I traded for a Cold Mountain longbow and need some info. Does anyone know what the brace heigth range should be. I e-mailed the bowyer but didn't get a responce on the bow being fastflight comparable so trying to get info from him seems a waste of time. Thanks, Don

I've never heard of the bow but as long as the tips are well made it should be fine. You should pad the loops with dacron. I hope that the bowyer doesn't see what you said about "trying to get info from him seems a waste of time..." It would tick me off a bit if I was him...

Never heard of a bow by that name, but when in doubt, always use dacron. With a modern reflex-deflex longbow, I would try 6 to 6 1/2 inches for a brace height and see how it sounds.
Cold Mountain Longbows are made by Mr. Bill Stroute of Dallas, NC(Forgive me if I mispelled his last name.). He is a great bowyer who also makes some great port oxford cedar arrows. I just bought a set of arrows from him for my Treadway bow. He might be one of the best arrow builders in this part of the country.
Bob, I would think a good bowyer would at least answer his e-mail within a couple of weeks. If a bowyer got ticked off because someone was bothering him with questions other than wanting to spend money, it would not bother me in the least if he got "ticked off". The gentleman may be an upstanding person and there may be reasons he has not contacted me.If this is the case, I would personally apologize to him on this forum and in person. At this time, I can only state the facts as they stand. I was not trying to flame him or "tick" him, or anyone else, off in anyway. I was just stating the fact of no responce, and it seems to me, that further atempts to make contact may be a waste of time. not a problem...I just know that there's usually a good reason when things like this happen. It sounds like you and the bowyer are good people. Recommendations for brace height are just that so you might just start at 6 1/2" and work your way up from there. I brace most of my longbows at 6 1/2" because I low a low BH...most guys brace higher, especially if they use dacron, which I do not. The bow will let you know what it likes.
