Title: WHA Ad in Fur Fish & Game magazine! We need e-mails sent.
Post by: Ted on August 03, 2006, 09:32:00 PM
. . . I almost vommited this weekend at ETAR.  I was doing my morning post-coffee thing at Dad's hunting camp outside of Coudersport PA while attending the Denton Hill shoot.  At any rate, I mentioned a copy of Fur Fish and Game on the toilet-side table . . . traditionally a good publication that I like flipping through. THEN IT HAPPENED . . . I dropped it on the floor and there staring back at me on the inside back cover was a full page WorldHunt ad.  I felt dirty.

I figure you are probably on top of this one Vermonster, but I wanted to pass it along in case nobody has seen the Fur Fish and Game ad.

I didn't know about that one yet. If you can get us an e-mail address we can start writing them. I have heard that promos are appearing on the Outdoor Channel now. I don't get it so we need folks on the look out for them that do.

My email to FFG -

I was extremely dismayed to learn that one of my most respected outdoor periodicals, Fur-Fish-Game, is supporting the WHA Worldhunt "game show".   Are you folks even aware of the money greedy insanity that David Farbman and associates are perpetrating on American hunters by turning hunting into a televised reality sport game for monetary rewards?

I am very displeased with the philosophy, proposed format, and goals of Worldhunt. This is a travesty created without thought for the serious damage it will cause hunting. I am a longtime bowhunter, and I've never seen anything more abominable or frightening in its potential for harm, than this event.

By accepting ad money from WHA, you good folks at FFG are peripherally sponsoring Worldhunt.

I strongly suggest you reconsider accepting ad money from a corporation that desecrates every value we Americans hold dear about hunting.

I will use every available resource at my disposal to prevent anyone from reaping profits from this Worldhunt nonsense, and I will encourage everyone I know to do the same. Consider the potential for long term harm this project has to the sport that drives YOUR business!

Please feel free to use my text to express your thoughts to FFG.

Send your email to BOTH of these FFG addresses:

I sent one to them when I got their August issue, basically said that if they were suportive of it then they could cancel my sub. They e-mailed me back and said they had just recently found out what WHA was about, and would not be running their ads anymore, they did however say that they run two months out and there would be an ad in the Sept. issue. I e-mailed them back and told them it would be good if they would print a disclaimer.

Excellent comment to FFG - curious to see if they'll do just that.

Guys keep your eyes open. These ads are sure to start popping up in other publications as the "event" date approaches.

Just received the following reply from FFG ...

Rob:

Thanks for sharing your concerns regarding the World Hunting Association.

When we initially accepted advertising from this company we were not familiar with their program. But after hearing from readers like you, we've chosen to refuse any future advertising from the WHA.

Due to our extensive production lead time we were unable to pull the WHA ad that appears in our September issue (already produced July 14th). But we can assure you that your concerns have been heard and acted upon.

I hope you will continue to enjoy FUR-FISH-GAME Magazine and thanks again for writing.

Best,

Eric Schweinhagen

Still in Sept. on page 30, as Eric already mentioned would happen. Didn't see any letters to the editor, or discalimers by FFG. Well see what happens in Oct.
