alright week 1 is gona and past. We had a great turnout of 60 people. Hope we don't drop a single person, even though I know we wiil. Here is week 2 nothing really has changed since week 1.
Guys, if you didn't sign up don't just post your target. There was a sign up that ran Nov. through middle of Dec. and another 2 weeks after that was a list of people to make sure I didn't miss anyone. When you just post your target for the hell of it you make it really hard to find and score the peoples targets who signed up. Not to mention me having to locate your name on the list..only to find out it's not there. If you want in wait till the next one. Sorry I have to be this way, but dang it that's the way it is
• Alright this is week 2 of a 5 week series. The rules below are the final rules, and if you need any clarification please PM me. If your question is something I left out of the rules I will modify them. I will post any modifications in bold.
• You may shoot your first target using 5 arrows. Post your target with your screen name (the one you signed up with) and your score WRITTEN ON THE TARGEt. All targets are to be posted by 12:00 Noon Sunday, Jan 13, 2008.
1. Any bow longbow or recurve – No Sights what so ever.
2. No arrow restrictions....carbon, wood, aluminum, cane....etc...are OK
3. A cut line gets rounded up
4. An "X" is a 12 everything else is as marked
5. Targets must be turned in by Sunday 12:00 PM (Noon)
6. You cannot shoot all 5 targets in one week and turn them in one at a time or all at one time
7. You may practice/warm up before shooting your target
8. If more then 5 arrow holes appear in your target your weeks target will be a zero, or you will be asked to reshoot that week.
9. Targets will be shot at a distance of 15 yards or 45 feet
10. Everyone will shoot this Target no exceptions
http://www.uspalma.com/Targets/PDFs/200%20reduced%20for%20100.pdf
11. WRITE YOUR SCREEN NAME AND SCORE SOMEWHERE ON THE TARGET. Other information such as bow and arrow combo is OK as long name and score are there as well....Make them readable.
12. No whining, bitching, moaning, groaning, or complaining.
13. You may use a visual aid on your target. Such as an orange dot covering the X. As long as it does not obscure the line for scoring.
• We will be using this target so that everyone can print it. It will print on regular paper(8.5X11).
http://www.uspalma.com/Targets/PDFs/200%20reduced%20for%20100.pdf
• Best you can get is a 60 (5 arrow * 12 points = 60)
• All times I refer too are in CST/CDST
Ah,Love number 12.
...like Jacky Gleason use to say, "and a waaayy we go!"
Hey Snag if we combine scores we could POSSIBLY beat Jenkins. Either that or get'em loose and put him in the wall. :jumper:
The guy is tough! I'm even shooting his string and I can't keep up! lol
Dang Rod, these fellas aint cuttin you no slack at all are they!!
Jeff...nah their rough on an old guy :D
With several guys shooting great scores...I can only try and keep up in the weeks ahead.
Here's week two. I have a tendency to shoot high on my first shot or shots this close in. :knothead: Hopefully this little tournament will help. Joe (http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg177/Joe-Mart/DSCF1917.jpg)
Just envious of his shooting. Someone has to raise the bar so the rest of use can try and pull ourselves up by it!

My biggest problem shooting is concentration or focus. Now there are plenty of other problems, but this little shoot has me really trying to focus on each shot.
Thanks Jeff for setting this up. I'm really enjoying it.
WHOOOOOWEEEEEE ya'll's bringing the heat in week 2....better go shoot my target.
I went down in score this week....oh well...I know what my problem is just have to hit the butt now and work it out.

Week 2...this week I shot my Wes Wallace Mentor 50# with 1916 Easton Legacy arrows.

Hey guys, I don't no about others, but I feel that I may be shooting a little over my head. It may be the rush of the competition. Hope it keeps up.
I missed last week.... I try and get time to shoot tomorrow
Tomahawk this week. Next week? (http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg175/aldean_photos/target2.jpg)

Dang!! that post about the orange dot is funny!!!!!! Laughed out loud here in the office!!
Man I wish I would have signed up to play!!!
Good Shootin' X2!!!
you know those times when your form is rock solid and your concentration is so high you could shoot the wings off a horse fly at 20yrds?
well today was not one of them :) 50 the hard way, same bow and arrow set up, DAS 46lbs at 28" axis 500's

Hey, did anyone tell X2 this wasn't a benchrest competition with his 30-06? This here's trad bows! I'm not going to win anything, but El Cheapo the homemade longbow put all in the kill zone again (and that's saying a lot on our little deer!). Some dang fine shooting guys...hope I don't see you in the next 3D tourney. And just to be a PITA, ks_stickbow, "tourny" is spelled "tourney"!! :knothead:

I'll change it when we see out first 60 :knothead: :knothead: :goldtooth:
You mean I cant use my 30-06 :biglaugh: I have been shooting another tourney, so I have been shooting a lot lately. Been getting pretty good groups at 20 yards.

Well, stickbow. Some bum "done" shot a 60...guess now you have to spell "tourney" correctly! LOL!
Notice Rod is so neat that he didn't even mess up the line.
Way to go Rod. Any suggestions for us on how to get closer to the X?
OUTSTANDING ROD!!!!!
OK OK now I'll go and fix my spelling, but just in the tittle.
Benbow... ks.stickbow and I have been swapping PM's on maybe including some form tips with each weeks thread ???
Man i didnt know you could fit 5 arrows in that little circle.
Nice shooting Rod.
OK i thought i reconized that name. I just recived one of your cases with my new ACS.
Also nice
Form tips would be good
Jeff, I think you should make a new rule, that Rod and X2 HAVE to shoot all five arrows without pulling them. That way while the rest of us are working on our form and focus....they could be doing something...like repairing arrows
Jeff & Rod, Tips on form would be greatly appreciated. Joe
GREATLY Appreciated :help: :archer:
Great Shooting X2 and Rod. Form tips would be neat.I usually warm a round or two on a used target. Then I put a new target and go for it. My first two weeks scores have been above what I usually get when practicing. I hope its because I focus more under pressure, but it could be just luck!!

Great shooting all...
Great shooting Rod. I hope to hit a 60 before this is all over. As for tips, I know this has been said a million times, but you just have to do everything the same every time. I always have a shoot routine that I use for each arrow.
1.Establish stance (shoulder toward the target, feet shoulder with apart, back foot slightly back).
2.Nock arrow, grasp string in the first groove.
3.Focus on target
4.Inhale slowly and exhale slowly
5.Inhale while drawing to anchor, with natural pause on inhale, use a three point anchor middle finger corner of the mouth, cock feather on the tip of the nose, and thumb tucked behind the jawbone.
6.Pause at anchor, increase back tension while focusing on the target, and let the release happen.
7.Hold focus and bow arm on the target until the arrow hits.
8.Exhale, relax, and prepare for the next shot.
Always make every shot count (shoot it like it was the only shot)
When practicing I don't shoot a lot of groups I only shoot one arrow at a time and go get it.
Once you have established your form, you can concentrate on repeating it each and every time. It is all about consistency.
Enjoy the shot
Rod I wanna see the buildalong for the "one shaft, with 5 heads" arrow. Thats what it's gonna take fer me. :notworthy:

That's a good reminder X2. I get a good shot in there and then I tend to hurry up a bit for the next one. Must think it will be just as good and can't wait to see it! Usually I am disappointed with the results. Thanks for this reminder. David

When I do exactly what X2 says (right down to "Enjoy the shot"), the arrow goes where I want. When I don't, the result is a 33. 'Nuff said, IMO. Thanks!
X2 - Very good post!!
Well described actions and easy to follow!!
I will try that tonight. Especially # 6!
I printed off some targets, even though I did not sign up in the tourny, I will play along at home and pretend.
Great Shooting guys.
I took my new found knowledge from X2 to the range at lunch. Thanks again! It really helped. Especially the breathing and being deliberate in the steps. I felt much more grounded and steady. Now I will have to see if I can put 5 good ones together!
