Today on the front page of our newspaper was an an article about a hunter in Knoxville arrested for selling doves which he legally harvested during the season. The article then went on to cite a federal law enacted back in the early part of the century which prohibits the sale of animal parts, mounts etc. While it wasn't clear if the sale of feathers falls under the fed law it was alarming since the penalty is up to 2 years in jail and substantial fine. This guy was convicted of a felony and can no longer hunt. He now has a record as a convicted felon. Any thoughts???

A lot of folks buying antlers better watch out. Are you sure it wasn't a sale for consumption law?

You can't kill ANY game animal in Ohio and then sell it privately for profit. At least, not that I'm aware of anyway. I believe that you are to hunt game only for private consumption or for donation to Hunters for the Hungry.
You can get a fur takers permit and sell the skins legally.

The article wasn't clear but the fed statute seemed to be very cut and dry... No parts! Maybe this was directed more to migratory birds. Now that I think of it I have seen painted turkey feathers for sale in shops and flea markets. Still confused> I'll peobably give Fish and Game a call on Monday.

Dove are federally managed migratory game bird I believe. Those laws may apply.

Migratory Bird Treaty Act prohibits the sale of migratory birds. Mourning doves are migratory and regulated by US Fish and Wildlife Service. There are a number of laws that arose from the days of market hunting.

I agree with what Steve Kendrot says . Here is WV they busted a guy that was selling off his realitives lifetime collection of turkey beards that were legally taken , he was selling them on E-@&y . Any part of an animal cannot be sold here.
