PICS! I wanna see pics and read stories on why ya love them Vintage bows and why ya shoot them :readit: . I am a sucker for vintage bows. But my lust for trying different customs is worse right now :saywhat: . I have a 65 Kodiak that needs a face lift. I had a couple of other older bears 58 Kodiak that BOWDOC made like new and a couple Hoyt's and a few Wing Slim lines and Howatts. Loved them all. They shoot sweet and are good in speed department.. So lets see them bows you vintage bow guys.<><
This 65-68 Bob Lee RW Hunter is my only trad bow..to date.. You've seen it before.
I got her for $35 at an "antique" store. Still had/has all original stickers, etc.
Thought I was buying a 'dink' for the kids.
Shot my first chipmunk and squirrel with her, and she follows me all over the country.

My favorite, a '65 K-Mag.

And you ask why??
Silly boy. :knothead:
Killdeer :p
That is a sweetheart of a bow killie. Who shot that group? Billy that is a very nice Lee curve. I have been looking for a bow I let slip by a few years back on the auction site. It was a darton SL classic ? been kicking myself since. For a lousy 5 bucks I let it go by! :knothead: :banghead: <><
I'm sure Killie shot that blindfolded and in the dark... ;)
I understand letting one go. Guy offered me something he called a 'plastic crooked bow' for $25 about 6 months before I restarted trad ... went back and ask him about it, he says 'oh,nope sold that one, some guy thought the medallion with the bear on it was too cool to pass up'....
:knothead:
if I were only this wise , yesterday....
I've shot Billy's bow....it's sweet!
Yep if I only had all the stuff from when I was 6 years old. My mon worked right next door to whiffen archery back in the 60s. That's where I learned to shoot with a my York curve bought from them. My two Uncles ans my cousin used to bunny hunt every weekend behind our house. Man I miss that. Great times and funny back then speed was not talked about much.LOL<><
Heres the holy grail, The 54 Kodiak 60" 46# with a Nimrod back quiver...All decals are intact and clean, compass is there but unfortunately the jew fell out from behind the needle. Shes a real shooter. Someday I would like to take a deer with it..

lOVE THE gROVES WISH I had Lefty! marco#78
Yep they are sweet bows. Wild colors and all.<><
These are two of my current fav's
(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q291/bjornweb/DSCN2380.jpg)
Both are 1960 Kodiaks; the longer one is 64" and 53#@28. The little one is 56" and 50@28. Both bows are whisper quiet and very smooth. The arrows are Sweetlands Forgewoods.
The longer bow was expertly refinished by Bowdoc.
I am still looking for a matching 60" bow.
WOW! Those are awesome. Them old Bears are some of the coolest looking bows. But them so were the Howatts.<><
Bjorn,
Those are some might FINE bows, Congrats

Oops, wanted to modify my spelling . Hit the quote instead :knothead:
Here is another pair of favorites of mine:
The longer recurve is a 1957 Kodiak Special 70" and 52#@28. Being such a long bow I never thought that I'd really hit the sweet spot on that one. But it has nothing to do with length-it has everything to do with design. The bow is a real shooter and super smooth.
The shorter bow is a 1958 Kodiak Special 62" and 50#@28. This bow is great in the woods. Short enough to maneuver in brush and long enough to shoot really comfortably and well.
(The extreme camera angle made the limbs a little cattywumpus y'all)
SWEET BOWS
Here's a vintage 64" 1959 Kodiak, 55#, with vintage Bear arrows, vintage quiver, sitting on a vintage bench.
That's SWEET  :archer:
Here's a few more of mine.................

I've got a few Bears and a 52" Pearson.only pic I've got is this Kodiak Hunter,45#,greenish glass, good shooter! Gave $50 for it in a trade 12 years ago. Think it had camo tape on it before I refinished it,really didn't need it tho...

Here's my vintage A handle in the Arctic.
Bob,what time of year was that? Looks colder in MO than the Artic!! LOL
Cool! Bryan is that a Musk Ox?
I thought I would bring this back to life for two reasons: first, the vintage bows have an elegance that is hard to describe, like an African sunset, or sunlight reflecting of the snow covered Alps, and second, I was trying to locate some photos of a Jack Howard Gamemaster. Anyone have any?
Can't help you with a Gamemaster.
Here's my current favorite - a 52# 1966 Browning Explorer.
Frank, I am on your same boat;love them all.I love the custom for the woods you can choose and for performances at your wished poundage, but the old bows for smoothness quiteness and romance.i think the old bows still performe good.

That one is pretty!
Don,I don't know how much you payed for that beauty, but you have made a great deal!Lenght and poundage are perfect for you too. This one is for sure one of the most remarkable Bear bows I have ever seen.
Thanks.........Felix. Actually, I got both bows for very reasonable prices. The "DeLuxe" came from the big auction price and was won with a "make offer" bid. The pictures that were posted of it left a lot to be desired, but it worked out for me in being able to get it for an unbelievable price.
I am extremely happy with both bows, their performance and beauty are unbelievable for their age.
