After over 9 years of trying I finally got my bear at Cohuta Sat. Went farther in then I had gone before and found him on top eating acorns. Made a stalk and set up and he worked right to me. Shot him at 15yds, and absolutely pin wheeled him right in the crease of the shoulder with my BW, Beman MFX Classic and Muzzy 125 4bl. he did not go far. Took over 3 hours to get him out, but it was well worth it. E-mailed some pics to Rob to put up for me. Thanks, Mark

That's awesome Mark! I've seen quite a few bears in Cohutta, it certainly has a healthy population. Sounds like I got a few more years of seeing em before I can make it come together like you did, though....9 years, that's stickin to it for sure! Can't wait to see the pics.

Nice Job Mark.....I second what JC said about can't wait to see the pictures here...maybe one of these days you or JC could guide a "flatlander" like me on some North Ga. Bear Hunting!

Alright Mark. Way to go.

Congrats, can't wait to see the pics.

Wow! That is the way I want to kill my first bear with a bow, at eye level and spot/stalk. Congratulations. Can't wait for the photo.

That is awesome Mark! I can't wait to see the pics. This was my first year at Cohutta, and I was surprised at what I saw. There is bear sign pretty much everywhere you look. I noticed it high, and I noticed it low. I know you are excited to get results after all the hard work you put in, and I am sure it was all worth it! Maybe we will run into one another in the hills in the future. Good luck with the remainder of your season.

Good Job Mark, I've been in that country before and liked it alot, I like Georgia period, lots of good times on Horsecreek and spent a little time on the Paradise.

good for you, Mark...thats a true accomplishment in GA where no baiting is allowed for bear.
-
Good on ya Mark! That is an accomplihment. I don't really have an interest in shooting another black bear, UNLESS it is like that!
-
Congrats again Mark!!!

Way to go Mark! Like Neil, this was my first Cohutta trip. And not likely my last.

Great job Mark, nice bear. I live near the Tenn. side of the same Mountains you are hunting. Our side is the "Bear preserve" where we are not allowed to hunt them. Spot and stalk in those Mts. is pretty tough. I can only imagine the drag out. I'm sure you earned that bear.

Alex
PS: nice to see that no underwater root jumped and saved that bear!! :D

Dad gum it Mark, you are getting so dang ugly. Jeez, why did you have to go and pick on a bear for? I guess the antelope kinda put you in a bad mood or something.
Nice bear, and a great shot. You deserve it. Hope the rest of your season is just as good. Take care man, Anthony

Congrat, Mark. Now why the heck didn't you join TBG in the fog last week? One, you would have had lots of help dragging it out. Two, you could have pointed out to me what a bear looks like and had me shoot it! Nice shoot!
-

-

Mr Vic..
Georgia has a huge black bear population...state record is well over 500 lbs...in the Okefenokee is SE Georgia there are some real monsters as well.
Great Smokies have a very healthy population -in the springtime we usually end up with 50 or 100 coming out of the mountains and getting in back yards and garbage and stuff all over the Northern part of Atlanta metro area.
-
Congrats and awesome!!!
-
Great job on the bear, Mark!!!
-
Nice Pictures.
I drew a MI tag this year. (took me 4 years) I didn't have any luck last weekend but I have 3 more weekends to hunt. Do you know how much the bear weighed?

Mark,
You must have been very quiet stalking that bear, you even got him to lay down on a log, close his eyes, and fall asleep so you could get your picture taken with him. Dang your quiet......
