I
I'm in the same boat. Our season ends feb. 5th
At least you saw bucks. Here in Nova Scotia unless you were drawn for an antlerless deer tag all you can shoot are bucks. I saw NONE, so no I did not get one either. Sucks to be us.
I did not, but I sure do love the game. That is why they call it hunting and not killing.
I didn't kill the big one even though he was 7 yards away. Does that count?
Counted coup on several does and saw some dinks as well as some bigguns while walking in to my stands.
I too struck out on deer. I did have one shot opprotunity, but she would not stand still. Spooky is what she was.LOL I was in the brush and she was 8 yards in front of me. It was like she knew I was there, but she could not place me. Could have shot the yearling with her, but he was no challenge. I did not see any bucks. I did get a javie and made what I thought was a good shot on a 300 lb Hog, but after running 400+ yards, we still could not find him and he was still going.
All I can say is "I had a shot, but the "Red Gods" decided to humble me. Perhaps next year.........Shick
I had three VERY close calls, one Doe and two bucks but they just would not cooperate with me! Oh well I still had a blast and there is always next year! LOL
A big donut here, too. Nothing but small game for me.
I had an awsome experience this year. Watched a really cool nontyp out of the corner of my eye rub a tree the size of my forearm until it was hour glass shaped. Ten yards, on the ground!! It just didn't work out. That was my only real incounter.
No kill for me...or for the twenty years before.
Had mucho fun though. Counting coup is more fun and a lot less work.
I had a nice, broadside 15 yard shot opportunity on a 5 point last week with my osage bow and let him walk. My flintlock filled the freezer and I couldn't think of a good reason to shoot him. I passed on a button head earlier in the year. I will be bowhunting public land the rest of the year (until Jan 31) and have a friend who needs some meat. I am not as selective on public land as I am on the private land I hunt.
Hello all,
My name is Brian....and I struck out this year....This is my first year shooting bows, and my first year hunting.
I am an addict, and I cant seem to find any shame. Guess its off to start scouting the woods for next year.
Brian
Me too!
I have nothing to say on the matter
Me too,
but I already have a plan for next year.
Regards, Bert. :banghead:  :biglaugh:
Yup!! I struck out as well. This was my 14th season hunting and still no bow kills for me. Maybe 2008 will be my year. Our season ended the 1st of January!!
this would be me! but have not given up
No venison in my freezer. I didn't spend nearly as much time in the woods as I would have liked.Still a fantastic season. Can't wait till next September.
Ed :archer:
another no-go boys. Not even in rifle season. On the plus side, my shootings getting better and im already scheduled for vacation early season bow this year.
I
I'm with you Jon, was a little selective early on and then missed a 150s at 12 steps from the ground. That has been my only shot at a deer this season. I am heading down to Siloam Springs on Friday morning for the UBI end of season hunt but there's usually not many deer killed at that, just a lot of talk about killing deer.
I'm in, but I am off work the 12th-16th, so I plan on hitting it hard. Hap
Our bow season ended Sunday. I can't say as I struck out. I did pass on several does and three bucks, one a fairly nice 8 point. Saw 5 more nice 8-points, and got close to three of them, and came oh so close on a beautiful 10-point, but no cigar/shots.
I started hunting big or at least mature bucks quite a few years ago. Since we're only allowed one buck on our archery tag, that means I have to pass up the smaller ones. It also means that I sometimes eat tag soup. But the challenge is in the hunt, not the killing. Holding out for a mature deer enables me to spend a lot more time in the woods, this year, to the last day. Despite the fact that I didn't kill a deer, this was one of the best deer seasons I've had. Of course, it didn't hurt that I already had a Wyoming elk in the freezer.

Do you pass up everything waiting for a giant buck? 14 seasons is a long dry spell.. :campfire:
I was probably to selective, I passed on about 5, but I do have deer meat in the freezer. I was given a gift, of a whole deer ! And another 80 acres in addition to the 47 I hunt now for next year.
God is good
Pastor Carl
I am this group too... aren't we all better for the experience 8^)
No meat for the freezer here, but I didn't miss any shots. The only good shot opportunity I had was three weeks ago at a big six pointer that came waltzing up the trail and caught me off guard at ten yards. I had just laid down my camera when he showed up.
The land I hunt was under 10-12 feet (yes, feet :scared: ) of water last July(Neosho River bottoms). Worst flooding since 1953. Really made an difference on the deer numbers.
Dennis
I plead the 5th! Lots of close encounters, and yes a few misses. I paid the price for not diligently practicing this year. My new years resolution is to hit the bales more so meat will hit the ground again.
I didnt get one either. The land I hunt is buck only, and I saw several, but only had one barely antlered dude with in range. Season is done here, but I have a lead on an apple orchard owner with nuisance permits....Im hopeful.
Well nothing with the bow, got a nice fat doe with the muzzleloader but so far nothing with the bow still have a couple of weeks left but things are slow here. After three and a half months of hunting season the deer are slightly nervous to say the least.
Add me to the list. It was a very frustrating season. The warm weather early on kept the deer in the open areas, not the woods where I hunt. I passed on a bunch of 1 1/2 year-olds and some fat doe fawns. I saw some nice bucks but never got a shot opportunity at them, so I kept passing on the small bucks. The only shot I had at a mature doe failed when my arrow hit the bottom of a pencil-thin limb I didn't see before the shot.
Our season ends on Thursday, but I won't have a chance to hunt again this week, so it's over for me.
Still, even though I came up empty, I wouldn't trade the time in the woods for a freezer full of meat.
Kept up the tradition of not even getting a shot! 8-) 21 years now, but who's counting.
Stuck out with the bow. Had a couple of shots at Does, but they had young fawns with them, so I let them pass. I tend to do that on Public land. I guess I think that will keep the population going or something..........
No deer this year.
ripped a big hole in my leg on a barbed wire fence-only blood drawn
I think I won this one, two trip's to Montana for a total of three weeks. Seen plenty, never got to arch my bow for a shot. Made a nice stalk on a 6x5 but to many eye's with him messed that up. Hunted at home in Michigan and again never arched the bow for a shot. Let one small doe pass and one button buck walked by at 5 yards pass. First time in ten years no venison in the freezer. I am not upset though, the reason I hunt is becuase I like to be where the animals are. Already looking forward to spring for Turkey's and may go to Tennesee for a hog hunt.
No deer for me this year. First year hunting Washington mulies mostly by spot-and-stalk. Had a lot of fun, saw a lot of game, but never got the shot I wanted.
Brett
I saw a fawn doe on my first hunt this year. I had 5 or 6 opportunities at her but she was too small and scrawny. On my last hunt of the year I had a fawn buck in range but passed. I try not to shoot small bucks. I hunted 4 weekends this year and that is all the deer I saw. Our club harvested 13 deer...mostly does and one good 18" 7point, probably 4 1/2 yo. Pat
i didnt get to use my new bow much, but i did take it 2x. nothing. but i did end up with 5 deer for the season. so im happy.
I shot underneath a nice buck this fall, got so excited I dropped my bow arm !!!! He'll live to an ripe old age :)
Terrible weather, trespassers, dogs, and an early miss makes this a no deer season for me. I could have shot a bunch of little bucks and really small does. oh well. I'm ready for next year.
Heck,
I screwed up n didnt even get a tag to try.
Saw deer, even with horns. There weren't any shot opportunities.
Can I count the one I hit in my patrol car... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
If not then I struck out.
I can see one thing,we are spoiled here in West by God Virginia. I have to give you guys credit for be able to enjoy the hunt, and some of you going for years with out a shot.Hang in there. :campfire:
Don't feel neked!! I will be having tag soup this year. Although I had my opportunities earlier in the season but passed on many small bucks and countless does. I hunted hard this past week and missed 2 does. But now season is over and the freezer is empty. Will have to fill it up with fish ice fishing I reckon.
I did have a great season though and don't feel bad about it. Lots of memories made while hunting.
Glad to see I am not the only one, starting to feel a little better...
Thanks all
jake
Still looking for my first kill after season 2.Had some chances but could not seal the deal. Some of the does around here have a phd in hunter education.Already plotting for next year.
J.W.
A swing and a miss here too! I totally blew the only shot I had on a doe. Man those does spook so easily.
I too haven't been able to get out that much, but I got out more than last year! I had a few chances at does, but did not take the shot, because the conditions were not right, or the angle was not good.
That said, I enjoyed every minute of it. The only reason I could see for having a "must kill" attitude, is if I must kill something in order to have anything to eat.
I am not bashing anyone for having a must kill attitude. Those who do are simply at a different stage in their life than I am. There will come a time...
An un-filled tag means every weekend of the season in the woods. Gee, I'm so upset..... :saywhat:
It was my first season with traditional gear. Had deer at ranges that the other bow could have tried, but I just don't care. The trad bug bit me hard, and I loved every minute of it.
Had more fun and nutty experiences doing this than ever before. Already looking forward to next year.
BobW
Me too. Only hunted 3 days, first two weekends of bow season and haven't been back due to work obligations. Did see the same doe with her twins both weekends.Passed on her both times at 10 yards.
Would have rather hunted all season and not gotten a deer.
Nothing here. But I agree with Hatchchaser, and I say that all the time- "That is why they call it hunting and not killing." If all I did was go out and kill something everytime it would get boring.
Saw 3 Bucks, and numerous Does, but none in range.
During the rut I watched a 3-1/2yr old Buck with a Doe that wasn't receptive to his advances, for over 30 mins in an open field about 60 yards from me.
I have learned more about Deer since I have gone Traditional. That's why I sold my pulley bow and am in the process of selling all my hunting guns.
I didn't kill one but I had a lot of fun. Anytime I'm able to get to the woods and enjoy nature, climb a tree, or shoot a bow, I feel like I've had a successful season.
I didn't get anything, but I have the excuse that I have been out of the country working for 7 months. I hope to give it hell this year and get out as much as possible.
All I ask for is opportunity"s and what I do when they come along is soley on me.
Well I was given ampel opp"s and I blew them not from lack of effort, just wasent meant to be.
I will stay the course and learn from my errors.
I saw 2 deer all season on my property here in Deeeeeeep East Texas. The first one I only saw thru the trees and the second I laid down with a rifle on Thanksgiving morning. I know I cheated but I wanted some venison for the freezer. Too much food for the deer down here. No one around here saw much the entire season. By the way...I hunted between 40-50 sittings this season. Talk about frustrating...
Not that I didn't have any shots, I just didn't cut hair. Nothing with my bows but I did fill the freezer.
No Deer for me this season, still haven't connected on one with the bow. At my parents place in Nova Scotia I saw 22 Deer (total sightings, some were repeat customers) in 8 days of hunting, of those were 9 bucks including 2 8 pointers. Shot opportunities were limited, I only really had 2 poor shot opportunities which I passed on. One of those would have been perfect, about 12 yards slightly quartering away but it was late evening and due to an overcast day a bit darker then normal. I couldn't pick a spot in the low light conditions so I passed.
Here in Ontario I only saw 8 deer through the whole season. One was a pretty nice 8 pointer by my standards but he came from the opposite Direction I was hoping the deer would travel and was shielded by a screen of bush I was using as background cover.
I traded adventure for table fare this year myself...Although I didn't harvest any venison this year, i had the richest and most fulfilling hunting experiences ever ....
The hunting was excellent carrying a light weight stick and string for the first time.
i enjoyed counting coop on elk a few times, but
I spent more time tinkering in my shop building trad gear than chasing blacktail this year ...
My first white tail hunt was the only serious deer hunting i did this year.....a humbling experience that gave insight to many things i always took for granted....
I have enjoyed being in the 10% that harvest 90% of the animals for many years, but this year was
by far my most enjoyable year hunting....
This was my first year for a trad gear also.
It was an amazing season, I spent all summer shooting and learning the bow and my shooting style and I'm still working on both. Summer ended with 3-D shoot with a bunch of trad gangers and an invite to a fall deer camp.
Fall, found me at a great deer camp and with several new friends. A great ground hunt that ended with me getting busted by a trailing doe at 10 yards. The reminder of the fall season found me hunting more than I ever had and enjoying the hunt more than ever.
The winter late season, I got another education by passing on a great shoot on a doe to try for a buck. I had a beautiful young 7pt at 8-10 yards but I was hunting a friends property and it's QDM. So I just enjoyed being that close to a great buck, and praying to see him next season.
I also joined a winter trad league, and I am having a blast, and looking forward to small game hunting.
I'm grateful for being part of the trad gang family and look forward to meeting more of you and flinging some arrows!
:archer:
no meat for me either.
I think last year and the year before are penance years for me.
the season before those,I shot 4 deer with my longbow. :)
Maybe the next season will be my buck year---I'm due ;)
this is my furst yr in19 yrs of bow hunting that i did not get one.i dont feel to bad i did not really put the time in. lot of things went on this yr, divirce, moved, had to put my dog down.this should be a better yr, im going to the blackwidow clinic cuz it just looks like alot of fun and i can always use a few pointers.got a new girl and just got a new hunting spot. im still a lucky man.
No deer here either. This was my first year in 13 years of shooting a bow that I have actually made an honest attempt. Don't have a place to hunt except public land, of which there is very little in Texas. Found a spot with some potential this year and finally got myself a pickup so I actually went out more than once. Learned alot about the place and plan to go scouting before next season. Maybe the odds will lean in my favor for once.
Guilty as charged.
First season in over 20 that I haven't taken a deer with my bow. I did have a great deer hunt in Alaska with my 17 year old son, a couple of good hunts in Indiana, and a few so so hunts in NY, passed on some good deer, saw some awesome deer (18 P&Y or better), killed a really nice grey ironwood limb that was magically placed in front of the vitals of a good P&Y buck, shot as close to the top of the back of a 2nd good P&Y buck as I could without touching him, and had my two boys put 4 deer in the freezer. So, fantastic year all around. I did kill a nice turkey with my recurve though.
I had a mixed year. It was my 9th year with a stick. I did shoot an elk, the first member of the deer family, in all those years of trying. I did count coup on a nice doe early in the deer season one week after my elk trip. The only other shot opportunity I had was during our late deer season and I blew that shot at 13 yards. The whitetails just get into my head. It just doesn't seem like it was successful without finally conquering my whitetail neurosis.

This is a topic that I can relate to. In fact, I registered just to add my $.02.
I've been messing around with bowhunting for about 27 years now (minus a couple for college) and have yet to fill an archery tag.
I just can't seem to get 'em to come in close. In the 27 years I have only had 6 shots. I have gone from compound to long bow, back to the compound and now I am making a long bow for next season. I have tried to quit and just fish, but I can't not bowhunt. It is a terrible mix of addiction and bad luck. I know that many people say that you "make" your own luck, but I've done an awful lot of "making" for the ammount of luck in my bucket...
I usually can laugh off my archery foibles as I savor the one I shoot with my muzzleloader, but this year nothing worked. And I had a hard time laughing it off.
I don't write this looking for sympathy, but to encourage my fellow strugglers. Only hunt for today, always look forward. Always hope. Never look back. Don't hunt to make up for lost time.
To quote Winston Churchill: "Never, never, never quit!"
Nope none here. It goes like that though for me. Last year I shot three and two went to the taxidermist. This year, I didn't have even one doe in range and passed a least 15 shots at small bucks.
Never took a shot ! Matter of fact, never had a shot opportunity (doe or buck) !!!! First time that's happened since 1964! Too hot in OCT, thought I'd wait untill Nov. Was sick almost all of Nov., including the Rut.
i have not got one this year yet but i will soon for sure. as i need some more deer meat.
I got a nice 4 point with my 2003 Dodge Mini Van does that count :D
I was so far behind in my chores after spending three weeks in Colorado and Wyoming for antelope and elk season I did not have time to hunt deer this year. I went out to my southern Iowa farm and scouted some in early November. I saw several good rubs along a nice scapeline and was itching to go but had too many irons in the fire to get back out and I did not even buy a tag. I see deer from my window in my woods nearly every day. I would just as soon see those old does and basket racked little bucks grow older and maybe try for them next year.
I didn't get anything this year, but I was only in the woods twice the entire hunting season. Work took up waaay too much time this year. What little time I did have to play, I spent most of it with the family. I don't regret that decision at all. There are many more years left to hunt, but my kids will only be little for bit longer. :)
too much work, not enough hunt....
Hang a Goose Egg by my name.
My first season with a bow (osage selfbow I made) and I had extreme amounts of fun.
Dennis (Arrownut at hickory creek arrows) took a look at my bow and was such a nice guy he didn't laugh out loud. I got busted and winded and then finally got to watch undetected. Finally got to a quarter-draw before the buck took off.
If I keep this up I'll get to miss a shot in a couple more years.
Ooops I meant Aeronut.
Sorry Dennis
This was my best season ever! After more than 40 years of chasing. Why, 'cause I got a new MLL longbow, got on these threads and learned the "how tos" and put it all to work. I hunted a specific deer on public land - I had him at 15 yards in thick brush. No shot. I also found a great little bedding area and caught a little eight going in one morning. I am on the ground and he got to 8 yards, but no shot.
Then the snows came and it was even better. All this is due to all of the members of these sites, their help and passions for hunting. Thank you.
Well I didn't kill a deer in two years. We had a big deer kill with the EHD sickness so I really didn't hunt too hard but I did want one to make some sasauge. I saw two does buck week and that was all. J.Michael
Zip here. First year in many that I haven't killed a deer or two or three.Work got in the way and the of the three shots I had- I clean missed 1 and branches jumped out on the other two-one about 9 feet off the ground. After that deer looked up at the thwack and walked off I almost fell out of the three chuckling.
Yes, I had a great season but next year no passes!
Passed up several small bucks, then missed a beaut at 12 yards when my moment of truth came. Would have made quite a story, as he was standing in the same spot where I shot my first and only book WT (picture to left) in 2005. Looks like he made it through the shotgun season, so hopefully I'll get another chance in '08!
I could have shot a lot of deer but they are just too cute!!
If you believe that, then pm me for a great deal on some lake front property
final score deer 10 me 0
Goose egg here also. No acorns, few sightings, no shots. Thinking of next year already!!
None here (for me) - too darned many acorns. Deer didn't have to move or look around. Squirrels were carrying them to 'em on heaping trays, a leprachaun told me. Didn't see enough Deer to spit at, and only got one shot op at legal ones - missed that one. I really am pretty dog-goned happy when I just see Deer every now, and then and this was my worst year ever, I think. Next year will be better - is it time yet???
"Finally got to a quarter-draw before the buck took off.
If I keep this up I'll get to miss a shot in a couple more years." ~va
Too funny! :biglaugh:
Life got in the way, I think time is speeding up some how.I only got to go a few time seen deer but no shots.
I couldn't even pull my bow...can't pull it yet.
Was on chemotherapy from April until October then had gut surgery first week of December.
When you can't do something, you obsess on it all the more...I'm gonna be ready for spring turkeys!!!
Just wasn't my year either. I was in a car crash in late Aug and broke my left foot and right heel. Had surgery on my right heel a week later and was on a long rode to recovery. Around mid Oct. I was able to shoot again from a chair and by the last week I felt like I just had to at least get into the woods. I was getting around fairly good with crutches and went to my fathers property where I knew i would only have to go about 40 yards downhill to get on the downwind side of some trails. With my bow strapped to my backpack down I went. Boy what a challenge. As I sat on a treeseat my father had placed for me and about an hour before dark I had my first encounter. Although it was not a legal buck in PA I couldn't have felt more alive. What a rush to have this small buck at 10 yds. crossing right in front of me. I never did release an arrow in 3 more trips to this location but I didn't need to.
Two close calls, still hunting and spot and stalking. Both stories posted. No shots taken.
Still after 'em in Meade Co. Nothing yet.
DR
I had a huge 12 point with droptines at 15 yards for over an hour and could not get a shot, still haunted by the site of him. Had opportunities at does but wanted the 12 so let them pass. The 12 is still alive so hopefully next time. Zippo on the whitetails this year, but I can always hope to get a Sambar in the jungle here on Guam season runs till the end of March.
Danny
I have only had 3 deer in bow range this year. And my daughter was the one hunting (with a muzzleloader) She couldn't get the saftey off ufortunatly. So no archery deer so far for me. Ohio has a few more weeks though. Our new neighbors are constantly out hunting driving trucks and ATV's all over the place. I think they have salt blocks and feeders too. So when gun season came I took out my shotgun. Paid off with my biggest buck ever. I would have rathered it been with a selfbow but I figure myself very fortunate to kill a buck of this caliber.
I have not shot one as well. I do until the first weekend in Feb. but I have been moving out of my house for the last three weeks and will finally have that job finished this weekend so I am hoping to get back out there.
I have missed two does earlier this season, have not seen a buck that I would like to shot yet.
No deer. I'm still trying to tag my first deer. I have an annoying habit of shooting over their backs.

I know what your problem is. If you would like some help, send me a pm.
I passed on some does and fawns in October and a small buck in November during the rut and I've been shut out ever since. Hope to get out this weekend and next week before the season goes out here in Illinois
last year = 2 squirrels and a good time.
Hoping for a deer this year.....
Saw them. Had them close. Just no shots were presented. Drives a guy nuts.
I never loosed an arrow this season...
Haven't drawn on a deer in 3 years.
I had one shot opportunity, which did not end well. The doe made a goofy twisting jump at the moment I released, and it resulted in a bad hit and a lost animal. Maybe I'll get one with trad gear in the 2012-2013 season.
None for me this past year...
I had to resort to killing a 1 1/2 y/o basket rack 8 point, but at least I got my backstrap and sausage!

I struck out this year. Saw deer each time I hunted, but never close enough to take a shot, though I would have with non-trad. No regrets about that - I only regret not having had more time to try.
I got skunked this year too, would've had deer piled up if I had used a gun but where's the fun in that?
Not I. I didn't even get in the woods ONCE. It was a sad sad year. Hopefully this year I can work something out
Had very few deer in bow range last fall, and the one opportunity I had for a shot was on a doe that busted me when I started my draw.
No shots 2010 or 2011. Plan on making up for it in 2012. Shoulders on the mend and its raining in June. Can't get better than that.
Didn't take any shots early on. Saw a nice 8 point and hunted him all rut and didn't get a shot. Passed up a small 6 point late in year. Didn't get a good shot at any does. Not complaining at all. That's how I roll.
No luck here either... Didn't even see one! Tough year. Pressure is increasing on public land n CT.
No shot's last season, maybe this coming season! Looking forward to it!
Jason
Did not even draw a tag!
I had 1 shot at the buck of a lifetime.
Yep. Right over his back.
Saw no deer , took no shot. Track soup is mighty thin!
Only had one opportunity and I did not shoot
A long and distinguished list to which I will add my name. I'll also say that I had a lot of fun not doing it!
Add my name to the list.
Don't know how I missed this one. Add me to the list, in fact I haven't killed a deer in 8 years. Phew, that feels good to get that off my chest.
-Jeremy :coffee:
No shots again this year. I haven't killed a deer with my bow since 1997. Hardly saw much at all this season and getting worse each year.
didnt have a good year either didnt see much, bucks didn't have three points to a side or they were 40 yards or farther and didn't see mant does close enough for a shot.... Cant wait until this year
Im in california nuff said.
I normally miss two a year
But this year nothing in range
This year I had both my sons hunting with me for the first time. We all had some action. We all had shots at rabbits and squirrels. I took my first shots at deer with my long bow after hunting with it for year. This was one of my best hunting years to date... eventhough I missed everything I shot at.
I killed a lot of air this year but no deer
   Yep I'm praying for a better year next year. I just go to the freezer and cry when I look at that unusual empty space.
Tag soup for me as well...
Not sure where the deer went last season but it seemed that where I hunt folks just weren't seeing many deer.
Me.
Me too again . No shots at all only one almost shot on opening day
Ron
i didnt even get a shot off with the gun
I didn't but was in the stand with my son all year.He killed 3 does and a 8 point
Haven't killed one in 5 years. :(
Saw one fine buck, no shot. Thats it for my archery season.
Tag soup for me too. Saw a few but didn't have nay within range. Got a new spot this year though and am very optimistic.

I passed on numerous chances. I have not seen a mature buck in a while now, two seasons. I have passed on the does, because I simply do not believe the DNR when thy say the population is still high in my area. I know how frequently I used to see deer, and it just has not been the same for the last several years, at least out on my place. I saw few small bucks and relatively few does, but lots of coyotes. Also, numerous fawn carcasses left by the coyotes.
big 0 hear thats all i got to say about that.
Had alot of fun though
I messed up a tendon in my elbow last September trimming a tree, just a couple weeks before deer season. Unbelievable! Started shooting again in late February of this year. I went down in poundage and wear my elbow brace whenever I shoot now. Maybe this year!
