Post by: Islandlongbow on January 01, 2007, 10:57:00 PM
Got an early morning hunt in an old cocnut plantation and came upon this hog opening coconuts....

I'd like to thank Frank, (Sticshooter), as he sent me this bow to use, ( I'm bowless  :knothead:   don't ask  :banghead:  ) and also thankyou to the fellow Tradganger that made this bow
I don't know his name but the maker of this bow is a man that knows his business! This a sweet shooting bow! Like it was custom made for me  :)

Thank you Gentlemen !

Jerry

I gotta ask Frank who made this bow...I think he said the man was from Utah but I'm not sure...

I was shooting some poc with 125 grain Ribtek BH.I ground hunt...love to stalk... The shot was about 18 yards through both lungs and about a 40 yard track.....it was my lucky day cuz as he ran he ran toward a coral road allowing me to drive within yards of him  :D

You can't really see it in the picture but this pig has a white stripe from the top of his head to the tip of his nose. His right ear is torn in half..most likely from an encounter with hunting dogs. He has a bunch of old battle scars....alot of character, he'd been around... so my buddy and I caped him out..he'll make a beautiful mount one day  :D

Don't Know Jerry. Been trying for a while but just cannot get a transfer. Hopefully when I make supervisor I will be sent to Hawaii for a couple of weeks of training. If so you can bet I will bring a bow with.

Thanks Nikko and Ray...Danny any time, just let me know. Chuck C maybe you can talk Sticshooter to come with you on a plane. I've been trying       no luck so far   :D   Otto   :bigsmyl:   that was funny! You don't know how many times I've done a great stalk only to find I sneaked up on a rock....LOL
Ryan  you know Homer?  He's a great guy and he's got the perfect job.
Frank there is a very good reason why my wife needs this trophy mounted on her living room wall....I just haven't figured out the reason yet...but I'm working on it.
Thanks again guys

Way to go Jerry! Nice to see you still keeping the Hog population in check. Wishing you the best in the New Year. Will probally make a trip back to the island in '07 or '08 depending on my Brother in law's deployment.

Yup Ryan, Dillingham Airfield is on my beat. Always make an excuse to talk to Homer to see how his trapping is going. He's helped me with pig trapping a bunch...been trying to get him to shoot his bow again.

Congrats but one question...just how does a hog open a coconut? (they are tough to open when you have 2 hands, 2 feet and a machete)

Hey Mickey....you know I'm not sure...I've only heard them cracking the nut with thier jaws.. they'll eat the rotting and fermenting nuts as well as the fresh ones. I believe they husk them like a dog does, pulling husk off one end while holding the nut with a foot but thats only a guess...the property owner also sell alot of mature cocnut trees to hotels , golf courses ect...the heavy equipment used to dig up the trees crushes the nuts that fall to the ground as they're run over...this atttacts the pigs, birds and mongoose too.
