Good luck to you chris, I'm guessing your hunting in Texas because the season is over in Arizona,I,ve hunted in Arizona for the last  20 years, and love it. Best animal in the world to hunt with a bow, keep the wind in face always they have great noses, but there eyes and hearing, are not as good. Move slowly in on them with good camo. Good Luck

I'm heading down with the Wensel group at the end of February.  I have heard of people successfuly calling javelina.  Can anyone explain this to me?  What type of call do you use?  I've never hunted them before.

Jon,
Any predator call will work. The key is to keep calling.  If you stop to wait like you would on a coyote they lose interest and leave.  Keep blowing with only very brief breaks.  You can call to javi that you already see or just move from area to area calling for 5 minutes in each.  The only problem is that the other people in your group will get tired of listening to you  :)

I've used a predator call jackrabbit type, they make Javelina calls sound about the same. They work best when you bust a herd with babies in it, as soon as they wolf and take off running, start calling by making short squeals often they will stop and look ,but be ready I have had them turn right around and come running right at you woofing and stop within 5 feet.Stand your ground and be ready to shoot, the first time that happens it will scare the heck out you.
I have shot a few under 10 yards. You'll have your best luck getting close if you keep your face in the wind and move slow, also if you see only one or two Javelina keep looking around, they are hard to see and there probably more.

Thanks for the help guys.  Doc, It looks like Rob is going to be in camp with me too.  I just got a new set of limbs from Ricky.  Can't wait to test them out on some pigs.
