Title: How to tie on a nocking point......
Post by: ShootStraight on March 08, 2006, 04:52:00 PM
Okay, I guess I am going pure traditional and am going to tie on my nocking point! I have made plenty of strings, put on center servings and all but can't seem to get this down. I seem to get it to tight and then it won't "thread" up and down, but may not be using the correct procedure, string material, ect. Anyone got a pictorial or advice?

Thanks

The only kind of tied on nock that will "thread" up and down is one that is tied on with knots.  Tie a knot on one side, then the other and continue. Finish with a double knot.

Personally, I like a served nock.  First I take a piece of the colored nylon center serving and heavily wax it with beeswax.  Then I wrap it over itself a few times like I'm starting a serving.  Stop wrapping over the serving, lay down a loop of string material and continue wrapping over that a few times. Insert the end of your serving into the loop you just wrapped over, pull the loop back under the serving which will bring the end with it.  Now pull the ends tight.  Keep the serving tight as you wrap it.  Excess beeswax will be squeezed out and can be rubbed off.  This nock is not movable, but it holds tight and doesn't use any knots or glue.  Use a piece of tape for a nocking point until you find the nock height you need.

I think this is the link to the "threadable" nocking point:

Some waxed B50 works pretty good as well.  The waxing really helps keep the knots tight.
