Title: Can I mix B-50 and B-500?
Post by: cajuntec on January 06, 2008, 09:00:00 PM
I know B-50 is Brownell, and B-500 is BCY, but they are both Dacron, so they should be compatible with each other to make a bowstring, right?  Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have several colors in B-500 that I like, and I just noticed that I can get B-50 in another color that would go well with one of my B-500 colors... so I was thinking of getting a spool of it... but didn't want to mess something up if the two aren't compatible for some reason.
All the best,
Glenn

They are the same base material (dacron/polyester), but processed by different companies.  You can probably get away with mixing them, but I prefer not to.  One may have a little more stretch than the other, the diameters may be a tad different, etc. which will make you wind up with a lumpy string.

Thanks for the replies.

Chad,
I'm actually cracking up laughing, because I was trying to avoid calling you for something like this, as I didn't want to bother you, but you were the first person I thought of speaking to when I came up with this... and then you come along and reply anyway.  Thanks man!  Guess I'm sticking with the B-500.  I need to call you anyway.  I'll probably give you a shout later this week.
All the best,
Glenn
