A week and a half ago, I received a bow that I purchased from a fellow Trad Gang member. It is a 58” 48# @ 27” Dale Dye Medicine Point recurve; named ‘Providence’ by the man I bought it from. It is a beautiful bow & a great shooter.
A few days after I got it, I took it to my weekly 3D league and shot my highest score to date. Today, after a hard luck season, I decided to take my new bow to the woods. This was going to be my last trip, before I pulled this stand. I thought it was in a good spot. I put it close to a trail that I discovered last year. After sitting in this stand at least 10 times, with only one deer sighting, I had about given up.
Today my luck was starting to change. Seven does came by my stand. I didn’t get a shot at the biggest one, but about an hour before dark, I connected on the second largest of the bunch. It was about a 20 yard shot and she was quartering away. At first I thought I had hit her too far back. But, fortunately I found her 85 yards from my stand, at a fence crossing, where the others had left her behind. I was pleased to see that the shot was better than I thought. It ended up taking out both lungs. Better to be lucky than good. She was a nice, fat 115# doe.
I was using a 2013 platinum plus Easton aluminum shaft & a 125 grain Muzzy Phantom. Total arrow weight, with fletching and wrap, is 456 grains. This Dye is a fast flight compatible bow, but I was shooting a B50 string, which I prefer.
My first trad deer kill. I never expected to be so excited about shooting a doe. I have ‘Providence’ to thank for the successful hunt today. She’s a keeper and has found her last owner. It’s funny how things happen when you least expect it.

Congrats on a very nice doe!

Good job Ryan! Are you noticing fewer deer this year? I know I am glad they took the urban and anterless seasons away in Christian county, we are about out of deer down here compared to five years ago.
-
Nice doe . Its a great feeling to take that first deer with a trad bow. A doe with a trad bow is a great trophy . They get harder to kill by the end of the season than the bucks around here.
-
Way to go! Nice way to end the season!

Thanks for the support guys. Kennym, we live in Fair Grove. It's about 25 minutes north of Springfield. SWP, I'm not very aggressive about nocking on doors for hunting permission, so I mostly hunt on our farm. We have never had many deer around here to begin with, and the deer numbers seem worse now. I have heard the same thing from most people in this area.
