I bet a bunch of us "GangTwangers will be at the PBS biennial gathering in Pittsburgh the last week in March.
So who of us will be in attendance? I will be traveling about 4000 miles to get there and have over a DOZEN take offs and landings to get there!
I will be doing an "Exotic Destinations" seminar with Rick "RicMic" McGowan and some other southerner named Monty. My segement will be on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai.
So, who is going?
Would've liked to go to this one. Family and many old friends not far from Pittsburgh. Just can't justify the $1500 +/- right now. :banghead:
I'm in.........
Me too.
You wouldnt happen to have the exact date and time would you?Thank the Lord I'm only 35mi from downtown Pitt!Is it at the convention center?
Yep, me too.
I'll be there, would'nt miss it.
T
I'll be there.
great Steve...seems like that's the only place I see you anymore ;-(
Man oh man I wish, told Karen she could pick AK, (kids there) or HI, (cousin there) this year so just can't justify flying to PA too. I know y'all will have a blast.... :(
What the heck, I might go.
Jimbob, it is at the Radisson Green Tree hotel between downtown and the airport. March 27-30, 2008. Hope you can make it. For more info, see the PBS website at: bowsite.com/pbs/ and click on Banquet Info or Gatherings or something like that.
Thanks Kevin.Never been but it sure sounds like a good time.
Do you have to be a member to attend?
I'm still planning on it.Me thinks it will be costly though.. :campfire:
I'd like to go being I'm only 1.5hrs from the Burg. Do you have to be a member? What are the dates?
I will be there. Looking foward to seeing old friends and making new ones.
Jack
Karen and I will be there.
Greg
Steve,
Hope to see you at the PBS banquet! It has been a while.
Monte Dunaway
The wife and I will be there...looking forward to it.
Hey Monte! Long time, man!
Jimbob and Leatherneck, no, you do not have to be a member. But we wish you would consider joining! The banquet/gathering is open to all members and guests. For more information, including ticket information, times, prices, seminar line up, speakers, other activities, etc. please go to the "Trad Events" on Tradgang and click on PBS Banquet. Or, you can email me at bahrnone@insightbb.com
Yep, the wife and I will be there. We have only been to seven other PBS banquets, but this sounds like it may be the best one ever. The others were great, and a lot of people worked hard to put them on, but this one may be a bench mark to meet!
Only 82 days, but who is counting!
Goose
My wife and I will be there. Hope to meet some of you 'gangers...............Shick
I'll be the one with a camo shirt on... :campfire:
Unfortunately it is too far from Utah, maybe next time?
Steve, does this mean you're not moving to Idaho???
My wife said we could go, as long as she got to see a hockey game. The penguins play that Sunday, and tickets are available.
So.
I need to deliver an airplane to Texas sometime this spring, and while there will hunts pigs, and can write the whole trip off as business, thus allowing me to go to the banquet.
Gotta love it when plans fall into place like buttered toast on the floor.
I'll be there. Just look for the Brad Pitt look-a-like and that will be me.
I'm in for my first PBS convention and really looking forward to it.
After watching the thread about donations that are being received I'm getting a little concerned about how much this venture might end up costing though! :scared:
Lots of great stuff being collected to tempt me...
My wife and I are in; have only missed two in all these years - if you've never been you owe it to yourself to go.
Everyone bring yer money to bid on the autographed copy of "Hunting with the Bow and Arrow" !!
Kevin, maybe we should have a poll for number on banquets attended? I know a few back there wasn't many who had been to all of them. Anybody other than me thats been to all of them?
Me and a few of my crew will be there. Looking forward to seeing many of you.
I've made my reservation!
Kevin, thanks for the info.
I have my reservations, room and a ride!! Guess I'm set. :campfire:
I won't be able to make it, just can't do a plane ticket etc. to go. I know you will all have a great time.
Nathan
Dang it, Nate. Try hitchin a ride with someone or something! Great to see all of you others are coming. I know there's a few more that frequent the Tradgang that haven't chimed in yet.
Bryan, howdy!
Mike, you're welcome. Hope you can join us!
I'll be there with the wife. See you there. Jeff and Becky.
Myself and my brothers along with Gene and Barry will be there. Stop by and say hi. None of us look like Brad Pitt. :>)
"None of us look like Brad Pitt."
Yes, but none of you will force pink house on us, assaulting our senses either!
I'll be there, wouldn't dare miss the one Gathering in my hometown. It will be the first time I'll actually have enough money in the bank to bid on auction items - hope nobody else is interested in that BC bear hunt!
Down in San Antonio, we had a Tradgang lunch at the Saloon, if I remember correctly. Wonder if we can organize a Tradgang breakfast or lunch this time?
I'll be there. I have not missed a banquet yet.
John V.
What are you thinking Jeff? Big sandwiches at Primanti Brothers down in the Strip for some local flavor?
That is one of my favorites, Forester, or we could shock 'em with some O fries and dogs (Original hotdog shop) in beautiful Oakland, on Pitt's campus. Or maybe something down at Station square in full view of the Point. Lots of options in Pittsburgh.
"O" the memories...maybe we shouldn't go there :) ....Station Square could be a good option.
How about the Strip District? What goes on down there?
"strip district", sounds interesting!
Strip mall perhaps???
Not really a mall, but not what Rick is thinking of either...it's a market district downtown with fresh goods during the day and several eateries. There are a few night spots and clubs but I can't speak to the entertainment venues. Primanti Brothers is one of the restaurants down on the Strip, if you want fries with your sandwich you will likely find them on the sandwich...It's a good thing.
Did someone say eateries?
Eateries in or near the strip district.....
Italian- Lidias
Seafood--Rolands or Steel Head Grill
Yuppy---Sonoma Grill
German food-- Penn Brewery, Bottom of Troy Hill
These come recommended by my sister who drives by them every day
HA! I thought that would get your attention, Jack!
Food always gets my attention. :biglaugh:
I better start getting in shape.
Jack
Well Jeff, since it's your hometown and all, and you came up with idea, I vote to put you in charge :readit:
Just tell us where and when to show up - I think it's a great idea.
i will be attending. this will be my first banquet. i recently joined the PBS as an associate member. i know i don't know you guys but i'm looking forward to meeting you all. i have had the privledge of having Monty and Mark Baker stay at my house for a weekend to speak at a dinner my church has every year. i'm really looking forward to seeing them if they are able to make it. making some new friends is going to be awsome! i live about 50 miles north of the 'burgh and already scheduled vacation days for thursday and friday lol see ya there!
Welcome Brad! Yes, Monty and Mark will both be there. Better brace yourself, you might have a lot more friends after that weekend is over.
Heck, if we knew you lived so close, we could have had it at your place!
Glad you are coming!
Unfortunately will not be able to attend :^( To many things happened last year, moving, new job, getting married. I am planning ahead for the next one though. I will not be caught off guard again! Jack, have fun at Hooters and eat some wings for me! Joseph
Joseph, we will miss you. I hope the move, job and marriage are all good things. Congratulations! Looking forward to seeing you at the next one if not in-between. Happy New Year to you.
I almost forgot about the Penn Brewery. Jack could be a very happy guy....
We bumpkins in the midwest pile our fries on the side of the plate...not on top of the sandwhich. I didn't realize that I've been doing it wrong all this time!
Joseph do you mean I have to eat all those wings and drink all that beer all by myself. I don't know if I am up to that. :help:
Hooters and Penn Brewery wow this could be a heavenly trip. ;)
Jack
When we were in Pittsburgh for the Council meeting last March, we ate one night at a large church that was converted into a brewery/restaurant. Really good food there! Can't think of the name of it...do you know of it, Duane?
My wife and I also ate lunch one day at the Walnut Street Grill. Good grub and drinks there as well.
A bunch of us went to a Brazialian steakhouse in SLC and it was awesome. I love those places and not a vegetarian in sight! But, I thnk that was the night (Thurs?) that we have the BBQ in P-burgh.
Every two years it just breaks my heart that I can't make this work. I'm a head track coach and we always have a meet that weekend and it's usually the first big meet of the season (wouldn't look too good for the hard-butt coach to miss a meet now would it?).
This year, I found a different meet that first week that was on a Thursday so we got our schedule changed. But this year's PBS is opposite our second weekend of the track season and another Sat. meet. Darn.
I just keep thinking...9 1/2 more years, 9 1/2 more years....until early retirement. :)
Man, Bryce, call in sick or something!
Steve, yes, the BBQ is on Thursday and from the numbers I'm seeing, it is going over way better than I had hoped. There will also be entertainment: Roger Rutz, Mark Baker and Allen Tennis, not to mention some possible "audience participation"...
not to mention some possible "audience participation"...
Hide the beer!
I have reservations, but I'll probably go anyway. :saywhat: :campfire:
I always thought we should have "open bar" before the auctions... maybe not.
Kevin, I think an "open something" caused Don Thomas to acquire yet another Robertson recurve in the auction. I can't remember what he paid. I don't think he can either.
I think Kevin already knows about the open bar before the auction....and it was a win-win for everyone :)
I just made arrangements. Looks like I'll be there. First one for me.
Good for you Orion! You are going to have a blast!
I just have to meet Dirty Bill, he sounds like a real hoot.
Goose
Your first one, Jerry? WELCOME!
Make sure you check that "first timer" spot on your ticket order form so you can get in on the drawing for the free room!
I'll be there. I made my reservations last year the same day I found out what the dates would be.
Nate, sorry to hear that you won't be able to make it.
Steve H., well we could always go out for lunch at some meat only place.
See you all at the BBQ!
Larry
Hey Kevin, on that audience participation thing, did you know that Stevo was the lead singer for ANTHRAX! I kid you not, all the chinese recognised him and wanted a photo with him!
Regarding a Tradgang lunch, how about meeting at Primanti Brothers in the Strip District at 12:30 pm on Saturday? There is a gap in scheduled events from noon to 1:30 (except for the youth lunch) and this place is only 15 minutes from the Radisson Hotel. This way Mr. Vargo can experience Pittsburgh's best sandwiches (fries on the sandwhich, not on the side) and check out downtown Pittsburgh...
http://www.primantibros.com/
Also, the next PBS magazine will have an article with info about several local pheasant shooting preserves, for those who want to bring their bows and test their wingshooting skills. Several buddies and I are trying this on friday morning at Mt. Hope Game Preserve - the whole place will be reserved for bowhunters only that day. You can PM me for more information.
I'm just not too sure about putting fries on top of a sandwich...that just ain't right!
"Best food easten with fingers and thumbs" according to the website. I think I could do that - sounds like my kind of place!
I'm in.
What? Steve has anthrax? I knew something was wrong...
Jeff: Friday? You're going to miss a bunch of great seminars! You oughtta do it on thursday and work up an appetite for the BBQ...
Speaking of the BBQ, I spoke with an older fella from God's Country (that's Wisconsin for all of you football challenged folks) and he did not buy a ticket for the BBQ, I guess he thought it was included in the Half Draw package that he did buy. NOT SO! If you want to come to the BBQ, make sure you get a ticket for that, it is going to be some great fun and great food! I didn't know it was going to be as popular as it is turning out to be according to reservations made so far, but I'm really glad it is.
REMINDER: There is going to be a PBS Turkey Calling contest this year at the banquet. It will be on Saturday afternoon, immmediately following Joey Buchanan's Bowhunting for Turkeys, A-Z seminar.
You don't have to be an expert to get in the contest. We NEED contestants! Sign up and try your skill, or in my case: luck.
Well, just got done paying my first Assoc. Member dues so I guess that makes me a member. :readit:
Now if I can get a kitchen pass, and thumbs up from work to attend the Pittsburg convention. :campfire:
Hopefully I get to see ya'll there. Tim
I just don't know, I'm still dispointed about the strip MALL thing :^O
hey i'm having trouble finding people to come w/ me to these dinners. :( if i have to come alone, would anyone mind giving me a seat at their table and let me hang out w/ them? :)
PA, they are big round banquet tables, 10 or 12 persons. I usually just grab an empty seat, its a great way of meeting new folks. Thats the great thing about PBS, everyone will treat you like a family member, actually better than a family member in some cases!
70 days and counting!
Goose

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now that there is funny! True, but still funny, LOL!
PA stickbow boy, in my case, it's better to just grab an empty seat as the guys I know, WON'T let me sit by them, HA!
sounds great. that's one of the reasons that i love hunting traditionally.
i'll be the one in camoflauge w/ paint all over my face :biglaugh:
see you all there
Brad, at the PBS Banquet in 2004 down in San Antonio, TX there was a guy there in camo sweat pants and a tee shirt at the Saturday night dinner. While it would have been nice to clean up a little, it was no problem. That's all he said he could afford after paying to get there so that's what he wore. It was that important for him to come and he did it. That's dedication!
ttt
Looks as though I'm making the trip from Fla. It's been awhile since my last one and it's time to get re aquainted with some folks.
DonD we are looking forward to seeing you there!
Rick, I'm beginning to get pumped about going. I think I'm going to bring an empty bow tube just in case a longbow or something follows me home.
DonD
I just received an email Ryan Furrer of PA will be there. He's an ex-national champion compound shooter who is coming to PBS to check out the traditional stuff. OH-OH... he might be a good shot. :^) bw
DonD, everytime I fly into these I seem to win or buy something big, if I drive NADA, so I'm flying this time and will suffer the consequences. BUT the best thing imo about the banquet is seeing all those guys that I only see there. Like Uncle Barry for instance!

Dang,my family absolutely hates me....I hoped things would be different at the banquet. :knothead: :campfire:
I hear ya Rick. Made some great , lifelong friends at the banquets before. Hoping to add to this list.
So many people to meet, so much fun to have...and it's only 9 weeks away!
Oh, sorry Kevin. Don't worry you still have 9 more weeks, plenty of time to get it all done :D
I'm finally in. Just joined, got airline tickets, and sharing a room with Whip (Joe Lasch). I'm as excited as when I set up a hunt...Doc
Just booked my airfare for my wife and I, looking forward to it, We will be coming with Joebuck and his wife. I am getting ready for the auction, looking to pick up a hunting trip somewhere.
I'm driving in with Bill Kissner and his SIL. I have a room, but could use a roommate. There's room for one more in the car, too.
Hey Rick, I know Mark V and Steve H are looking for roomies, or were. My bro Chris may be also, but you better bring some earplugs...
You'll have to email them to make sure.
Hey Kevin, thanks for the heads up. I'll chase them down. Meanwhile, work on Ellis; he needs to go, too. :smileystooges:

Just over a month to go now! We still have tickets and rooms available, but don't wait too long. We gonna have some fun!
Is the lunch adventure "officially" scheduled for Saturday? Meet as soon as the Instinctive Shooting Seminar is done and be out the door by 12:15? Or meet earlier so that we are back for the Turkey Hunting Seminar? The Membership Meeting is at 7:30 that morning so we may be ready for lunch early?
The schedule has been added to the PBS web along with a few other items if that helps with planning for lunch. PBS Gathering (http://www.bowsite2.com/pbs/gathering12.cfm)
Is it to late to sign up? I would really like to go, and being relatively new to traditional I would like to meet up with like minded people from this site. My wheelie friends just don't get it yet. I am hoping to meet people who have learned it is more about the hunt then the actual numbers killed . Seems like my wheelie buddies are more concerned about quantity over quality.
BANNOCK-.PT,
I understand tickets for the banquets are still available, but the rooms at the hotel are going fast! Just go to the PBS web site for the phone numbers. Also, take a look at the donations page and see what is going to be available for the auctions! You won't believe the hunts, bows and other stuff. And I'm sure there will be a lot more by banquet time.
Hope to see you there!
Goose
Is anyone still looking for a roomate for Friday/Sat night?
shoot me a email if you are.
thanks, brian
brianroness@yahoo.com
Hi Dennis. Steve is right, tickets are still available. Welcome! Come up and introduce yourself when you get to the Radisson Green Tree...
You will have a good time, I can assure you. And a finer bunch of bowhunters you'll never meet.
Go to the PBS website to print a ticket order form or call the PBS office and we'll get you all set up. And you can bring your "wheelie buddies" with you. They'll have a great time as well.
This sounds like it will be a great time. I will be trying to recruit a couple of my friends for the show today. I will be signing up later today with or without them. So, if I cannot recruit any of them today then I may need a roomate if all the rooms are booked. Look forward to meeting everyone at the show.
See Brian Roness' post a couple posts before these: looks like you might have a roomie in waiting if you don't get anyone else to come with you. Or, you can triple up.
That's what PBS is all about, making new bowhunting friends and sharing some good times and swapping stories, etc.
Looking forward to meeting a bunch of new friends in Pittsburgh!
Kevin, I have a question about the tickets. I need to wait till payday (Feb 27th) to send my money in w/ the ticket order form. If I mail it on the Thursday the 28th do you think it will be recieved by the March 1st due date. I hope that will be ok. Thanks.
Brad from PA
PA stickbow boy,
I think you will be O.K. The office is letting registrations come in through the following week or until they have reached capacity. Send it as soon as you can but you should be good.
Tickets are going fast. The BBQ has REALLY taken off...we might have to go to B.Y.O.Pig...
I'll get the check in the mail the 28th... I'm taking vacation all 3 days so I'm planning on the BBQ and Friday and Saturday dinners.
Great! Looking forward to meeting you Brad.
Anyone want to carpool from Allentown let drop me a pm...
32 days and a wake up...
I found a room,
thanks guys
Good to hear, Kojac. You gotta be careful around this crowd though, LOL!
I'll be there, my first PBS convention, looking forward to it!
Todd Brickel
Colorado Springs, CO
It's great to know that Trad Gang will be well represented at the PBS Gathering. I know PBS will be happy getting us all together. And the two dozen vendors will enjoy a good crowd as well. They added a vendor list to the web page.
See all of you in Pittsburgh!
It is gonna be a blast! my wife & kids had a good time in SLC.
I am sad to say they won't be coming to Pittsburg. My kids had an absolute blast @ YPBS (youth PBS).
If there is any way you can bring your kids Do It!!! there will be activities for them.
There is some thing special in the works for them in 2009, I will let a committee member spill the beans on it though.... Kevin?
see you all there!!!
Glad to hear you are coming, Richard! YOU have some "bean spilling" to do, but not til the banquet! Keep us guessing...
Yes, we need some more kids! And some more turkey callers!
I just saw an update on numbers...outstanding! I hope I don't forget anything...!
Check out the PBS website to see a newly posted list of vendors coming to set up at the banquet!
Speaking of PBS banquet vendors, I just checked out Ed Wentzler's website, Lost Arts Trade Company. Really cool stuff ya got there, Ed!
Ed is a Master craftsman...plus he's a cool guy :-)
I have a box call he made oh, 15 years ago...a functional work of art
Just received an updated room list from the hotel. We are gonna have one big crowd of bowhunters! Now, THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!
I am really looking forward to my 1st PBS
banquet, will be there friday afternoon into sunday.Looking forward to meetin some of you
gents !!
Wow, Tom! Coming all the way from PERU...now THAT'S impressive! See you there!
We have now added a slide show presentation that will be shown while we are eating the evening banquet meals. The photos that will be included have all been contributed by PBS members across the country so it looks to be fun and entertaining! Thanks to PBS member Terry Receveur for stepping up and volunteering to oversee this great idea!
I am just finishing this bow for donation at the banquet. It is a 66" LH longbow that is 56# @ 28". The riser is Bocote and Wenge and the limbs are Maple and Zebrawood.
Ken
(http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/KenEj/KenEJkriser.jpg)
Well for a variety of reasons I'm not going to make it:-( Was really looking forward to seeing everyone but I guess I'll have to be there in spirit only. Dang.
That's not good news, Don. I was looking forward to meeting you! Hope you can sneak away and show up anyway.
Ken, thanks for the beautiful donation! We will most certainly put it to good use!
Thanks Kevin,As they say, family first. I do want to hear all the stories though when y'all get back .
I'm starting to wonder...
Did Joey Buchanan's article in TBM scare off any potential challengers in the PBS Turkey Calling Contest?
I bet there might be SOMEONE out there to give him some competition...
Make sure you sign up for the contest if you are coming to the banquet. We have some great prizes for the winners! Besides, it will be fun and that's what this is really all about.
I've heard Joey call turkeys before. Goes like this...
"yelp, yelp, yelp, y-all!"
"yelp, yelp, yelp, y-all!"
Turn yella on Joey B??? Nahh If anything I would have entered just to give him someone to whip.
I am going to get smoked! Pa is turkey country. There is some ole boys laying low KB, trust me. i might have to wear my Gobbler costume for style points. JohnnyV is right, i'm trying to shorten up my ya---lp. i wish i could bring my 5 year old son..he has the prettist little hen yelp with his natural voice...of coarse I just swell up when he does it
If you can get Joey into the right rythm, he'll break out into the Ole Miss fight song.....
"Hotty Toddy ,gosh almighty yada yada yada.....Ole Miss we ain't worth a dam"........Biggie and Marty are going to enter as a couple team event.Biggie works the pot call while Marty whispers on the cell phone.
Well, by all indications from another thread on Tradgang, maybe we should change the turkey calling contest to a Double Bull "erecting" contest... We could have time trials and everything!
PBS in Pittsburgh, Who's going?
It looks like everyone will be there! The PBS site just posted that the Friday and Saturday Dinners are sold out. I think you can still get in on the BBQ and day activities, raffles and such, but the evening dinners are maxed out.
That's a lot of good people in one place!
TTT
Kevin,
I'm really getting pumped for the banquet...thanks for all of the hard work!
Bryan
I hope everyone that wanted to come made their reservations...we be SOLD OUT for both Friday and Saturday evening dinners.
Hey Bryan! Email me a pic of you with your deer would you? Of course a story to go with it in the magazine would be nice also...
See you next week!
Only a couple more days and we all meet in Pittsburgh. Feeling any pressure, Kevin?????
Tradgangers, don't forget to go to Primani Brothers in the downtown Strip District at 12:30 pm on Saturday for a Pittsburgh-style lunch. We can enjoy some good food and drink, and connect some names and faces from this site. If I can get a head count of those planning to attend, I will call ahead and try to get a room or at least some tables reserved for the group.
http://www.primantibrothers.com/
Jeff,
Connor and I are game for lunch Saturday. Will you be at the BBQ Thursday evening? We should arrive about 5 Thursday.
I love BBQ and wish I could try some Thursday night, but it looks like I won't arrive in Pittsburgh until very late that day, and I'll be shooting at pheasants early on Friday morning.
It is FINALLY here - I'm headed to Pittsburgh tonight! Looking forward to seeing some Tradgangers this weekend.
Is it possible to attend the gathering on last minute notice or was pre-registration required? I realize the dinners are full but didn't know if attending the rest was possible or worth it without the evening event.
Thanks,
Chris
