Title: Digital Camo??
Post by: FAIRCHASE on January 03, 2008, 08:38:00 AM
I would like to hear your opinion on digital camo for bowhunting whitetail deer. I know it works well as far as the human eye, but wildlife?
               Regards, Carl

I HAVEN'T HEARD ANY REPORTS FROM USERS BUT ONE WOULD THINK IT WOULD BE AS GOOD AS ANY IN BREAKING UP AN OUTLINE. JUST HOPE THE DEER DON'T GET INFRARED SCANNERS!

Looks like it works well in an 'urban' hunting situation......

Like any camo, it would depend on when and where you are. Being a light color, it should work well from treestands and I bought some of it for a western sagebrush country hunt, its perfect for there, especially the mil spec stuff with reinforced knees and elbows!

I prefer the old Vietnam tiger stripe camo, and the new USAF stuff looks a lot like that. I also like the USMC digital, more greens and browns, works better up here in the dark woods.

Digital camo is very effective and does come in different color sets.

I don't know about whitetail, but when I was working at my uncles game farm in SA, we had a client from the US that only used the Marine digicamo, and I was very impressed with the way it worked out there! I like the look of it!   :bigsmyl:

I bought the pattern in rain gear, but haven't had a chance to give it a good test yet.  Should work well in the aspen/birch woods of northern Wisconsin where I hunt, and in sage country as has already been pointed out.  My personal opinion is that most camo patterns are too dark.  I think the digital is probably light enough.  Wish the pattern were bigger though.

I think blotches of contrasting color work better or atleast color varation with vertical lines in it like tree bark.

I have looked at the digital in the store and it is still one color from 20 yards away I think.

Rob,  a little brush in front of ya and you'd have a pretty comfy ground blind! :)

I believe Mr. Paul Brunner uses
Rivers West rain gear in digital camo.  Spoke very highly of it.

I have some Army ACU's and I think it works great, but I am also a fan of the old Woodland camo too.  I think any open pattern camo works good.   Derrick

I have a good friend who is an Army surgeon who bragged so much on the new digital pattern that the Army wears, that I purchased some for myself. I really like the look of the camo and I am proud to support our troops. I Elk hunted in Colorado in it this past September and used it exclusivley during bow season for whitetails in Oct and Nov. Also hunted squirrels in Nov in Mississippi and it worked very well. It is an outstanding pattern, as far as blending in with any environment. Very versatile. Although, woods with late season BROWN coloring might be a weakness for it as it is a lighter green/grayish color. It is NOT A COLD WEATHER outfit by any means. Perfect for early fall and I would think turkey season. The velcro pockets are very loud and will make noise if you so much as touch a branch or tree with it. I switch to wool when it gets cold, but the Army digital camo will always have a place with me for early season hunting. A great supplier on-line for the authentic army gear is 1st army supply
 Good luck.
