Congrats, enjoy your time at the top Bryan.... :archer:
David
I did note the beautiful bow with the really beautiful buck.......bd
Have you guys noticed every buck I see him with is outstanding! He might have some Wensel in him.
yep , I was just looking at that fine buck :0)
Is that a Bear takedown? Nice deer!!!!!!
I would have passed on him. :biglaugh: I mean my arrow would have passed him I would have been shaking so bad. Congrats
G
Thats a "toad" for sure!
Very nice pic and a dang nice buck!!!!
Congrats Bryan, you done good with that big boy. Lets hear a story...preferably one about how you bagged that fella. :bigsmyl:
That is a nice buck. I'm going to buy a really nice mount with antlers that can be changed and get several different sets and pose with it a bunch of times. Then get my own tv show.Good plan, methinks. :campfire:
I appreciate the kind words guys.
GregD - I'm not half the man (literally) that the Wensel's are...in many ways :)
The bow is a vintage A handle Bear Custom Kodiak Takedown. When I purchased this bow a few years ago it had never been shot. Since then, it's been with me on hunting trips to Alaska, Arctic Circle, Saskatchewan and Ohio. The arrows are tamarack footed with purpleheart and I used a 145 grain Eclipse broadhead.
I actually shot this deer on the first morning of my 2006 vacation in Ohio. November 5th was a crisp morning and I first heard and spotted this deer approximately 300 yards away. Even from that distance, I could tell it was a fairly big bodied deer. As the deer walked closer, I could tell it was a pretty good buck. The deer continued to move closer and I thought it would walk down the other side of the drainage I was hunting. Needless to say, I was happy to see the buck cross the drainage and head towards my stand. The buck continued to get bigger as he closed the distance and when the arrow struck him at 20 yards it was all over. I was one tickled traditional bowhunter! After thanking the Lord for another beautiful whitetail, I got my hunting buddy Kevin Dill to help me with the photos and the dragging.
This was my first time I had ever sat in this stand. I had seen bucks "cheating" this edge the year before and we decided that we'd better get a stand up...glad we did. The buck had been in some pretty good fights and it looked like he was on the losing end. I just hope the winner is still running around for next year. I'll try to post some additional pics so you can see how bad he was beat up and I'll post a pic of my mount.

Fine deer and beautiful mount! Fun drag, huh?
Congrats on an outstanding whitetail. I love the mass. Thanks for sharing.
WOW great deer and mount. We got almost a year wait in Texas to get our mounts back.
Awesome Bryan, he does look like he got beat up pretty bad doesn't he? Looks like you have a few other bear bows hanging around in your collection too. Thanks for sharing, and good job!!!!!!
David
Great Deer, and I love the mount.
That is a kick butt whitetail and a really nice mount. I'll have to remember that. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Bryan. Why don't you post some pics of your big one?
Awesome buck Bryan. Thanks for sharing the story. Always like to see those old bows get used. Way too many of them are collecting dust. Got my nephews a couple of them last year. Boy are they getting the use out of them. The oldest is bound and determined to shoot a deer with his.
See you in Pittsburgh.
Greg
Awesome Buck  :notworthy:
Bryan, that is a super buck, congrats..
Darn good picture too.
PB
That`s one of those bucks that you go out to where its hanging just one more time before you go to bed, just to make sure it really happened.
You just gotta love the photo,...world class buck, with a vintage "A" handle, and a smile that says it all.
Many happy returns Bryan Burkhardt!
"post some pics of your big one"........yes, Bryan, do show us pic of the big one. Beautiful deer you got there and I am sure that alot of us would like to see some more pics! Thanks for sharing. Mike
I'll third that one, pics and stories of the big one!! dino
Bryan's my big buck hero and a great guy to boot. He kills more big bucks than anybody I know.

So this is one of the "little" fellers you culled out of the herd???
Now that's a big buck!! Awesome!
Jim Reynolds: Maybe we should show them the buck from the awesome "arrow" bow you made...
Greg, keep the old Bear bows strung! There are still a lot of dreams and adventures in those old bows. Looking forward seeing you again at PBS in Pittsburgh.
Bonebuster hit the nail on the head! I'm an average guy that loves to hunt whitetails. When you get a good one on the ground, you have to take one last look before you go to bed...pinching yourself and hoping it's not just another whitetail dream :)
Let me tell you about Mike Yancey. This guy from Arkansas somehow finds his way to the Northwest Territories. He pulls out this selfbow...first morning he is comes back to camp with this magnificent caribou!! Mike is my hero! Look at the Mike's antelope...I've come home from three antelope hunts empty handed and I'm going again next year...did I tell you that Mike is my hero?!
Okay, here is a little teaser...can't remember the full story but it was another first time in the stand...

Dang! Either you are about 4'6" tall or that is a monster deer! Nice shooting and way to go keeping those old Bears in the field though I see you broke out the fancy stick for this giant one.
Congratulations !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes it`s all I can do to keep from falling apart when I`m about to shoot a doe, a buck like either one of these would just pop my pump.
That is a truely outstanding deer! Congrats!!
Well, I know that is no Arrow Bow...I am looking forward to this!
What is that recurve you have there Bryan?
I need to e-mail you a few questions later.
NICE deer Bryan!! Any idea what the one in the second pic weighed?
Shaun - Fortunately, I'm 5'11" not 4'6". You did give me an idea though...maybe I should have Too Short pose with my next deer :)
Steve - The bow is limited edition (#5 of 5) Prarie Falcon takedown from Dick Robertson
Kenny - Not sure what it weighed but I can tell you that it collasped the spoked wheels on our deer cart. We know have the dually version.
Bryan-
always good to see those beautiful bucks! You're a true inspiration to all of us, thanks for sharing. And by the way...nice hat, almost didn't recognize you...the buck gave it away!
;) ---Donnie
What county in Ohio do you hunt?
Great bucks congrats.
Donnie - trapdoor? That's such a fitting handle for you buddy :)
Panzer II - Southeast of Toledo :) actually way Southeast...Jackson
Bryan, I hope some of your good fortune rubs off on Big Jim Reynolds. I hear that he is taking pointers from you on stuff like scent control so maybe it will pay off for him! ;)
Southeastern Ohio is very beautiful and I have hunted Jackson several times. Great Buck
Awesome buck looks like he has been doing some serious scrapping but if he was the loser the winner must have been something else.
2-Big: Jim Reynolds and scent control don't belong in the same sentence :)

I resemble that remark!
