Title: arrow weight
Post by: finger lakes bowhunter on January 10, 2008, 08:07:00 AM
I am currently shooting a hoyt GM II at 50.  I can not get the bow back all the way so I guess I am pulling about 47 pounds. I shoot ACCs that are very light. I shot 2 does this year with them at 12 and 15 yards and both were complete pass throughs.  I never thought about changing arrows until I started reading up on correct weights on this site.  Am I using arrows that are too light?

I would't fret over it... sounds like they are doing what they are suppose to.

What do they weigh?

I am not sure but they say 3.39/440 on them.  I shoot 125 grain G5s.  Both deer that I shot only ran about 60 yards. 25 yards is currently the furthest I would shot at a deer, I shoot way further at grouse.

A 29", 3-39 ACC with 125 gr up front will weigh in around the 420 gr. mark. If you're getting pass throughs, I wouldn't change a thing.  They're obviously doing their job.

Congrats on two clean kills. The proof is in the "pudding" so to speak.

Close range, broadside shots are what we are after, regardless of arrow weight.

Trying new set-up`s is always fun, especially when you know you already have a combo that works.

Thanks for all the good info.  I really like the ACCs.  They fly amazingly with this set up and I need all the confidence I can get being new to the sport.
