Out of my around the handle bows, POC spined 70-75 # shoot well.
...now I hear that hardwoods need to be spined a bit more,
is that the case with Ramin ?
If yes, what spine would compare to 70-75 # POC ?
..and last,...I'm probably going to order 500 dowels from ATLAS, what variations in spine will I get ?
thanks in advance
Manny
in my opinion you should still be pretty close with the 70-75 as long as you bare shaft them first!! I shoot some that are spined 90-95 and they are heavy get a hold of larry at lost nation archery if you want to try a set of them before you buy all of those shafts!!!
you can probably expect the 500 shafts if 11/32" to be any where from 50-120lb spine Ive looked through a bos and got a wide range of spines!!
Rob, those 500 would be 3/8 dowels.
the majority will be 75-90. Some super stiff and some lighter spine. If you have a spine tester you can always "adjust" the heavy ones to what you need.
I find the spines comparable to cedar or other soft woods. Example... 80-85 cedar= 80-85 Ramin. I use mostly center shot recurves so it could be different.
Thanks Charlie, .....the majority 75-90, that would be great,I can surely deal with that :bigsmyl:
any other suppliers that you guys use, other than Atlas ?
American Woodcrafter Supply Company. I just bought 100 3/8" from them and the ones I've spine tested so far come in around the 80-90 pound mark. Here is their link.

North shore , i will only shoot Ramin from now on have been for over a year now .i don't try for a 11/32 shafts. draw about 53# from a 55# recurve just barrel taper them until they spine 85# then stick in elecric drill and sand until spine 64# they fly great from my bow some are between 5/16 and 11/32 .will get about 65 good shafts from 100 .i like heavy arrows so stick 190 + grain heads on them and they are amazing .
i shot in an indoor 3D shoot today in a basement concrete walls and floors .missed a lot more they the guys i shot with probably had 50% of the misses no broke arrows , and the rest had at least 10 broke arrows --- herb ramin for ever
Thanks Herb
