35 bucks for them)
I always enjoy these threads....fun to see what's running around our wood lot while we are stuck at work.
This is our night hog feeder. I guess they missed the memo

Hey Brad I pulled one of my cameras off of a deer bait station (road kill) and got 1,092 pictures in five days.
Its been really cold with snow and the animals are really moving. The boys and I are going to do some calling Monday.
I can't post pictures but I can email some if you want to see them.
Tracy

Great pics guys.
Guys, this is the most I've seen of these fellows, just got lucky,no mineral or corn, might be a good place for a stand?? ;)
Curt, its a 100.00 moultrie digital.Figured out a couple things, like how to take 3 at an event, and also set it on high res, think that slows the shutter speed down tho, cause had a couple blurred pics when a doe moved her head.
Nice cat,lost arra!!
Heres this weeks best, the high water doesn't bother the deer as much as farmers!! The nice ones only come by once??? :banghead:

Are these pics from your new camera that emails them to your cell phone?
No Joey- you are "The Man". No these are from the lowest end Moultrie! Works well.Jury is still out on the Smartscouter.
Are they out of velvet?
Been out for a week or so. Our rut is actually in late August-early Sept.!!! We saw rubs this weekend. And Mosquito's!Did I mention Mosquito's?
Nice bucks Marty, crazy they are out of velvet. Here's a few from Tracy(K.S.Trapper)

When do they shed their antlers there? Man,don't know how they can grow em that fast!! We've got near another month of growth here. Usually see some w/o velvet by Aug. 20 or so.
This is after 3 weeks of set-up near one of my early season stands. Got two other pix of smaller bucks. 18 pix of my face trying to get it workin right. :bigsmyl: Not a lot of deer on this place but some pretty good Bucks.
I need to get a easier-to-use camera. This taken with a moultrie. Hope he's a victim come September.

Thats a good un Gun, good luck !!
Nice buck Marty !!
Tracy
Marty that's a heck of a buck for south Florida. You need to be congratulated on the quality of improvement since you've been managing that property the last few years. Night and day difference in quality. If everyone could see the difference in the last few years they'd also be blown away. Good job buddy! BW
Marty, great Florida deer!
Here's a deer I got on camera last week.... I hope!!! this my first attempt to post a pic here!! (http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l322/bowwood/cambuck2.jpg) (http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l322/bowwood/cambuck1.jpg)

I be you're stoked!!!
Ya'll are making me want to play the trail cam game again....haven't in a year
Here is my best deer so far this year on Cam. He looks to be a 10 pointer.

Bill
Bill, What kind of cam is that last pic from?
Cool pictures everyone!
Guru, That is the cheapo Moultrie 2.0 BUT I would never recommend that battery eating slow trigger camera. I had the resolution set at LOW on my I4.0 and it is twice the camera.... Much better trigger and battery life. The 2.0 will take 5 pictures to my 35mm Stealth cam's 24 or the I4.0 might have 50 pictures. I recently changed the 4.0 to higher resolution because I thought the last pix were grainy. That was mostly du to the fact that I had a secondary trail that the deer used and even though they trigger the cam, the pix were not so clear. I enjoy my trail cameras. It is like catch and release hunting.
Bill
Thanx Bill...right now I'm torn between the Moultrie I4.0 and the Game Scout 550
Great pix guys!!
I like Lostarras picture of the bobcat walking in front of the archery range- my favorite :)
so far....
Alabama Bucks....... (http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/rickybob_2006/DSC_0082.jpg) (http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/rickybob_2006/DSC_0019.jpg) (http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/rickybob_2006/DSC_0173.jpg) (http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/rickybob_2006/DSC_0176.jpg)
Guru
I have been using cuddebacks the last four years and my brother got an I40 for a Christmas present. The Cuddeback has a better trigger speed but we have over 3500 pics off of this single camera and have only changed the batteries once. In comparison I have changed the batteries in the cuddeback six times with a 1000 less pics. We leave the cameras out the whole year. While we will continue using the Cuddebacks we have, we will be buying only the I40 from now on. We find the temp. and moon phase on the pictures to be very useful. Just my two cents.
Great pics all around!
Todd
Thanx Jim, I just talked to DW and said the same thing.....I'm buyin' two I40's!!
Does anyone have any experience with the Stealth Cam Epic digital video camera?
For $169.00 at Cabelas, it looks like it would be a lot of fun to see and hear video. Or should I just stay with still pics?
Thanks for the info in advance,
John
I can share some of my photos--hope you enjoy these, they came off my camera last week--season starts in 2 weeks--I cant wait!!!!

KENNY, WHAT CAMERA DO YOU HAVE AND DO YOU GET A LOT OF BLANK PICS?
Good deer Kenny
Mike,
I get some blanks, just looked at files. This time 20 out of 42 were blanks(3 pics per event) and last round was 7 of 21 blanks(3 pics per event) Its a Moultrie gamewatcher 2.1,its a couple years old so they probably make a better one for the same $ now! The only gripes I've had is battery life and the speed at which it wakes up,if the deer is walkin fast,ya don't get what ya want!!
The battery life I've got under control,it took the square 6v lantern batteries with the springs on top,so I bought a 6v tractor battery and ran wire leads to the ground where the battery sits,I don't know how many pics it'll take on a charge...........
TJ,you've got some good ones there too,I can't get the closeups you do tho!! LOL
Check out the tree!!!!

Keep em coming. Loving the pics.
This pic is from last year, but I saw him just the other night. No new pics yet, but the good news is - he's still around! as soon as I have a pic from this year I'll post it.
Dang Brent, could you please give me grid coordinates to that little fella? :saywhat:
We set a cam up on our club last year 2 weeks before archery season and got pics of 3 different bucks with split brow tines. All of the pics of these bucks were taken between midnight until 3am. We have hunted this same property for 25 years and nobody in our club has ever seen a single buck with split brow tines. I wish they would come out during shooting hours. Pat
Marty- that looks like one big scoring bear!
Brian, don't encourage him. He has enough trouble judging bears.......
Yeah, but I like the cub's legs hanging out of the tree better!!! As Biggie says, I ain't real good at judging bears, bucks, hogs, you name it.
Excotement overruns my judgement. How's that for the truth, Biggie?
Right on Marty!
Our PH in Africa said Marty was "the most excitable hunter he's ever seen."
great pic's everybody. kytj where are you from in KY? love that pic of the buck right up close and personal with the camera.
Here's one from the last card I pulled, I also had two bear pics from that card but I haven't gotten the two good bucks from last year........yet.

Nice Bucks
Cool,TJ!! Hope to see your face in a pic with him!! He doesn't look old enough to be packin that!!
He redefines the term "FREAK NASTY"....Tom I'll be looking for a picture of him come September 6th...Good luck getting him
Holy Crap TJ, If I where you I wouldnt leave the woods come opening day !!!
No big bucks yet, but seeing these two playing was pretty good.

Very cool buck TJ, I wish you luck on seeing him come hunting season.
Tracy
Very impressive deer TJ! I agree with you Kenny, he looks like a young deer. I would guess him to be a 2.5 or 3.5 year old deer.
Thanks guys. Problem with that extra beam is it will snap off very easily once he sheds and starts rubbing or sparring. Hope to get him in close early before he breaks it off.
Here is one i found on state land....

I may need to shoot bodkin points to take down one of these. That John Deere appears a lot tougher than the other whitetails running around!
Kinda close......

Marty..that bear MIGHT weigh 150.....
Yeah, Just like you weigh 200!!!!!
i didn't even realize FL had bears!
Marty, you're like Steve Martin in the movie "The Jerk" not cause you're a jerk, but the scene where he was running the guess your weight booth at the circus. He sucked at it too....
Maybe , just maybe ,someday, I'll be as good at judging bears as you! All I know is- that is one big bear. I know where he's hangin out and I will put you there on opening day of deer season. Let it be written...........
I ain't askeered.....
Looked big to me ! us small bear guys have to stick together.
Marty killed two bears in Alberta one week. He bleached the skulls made earrings out of them for RuthAnn
:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
I can't hang with you guys, I'm gonna get in trouble. Somebody post a pic....
That's true Biggie, but the toilet seat covers I made from the hides are really neat.Bears really confuse me. I thought the last trail cam picture may have been a big one, guess I'm wrong again. But I can tell you about hogs, Biggie, and you haven't killed one near the size that Joey and I have! Joey took your soul on his boar last turkey season. Find it yet?
You guys seem to have this trail cam thing pretty well nailed down... so I will ask the experts a question.
My Dad has a trail camera set out. He gets lots of pictures with no animals in them. Great pictures, just of the same patch of woods over, and over, and over again. Is something spoofing the camera, or are the deer waving a hoof in front of the trigger from behind the tree and running?
As far as I can tell everything is working right (we did get several outstanding pictures of Mom going by on the 4-wheeler) so I don't think there are any malfunctions.
What is the prognosis?
OkKeith
is it facing the sun ? sometimes that will false trigger, I try and set up with the animals coming to the camera or going away from it so they are in the frame for a few moments. of course some cameras are just slow.
Here are a couple of pics, not currant but kind of neet, the buck is from right behind my house, and the hog is in Louisiana in still in the swamp from what I hear, almost had a shot once.
(http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/hogdancer/marty%20hog/backyard125.jpg) (http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/hogdancer/marty%20hog/pig7-31-060752.jpg)
Small game--Birds, squirrels, etc, or running deer. Depends on the camera as to speed. We get lots of those photos too, but upon closer inspection we'll see a small animal. Most of these camera have a sensitivity setting. Most of our pic's are at feeders which are allowed in Florida. Gsme is usually busy munching away, hence good pic's.
Doghancer, You still showin that same ole hog picture? Time for a new one. We all know it got out of that domestic hog farm down the road.
Biggie, Is that a big hog?
that is one fat piggie!
Yes Marty that's a big DOMESTIC escapee.
I guess if Hogdancer kills it we'll have the Hogzilla deal all over again....
dont know about the domestic thing, he has been in the woods for at least 4 years that I know of, I don't know his lineage before that I'll let you internet hunters debate that , he is as wary as any hog I have ever seen, maybe more so, he's still there.
I will check the angle of the sun. Since the camera records the time on the picture, I guess if they are all about the same time that would give evidence to something hinkey.
How do you know if you have a slow camera or not. It is a digital model (I bought it for him for Fathers Day) and is a reputable brand name. It wasn't a really expensive model though.
I have shot a few hogs, but never even SEEN one like that. If ya could train him to walk in the ring, you could win every county fair in the state.
OkKeith
(His lineage don't matter Hogdancer, they are ALL domestic escapees. If you get a chance to drop a string on that one I would love to see a photo!)
He's not too wary...he's out in the daylight :-)
Quit making excuses and go kill him. We wanna see!
Now Biggie, was'nt it you that said you can't kill a hog by stalking him at a feeder ?.... Oh wait Joey proved you wrong on that did'nt he ! :biglaugh:
I don't know where that came from...Marty probably. He misquotes me all the time. What I said was, you won't kill a big boar hog while SITTING at a feeder. He WILL circle before coming in.
My biggest hogs have all come via stalking, and not feeders either :-)
that's what I get for listening to Joey & Marty!
You should shoot that refugee and get his DNA tested. Or just shoot him post pics and make sausage.
Just post pics when ya whack him!
J
Yeah they were all escapees at one time or another.
I just came in from the woods , my stand is right behind these deer.
(http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/hogdancer/trail%20cam/hwy70152.jpg) (http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/hogdancer/trail%20cam/hwy70082.jpg)
Thomas, Exactly when are you and Joey goin Elk Hunting?
Thomas: You did see the one off to the right didn't you? Looks like maybe you were listening when you came to bootcamp. If you don't get one of those babies I'm gonna be very disappointed in you. The pressure is on! BW
Thats a nice bachelor group there. maybe they'll stay in summer pattern till season opener
Marty....I feel a road trip coming. You call Tracy and I'll pack the truck..
I can hear Tracy cutting Joey's grass from my stand.
Barry, Thanks ! I needed more pressure, now that I have the lucky hat that yoi sent me. it should be easy, right ? Yes I saw the one on the right..
OkKeith, sometimes you get a "hot spot" in front of the camera, warmer than the surroundings and that can cause false triggers.Maybe your camera is in the edge of the trees pointed out in a field where the sun beats down.I try to face mine North when I can unless in deep woods.Limbs or weeds waving in front of the camera can cause false triggers also.If you mount it on a flimsy tree and the wind moves the tree-same problem.Any time you check the camera, cut any new weeds that sprung up that might cause issues. Some cameras have a sensitivity adjustment and in some cases you may have to dial back on that.If yours is a basic model,it might not have it. Great pictures guys.I love seeing what others are coming up with on their cameras.I'll try to pick through mine and add a couple.
Biggie and Marty, if ya'll would ever grace the doorsteps of a church besides weddings every once in a while, you would meet people like hogdancer has here in Oxford that let him hunt free on their property here IN town and COLORADO. Then ya'll could give Barry and Gene a break one year. I would like to go with ya'll one year to Iowa or Kansas but I would like to hunt more than a 1 1/2 day like ya'll did last year in Iowa. Hogdancer is always go to see Big Red again again again...I'll change the date for you next time you post it
Something was on the lens of my Dads camera but some of the shots still turned out good. Can't wait!!

JimB, those pics are great pics!
Awsome pics JimB!!!! Here kitty,,kitty,kitty!!
I want some of that water! If that little cat can grow like that after drinking it. :biglaugh: Is that what they call a predator tank?
Not just predators. (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/jbrandenburg/MeadowTrough027.jpg)
JimB.
All I can say is WOW!!!
No fair taking pictures at the zoo! Man, you have everything coming in to that water trough!
The problem is,it's only a zoo when I'm not around. There are bears too. (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/jbrandenburg/MeadowTrough010.jpg)
Outstanding! What camera is that?
The bears really like to dunk in these tanks in hot weather. It has to give them a lot of relief. That water is cold. This is a big one. (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/jbrandenburg/MeadowTrough012-2.jpg)
Didja ever think about laying in the trough with a snorkle and then jumping up at the last second and scream? You know, just before he sticks his nose in the water.....
Gregg, that camera is a homemade one I bought off ****.It uses a Sony 4.1 MP Cyber-Shot camera in a camo-dipped Pelican case. They take some great pictures but weren't cheap and I have two that are on the blink right now and don't know how to get them fixed. Biggie, that's been suggested to me.I've tried everything else. It's really a tough place to hunt due to the swirling mountain winds.I don't see a lot of game there, just get a lot of pictures whem I'm gone.Of course I usually park my truck at the trough. Not sure if that has any affect. (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/jbrandenburg/TrailCamera006.jpg)
Biggie if you jumped out of there looking like you do in your avitar - you would not need your bow !!
:scared:
it would be enough to scare the faces off Mt Mckinley !!
no offense intended :)
great pics! thanks for sharing.
JimB--
Awesome array of pictures. And THEE very reason I think anyone who denounces trail cameras without trying them is just blowing smoke. They are such a window into the world of wildlife!! What diversity!
Thanks for sharing those.
Bryce
JimB Great Pictures! What do you put in the water to draw them in like that?
Wary Buck, that's a great point. If you spent time in this area, you would think there is almost no game there.Almost no one hunts it and it is public land. The cameras tell a different story.I get pictures from daylight till dark, very few after dark. The cameras don't help much as far as when to hunt but they do tell me what is around. This gives one the confidence to let the younger ones go and wait for something else. There weren't supposed to be any wolves in this area.I already knew there were occasinal ones passing through and the camera proved that.Beyond that I've learned a ton from them about animal behavior, combining the pictures with sign and animals that I observe, especially the bears.I've observed 5 pairs of cubs raised by the same old sow and as far as I can tell, all have the same daddy. And he's a brute but i haven't been able to lay a finger on him.I have enjoyed the cameras as much as the hunting and trapping.
StickBowManMI,it's just super dry out here and any water source is super important to all animals. They are also places were animals come to look for others, whether it be predators after prey or rutting animals looking for partners.A lot of lions I get pictures of,have their noses to the ground where deer and elk walk, rather than drinking out of the spring like I expected.
Here is a pair of those cubs.I've seen her raise 3 pairs this color. You ought to see these guys at 3 1/2 years old. (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/jbrandenburg/Trough8011.jpg)
AWESOME Pictures, Jim and great story.....post more, please....
WOW Jim B !!!!!
I just got a Moultrie I40 for my birthday this weekend...can't wait to get it out in the woods. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to get it up and running.
Hope to have some photos in three weeks or so, I live about 2 hours away from my hunting spot so I can't go all the time.
Josh
Oliverstacy, have fun with that camera.it is a great way to spend the off season.the trouble is,you can't have just one!
Ok Skyler W,this is another one of my favorites. (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/jbrandenburg/TroughJuly05033.jpg)

This gets me excited...can't wait to post some pictures of the spot I have in mind. It's a 1.5 acre swamp/bedding spot in the middle of a 95 acre corn field. I think it should be a good spot.
Looks like it takes some nice photos how do you like it so far?
Josh
hurry up and get out there.it is a good idea to clear any weeds, limbs or brush from in front of the camera. The wind can move these things and cause "false triggers".

Has anyone had problems with corn stalks moving around and setting them off. I'm going to have the camera set up about 3 yards inside the wooded part of the swamp but the corn movement might set the camera off.
Just a thought...nice pictures from everyone...I like the different animals it catches.
Josh
If you have much wind,it easily could. No harm in trying. You will know soon enough if you get too many false triggers.I plan on getting a few,no matter what.as long as it doesn't use up all your available memory,no big deal.in general, you want to avoid movement but some spots are hard to pass up.It used to be a real pain with the film cameras, getting a whole roll of film developed and having nothing on it.Have fun.
This is from my manual game camera (as in I point the camera and take the picture) in my backyard Saturday. Pears are falling.

a couple different bucks- taken with my moultrie.
Biggest bucks I've seen in my area in a looooong time. plus a short video I took yesterday morning of the buck facing away in the daylight pic.

I might add, the diversity of wildlife photos you or I may be getting, then put into a little photo album, can be a much-appreciated gift to the landowner. Even for those in the east, pics of 'possums, coons, coyotes, fawns, etc. can be very interesting to the folks that own the piece of ground.
great idea!
I like the camera, but I do need to trim the brush in front of it. It seems to take a lot of IR pictures during the day and I think that could be why along with the tree canopy. It has amazing color so that kind of stinks when it takes IR when it shouldn't. I really like it though. A lot of fun!

I just got my first one and put it out Monday on my parents farm...but it's 2 hours away so I won't be able to check it until this weekend at the earliest. Might be next weekend by the time I make it back that way.
I'm geek'd to say the least about what is on it.

Nice whitetails guys.Velvet should be off soon.
Pretty good one for south central MO. There is no ag in the area. Just oaks, cedars and rocks

Yes Jim the velvet is coming off fast. It's been fun getting the pics and seeing who was next.
Great pics Craig, I sure like the flash range on the cuddeback alot more than mine.

Finally got a camera and put it into action...first lesson...get all ground cover out of the way, especially items that like to move. Man I'm glad I only gave it a week.
I have around 380 photos of this long flowing grass in various states of movement. :knothead:
First animal picture was a yote in the darkness (darn weed even screwed this one up)

I moved it...good thing after I got home and saw how many photos it took of the grass blowing around and the corn growing. You have no idea how exciting it was to see 409 photos taken and yet how disappointing it was to only get around 13 animal shots. All in all I'm still excited, where I have it how is going to be great tucked just inside the woods on a known buck trail.
Josh
Great pics Josh, Yeah those darn weeds will get ya sometimes. One time I got 940 pics in one week on one camera only to find out 910 of them were of a spider making a web. :goldtooth: So I know the feeling.
Good luck !!
Tracy
Kenny...that doe looks real skinny for its age
Finally have something of my own to contribute...
This is a deer I passed up as a yearling, glad i did too. Here he is at 3 1/2 yrs. old....Now i just need some time in the woods, but it doesn't look real good right now for much....

Mrgreenhead...looks like the same as mine, Moultrie "I" series. Either the I40 or the I60, but it could be the Cabelas version that has a 5 MP camera and is camo.
I just bought a camo kit for my I40 off ***y for $8.50 shipped.
Josh
I40 by Moultrie
Biggie,
Looks like I need to come help you with those little deer. How do I get to your place again?
Now Greg,Josh, there you guys go again. Those bucks won't ever get big if we kill 'em now :-)
Really I don't think the bottom buck will get any better. He looks to be 4.5 anyway...cull buck maybe :-)

Wow Paul, that's a nice bear......looks like he knows it too.
David
He's a nice bear David. He beds down at the bait barrel (55 gal).Have one pic of him sleeping with another bear in the backround. Hope he's still around when I get back from elk hunting!I'd like to introduce him to a Tippet broadhead.
Good luck on the opener of deer season!
Paul
If you want Paul I'll check up on him while you are gone..... :bigsmyl:
Seriously, I hope to put an arrow through one in the next few days, we'll see...
Good luck to you too on your elk hunt.
David
Here is one of my Big Boys. Sorry for the blurry pics. I hunted him last year with no sightings during bow season. Hopefully that will change.

Nice to see a buck like this...don't see them often but nice to know there is one out there like it. Wish he would have looked at the camera for a look at his spread but I'm excited to see what I got.

JimB, I envy you on having such a big varity of game up in Montana. Going through the post I saw mule deer, elk, black bear, mountian lion, moose, wild turkey and a number of varmits. Down in south Louisiana the best we can do is black bear, whitetails, bobcat and coyote but you can only 2 of them have seasons that are at the same time, whitetails and bobcats or coyotes. Black bears have not open season. How many different animals can you hunt a one time?
Jim,,,great pic's  You are truly blessed to have such a great diversity of animals on the land you hunt.
Can not wait to see some hero pic's :campfire: :archer:
Chris,I'm blessed and cursed.I get a lot of great pictures but the animals visit so sporadically, and at such random hours, coupled with constantly shifting winds in the hills,it is hard to lay eyes on them when I'm actually there.this bear was there twice in 10 days, cleaned up the choke cherries and probably won't be back.I have a blast with the cameras though.I love seeing what is out there. Two days ago I set up my cuddeback at my wife's stand. I am only about a month behind schedule and Laura could not get out to hunt until today. We arrived at her stand a little late...around 4:30 and there were pictures on the cuddeback. We saw nothing tonight but when I got home with the card here is what was on it. He showed up this afternoon about 1:30 PM and hung around until 2ish. In the pic Laura's stand would be in the upper left hand corner so the deer is standing perfectly and looking the other way. I cropped the pic so he wouldn't get lost in the "big" picture. Now Laura is starting to act weird...can't wait to get back to her stand.

Always thought this bucks expression was funny!
Razor,
Is that a PVC feeder? How well does it work?
QuoteIs that a PVC feeder? How well does it work?
I've made PVC hog feeders by capping both ends of a 4' section of a 4" pipe and then drilling a bunch of holes in it just bigger than the corn. You put an eye bolt on one end and chain it to the ground laying down with an enough slack in the chain so the hogs can push it around and beat it up, as they do corn falls out. Works great and your corn lasts longer.
That looks like a good idea if the PVC works
Pastor Carl
That PVC works! I use for deer and Hogs. I will hang mine up for deer I leave it 4' off the ground. For hogs I will let it hang down and touch the ground with a little slack, the hogs push it just like they were rooting. they have nefer complained...

Love your pic's
That PVC feeder works pretty good but the coons can clean it out pretty quick. It was heated and pushed in toward the center at the bottom cap. This allows the corn to spill out.
Those are some great pic's fella's.

Very cool bear pix and the fawn too.....
Kevin, What kind of camera are you using? The color and quality are top notch!
Thanks. This particular camera is a homebrew utilizing a Sony P32 camera.
Nice picks. You do have a bear tag right.
Sure do have a bear tag. I'll be out there for the archery bear season and the firearms season it need be. :)
Bear season in Pa should be a good one this year. I've been scouting since June and there hasn't been a single ridge that I've been on that didn't have bear sign. :)
Not only do we have a few bears around, but we also have a few deer that the doe hunters somehow missed out on last year. :clapper:
Good luck when is bow season.
Thanks. Our archery bear season opens.....
BLACK BEAR (WMUs 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F, 2G, 3A, 4A, 4B and 4D) Bow and Arrow only: Nov. 19-20. Only 1 bear may be taken during the license year.
BLACK BEAR (Statewide Firearms): Nov. 24-26. Only 1 bear may be taken during the license year.
On such a short bow season how do you hunt them,Im not sure that you can bait so how do you do it.
Well my trail cam goes up this morning after work. Man I hate these midnights! I bought the moultrie I40 and got Basspro to match Walmarts price of 199.00 then got 10% off with their "local hero" sale. (Law enforcement and fire fighters)Hope I get some pics half as nice as these y'all have up!
Kevin that fawn picture is something special, all your pictures look great.
QuoteOriginally posted by longbowben:

We can't bait here in Pa. This will be the first year that I'm participating as I'm usually scouting and/or hunting whitetails in NY during that time. IIRC, this is our 3rd archery bear season in Pa, and I believe there were 70some bears harvested the first year. Not sure about last year. I think most folks setup near a major food source, like a cornfield or apple orchard.
As for me, I'll be going after the bear that was standing up on his hind legs. I've run into him 5 times this fall on a ridgetop that's loaded with cherry and acorns. There's also a cornfield at the bottom of it that won't be picked until spring. :D Seems like as good a spot as any. :)

Thanks Roy. Trail camming is just about as much fun as hunting. Aye? :)

Yes it is Kevin. I hunted the bear archery season last year in McKean County. Last year I think around 125 bears were taken in the archery season for bears.
Here's a buck from last year that I almost shot.....
And here he is this year in the same spot.....glad I didn't shoot him last year now...

Thanks for sharing guys....good stuff!
Finally getting in on the game. I set up my first trailcam last Sunday. It is on a huge creek crossing, gonna go in this Sunday and see what I have. I know there are at least 3 P+Y bucks in the area. I bought a StealthCam, hope it is a good one! Shawn
David, That's a great buck bud, hope you get him!!
Shawn, I guarantee you'll be buying more
While I got all you trail camera pros on here, is there any agreement on which camera to buy or not to buy?
Howdy folks, been MIA for most the year. Nice to see some familiar faces and some new tradgangers having fun with their trailcams! Tracy (K.S.Trapper)sends me pics now and then of his jumbo whitetails. Bet those grain fed toads are mighty tasty table fare!
Looks like I have some catching up to do. These are all from the north Cascades in Oregon.
This first pic is a big ole pot bellied Blacktail from last spring...

I thought this was a neat pic with a little spike buck and a spike bull hangin' together...

I think this bull was bugling back in June, just from his appearance...

Got alot of bear pics this summer...

Don't get many non-typical Blacktails, but this big buck was sprouting a drop tine on his right antler...

I'd be glad to help you out, but all I use are homebrews. BUT....I've had alot of bad reports on the new Moultries. I think if I was buying, I'd stay away from them.
There's been some great photos posted here in the last few days. I hope you folks get a crack at some of those critters. :)
I was hoping Ron would show up on here, He gets some of the best picks every year and these picks sure prove it.
Great picks Ron and glad to see you posting on here. I have a ton of picks I' ll send you some bud :)
Great picks guys and keep em coming
Tracy
Great pics, keep em coming.
I was really looking forward to checking my cams this week, but somehow one ended up in some kind of sleep mode or something. The other was just does and fawns mostly...
But I did get this guy.....
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/Trail%20cam%20pix/th_LTfunnel016.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/Trail%20cam%20pix/?action=view¤t=LTfunnel016.flv)
Opinion's will definitely very about different camera's so I will just say we are running eight 99$ Moultries(D-40's) and they are doing a great job. Half of them we got on sale for 69$.The battery's have lasted for sixty+ days and thats a bonus.
I would love to have some cuddie's but for now we are trying to cover as much territory as possible because we have many spot's to hunt and also if someone was to find one of are camera's we wouldn't be out a ton of money. I have heard from several friends that the I-60s are pretty touchy with there infra red but I have not used them.
They all have there good and bad point's Steve so good luck and I hope to see some of your picks when you get one. Good luck :goldtooth:
Tracy
I just retrievd my new camera, I have the same doe and two fawns on consecutive mornings at the same exact time, 8:30am four of the 6 days the camera was out. i am moving it tomorrow. I think the Moultries for the money are very good. i got a Stealth and it seams OK but does not trigger as quick as I would like. Shawn
here are some more from Tracy.

That last one is cool with the sunbeams. is that a mineral lick? If so what are the ingredients?
For you guys and gals that have a trail cam with video, do you leave it set to video all the time? Mine takes a still to show the date/time stamp at the beginning of the video so you know when it was taken. Seems to make sense to me to just leave it on video all the time. Any thoughts?
great thread, keep em coming

Tree Killer,
What's in that bare area "hole" that the deer seem so attracted to?
QuoteOriginally posted by Tom Anderson:

Tom...I put some trace mineral salt on the surface last spring. The animals have eaten a hole in the ground over time.
They really crave the minerals from about April thru August when the antlers are growing and the babies are nursing, but the desire tapers off after that.
Here's a few of the pics I got last week. The first two bucks I have pics of last summer, glad to see they have shown back up. The first buck almost appears to have eye injury, perhaps he's blind in the left eye?

Just got a pic of this haus the other day. My stand is directly behind him in the pine tree. About a ten yard shot. He was there the morning of the 15th and I was there on the 16th. *@#* Job anyway or I would have been there.I really need to hit the lotto so I don't miss opportunitys like this one. A day late. He'll be back.

Ron, get me close to that buck with the blind eye and I'll help him see his way into the after life with his good eye! :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Thanks guys. The winds wont let me back into this area until Mon. morning :bigsmyl:
Tree,
I'm goina have withdrawals for not getting an OR tag this year after seeing all your shots. Next year I intend to be in OR in November!
Treekiller - Thanks for taking the time to post all those pics, they are way too cool!!

Thanks Ryan
It almost looks as though the bear is saying "hey come on over here" and the cows are saying "hey you otta come on over here"
Pictures didn't turn out, so here's some vids. I'm surprised to see the buck with split G2's isn't much bigger than he was last year (see last year's trail cam thread for pics). Thanks.
Here are some from Coon007 and my lease in the Hill Country of TX:
This is Elkie, so named because of his tall rack.
So far he has gotten lucky twice, missed shot and missed opportunity.

What do you think this doe is looking for ;)
This is the biggest buck we have on the lease
(http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb88/gatorgar81/ICAM0005.jpg)
And this is the norm for the lease. There are, I think, 5 bucks that look like this one.
My cam is the Moultrie I40.
Same buck I think. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v42/keyman/trail%20cam%20and%20hunting/th_MDGC0025-1.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v42/keyman/trail%20cam%20and%20hunting/?action=view¤t=MDGC0025-1.flv)
Hunting has been slow this year for some reason. Have seen few deer but have plenty of pics of the half dozen or so that frequent our property. Last year we had pics of many different bucks during Nov/Dec. Then I checked my camera yesterday and it seems like the bucks are starting to move around somewhat. It also seems like the best time to hunt our place is going to be in the mornings (I am not a morning person...but it looks like that may have to change).

Yep Shawn you can.....with a permit that you pick up from F&G.

Dan, like the 1st pic with the tree rat in it. I watched a small buck play with a squirrel just the other day. He kept nosing the squirrels tail and the squirrel wasn't even scared.

This is a little different, but I did get it on my trail cam. After I cleaned this deer I shot, I tossed the head across my back fence. I usually do this to try to get a shot at the neighborhood coyotes. The head was probably 30 yds from my back door. I hung the camera on the fence, and got about 10 pics of this guy.

Charlie Lamb leaving me a few surprises on my trail camera during our latest hunt!
Hey, are those the (how to) stalking techniques of a jedi master hunter? LOL! 2 and 3 make me think of "FREEZE! he sees me!"

That must be the fabled MoMo :scared: we hear about here in Missouri. Related to bigfoot some way or another.

Great pics guys
Rick I have pics of coyotes, coons dogs and even house cats peeing in scraps, Oh yeah and my brother too. :knothead:
Curt that narrow buck is a warror, I watched him wup a 150+ buck in a fight last year and both sides of his rack were broken off clear down by the skull  He rolled the other buck after a long fight and the last time I saw him he was still chasing him up the hill. :D Very cool deer!!
Tracy
Tracy, I've had lots of those pics as well but this is the first time I've ever got one of anything taking a dump in one of the scrapes. I cracked up when I saw the pic because earlier that day I had taken a stick and flipped that turd out of there wondering what the heck left that care package.
