Getting on the big metal bird tomorrow morning, heading south and east to hunt hogs with Ray Hammond and Tippit. It's got to be warmer than here, and I am ready to chase a few piggies- maybe even shoot a couple! Hoping Doc (Tippit) gets out with the weather in the north east, but it is looking like he will be OK.
Going to have other guy join us, Terry something or other. I think his last name is Green. Anyone ever hear of him? Wonder if he knows anything about hog hunting? :D
I think a good time will be had by all, and I am reallllllly looking forward to the hunt!
-
Mel, Best of luck to ya...I've hunted with Terry and Tippit,2 very fine fellas!! Hope to someday with Ray and yourself.....Hope you blood your new knife!!
Looking forward to the stories...

Don't let us down, with that group of guys there ought to be some good stories whether pigs die or not. But with that said I ain’t betting on the pigs! :readit: Have fun! :campfire: :archer:
-
whip ya beat me to it!!! :knothead:
-
Weather is coolin off....hogs ought to be bunched up...if they find em, they'll be draggin for days!
-
Yessir, the pigs are gonna be wadded up like a covey of quail in the early morning...if we get into them it will be a wild ride- snouts, elbows, feet, and black balls of furry fun scatterin' in all directions, and arrows sailin through the air, hopefully making a couple of em squeal!!!
Can you squeal like a pig, boy???
-
Irish,
Can you hit a piggy left handed??? I sure hope you guys get in to a sounder of them DAILY!!!!!
Vance, if Ray is there, they won't go hungry! LOL!!
-
Looking forward to sharing a camp with these 3 again.....its gonna be a blast no doubt.
See you guys tomorrow.
-
Brian, got a light weight set of loaner limbs I am going to shoot off one of my recurve risers. I dropped way down in weight and am able to shoot it righthanded. It will be enough with heavy arrows, and Ray has told me we will be close, real close!!
-
Glad to hear it!!
Go kill some pigs already! LOL!!
-
Sounds fun. Lookin' forward to some pig hunting next week myself. Hunting pigs is about as fun as it gets!
-
-
Mel you guys have fun, stay safe, hunt hard, shoot straight and track diligently.
-
And so WHAT HAPPEND :readit: :clapper: :clapper:
-
I jest talked to Terry and he's eatin SALAD...."SALAD!" Must have been some serious meat eatin to push him to the brink of eatin salad the first day back....
Hope to hear the whole story from the participants....but I'll bet they're still recovering. C'mon fellers....yer public awaits!
-
JC, you sure it wasn't his hat?
-
I'm going to let Jeff and Mel tell the tale..a great couple of guys for sure that I enjoyed spending time with - WE ATE, Iron Bull, WE ATE!!!!
Buffalo, bacon, beef, beef, seafood, beef...and it was VERY COLD for us southern boys..20's in the mornings and 20+MPH winds all day long really had the pigs hunkered down...
But we ATE!!!!!!
-
JC.....Salad is GOOD GRAZIN :scared:
-
we did have some fantastic jalapeno and cheese sausage stick made from buffalo. It would make you slap your mama it was so good!!!!!!!!!!
-
Ray, Don't give me that too cold and too windy! I hunted Ossabaw Island this weekend and was into pigs everyday, morning and evening. Even had some luck on my first Trad piggie - check out thread and photos on the TBG page:
http://tradgang.com//noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=34;t=000279
Might have been a touch warmer, but a lot windier on the coast. If a rookie like me fresh off knee surgery can do it, I think youse guys were just too busy eating! Bet you had fun anyhow. Steve

Just got unpacked, back to Cold New England from Cold South Carolina! How cold was it? Well when I left on thursday morning from Logan Airport in Boston, they had to de-ice the plane. Then they had to use 2 different tractors to try and push it out from the gate. When that didn't work...they De-Iced the plane from the tarmac. It was frozen solid to the ground!
So my trip to the warm south & hog huntin' had a very Cold Start! Little did I know that that wasn't going to be the end of it...Doc
-
We had a blast. Mel and Jeff both had........
Well, I don't want to give it away.......just ask Mel about the 7 dwarfs. :biglaugh:
-
There was Sleepy, Doc, Grumpy, Dopey, Bashful, Happy - never did see Sneezy......not one of group weighed more than 60 lbs, and I chased those 6 pigs around for 3 days. Finally got a shot at I think Grumpy. 18 yards, give or take, and just as I released.......lets just say Grumpy was not where I thought he was.....little buggers move quick! :banghead:

"Cosmic" Ray & I must have walked 10 miles the first day pushing the hardwoods, pines, blackberry brambles, etc. Saw plenty of sign but no hogs. We all corned the water along side the roads to try to bring them out. The next morning all the water was frozen over. Seems like pigs don't like to break ice to feed :)
The second night Ray & Terry set me up on a feeder. Ray said there would be 9 small pigs coming to it as soon as it went off. With in five minutes of it going off, a line of 9 pigs came trotting in. I'd set up off the feeder in the tree line 30 yards from the feeder & 15 yards from the feeding circle. Hunkered in my niffty seat all ready, I watched them all feed under it & on the far side. That lasted 5 minutes and then they were gone. The feeder was tilted away from me spreading corn to the other side. They never came to my side and 30 yards on 20-60# pigs was more then I was ready to shoot. I re-set the feeder and spread some corn near me hoping they'd come back. About 1/2 hour before dark the conga line of 9 returned to feed under the feeder again. Then 3 more little pigs joined in. They still didn't come to my side. The wind was right and they weren't spooked. I watched as they started leaving again...first the gang of 9, then down to 3-2-and finally one little pig under the feeder. I had paced off the distance to 30 yards so just before low light I took a shot. The arrow flight looked good but the pig ran off unharmed. Not having pig hunted before I sure had some learning to do, but Ray & Terry sure helped me break it all down. I had a great weekend...good old & new friends. Certainly more good food than the pigs eat :)
Mel, it was great to be huntin' with you again. Ray & Terry, thanks for showing a rookie pig hunter a few tricks for the next time....Doc

I'm down wid DAT!!! We shouldn't tell the florida panther story, should we?
-
LOL Ray, I read that and immediately heard it in a "Roy By God Mercer" accent.... :biglaugh:
-
Hey, Terry/Mel/Jeff
Should we tell ole Vance about the fire-grilled pork chops an inch and a half thick topped with blackberry ketchup????
Or the inch and a half thick buffalo burgers with Dales Sauce on em, grilled to perfection, served on sourdough rolls with all the fixin's?
Or how about that peppercorn crusted New York Strip steak we had, with the loaded stuffed baked potatoes?
-
Terry, did you have any close encounters with Spawn of Horsetail? I know you got real personal with the Bride of Horsetail on a previous trip!
-
Yes Ray.....we should tell him....and also about the slab bacon and the cheeze n Dale's scramble.
-
Tell them everything!!! Well, not everything.
-

-

AlexB, those are the baddest of the bad glasses, my man...if the hogs can't see your eyes they don't think they are in trouble...it's kind of like uncle barry wearin' his hat sideways..I need every advantage I can get!!
-
Bull,
The steaks were the 1st to GO!!!!!!!
But I did only have enough ground buff to make 1144 Quarter pound burgers. :D :D :D
-
No hogs but we did kill some pretty darn good meals :)
Those cosmic shades were also good to make sure your face camo was on! You could see yourself in almost 180%
-
Glad you guys had a good time. We were experiencing the same weather you guys were only a day before it got to you. The cold and the wind certainly slowed things down but we lucked into a few shot opportunities made good. We DID NOT have any great eatin though. Glad everyone had a great time. See you guys soon. CK
-

-
Jeff,
I nearly chopped off my finger that knife was so sharp today...boxing up some videos to send to one of the Gang!
Thanks again, friend. Really enjoyed you and Mel being here with us.
My wife called me at lunch Monday to say that you guys were the greatest house guests she had ever had- I asked her why and she replied " you won't believe it -they made their beds JUST LIKE I WOULD HAVE!!!!! So you are definitely on the short list for staying at our house in future!!!! :campfire: :campfire:

-
:scared: :campfire: :goldtooth:
-
Looks like "Gran Masta Ray" is ready for his new hip-hop album cuts..."Yo G, where my bow?"
And Ray, I wouldn't grab Vance with anything I didn't want gettin broke...he ain't real tall but that "soft-easy" life of a Wyoming ranch manager has taken it's toll...us desk jockeys are in much better shape....round is a shape right? :biglaugh:
-
Jeff,
what did you do to Ray Hammond, shoot him with Hog tranquilizer while he was napping? :D
-
Alex,
I was practicing my stalking skills to get that picture :)
-
Glad you guys had so much fun!! Ray, lookin' good
