For the second year in a row a group of us got together to do some deer hunting on New Years day which is the last day of Michigans deer season. Since it's the last day of season we do a few drives through the areas we hunt earlier in the season. This year we had seven guys hunting five stickbow shooters and two with compounds. Everyone had an awsome time 6 out of seven guys had shots and we killed to nice does. I can't think of a better way to bring in the new year than in the winter woods chasing deer around with a longbow in my hands.

Nice shot and nice doe way to start the ney year! Can;t wait to get out for our January season here in CT. Looks like you guys got a little bit of snow :D .-Scott
Nice doe, nice tradition. Cook her carefully and enjoy her flavor and nourishment. ;)
That doe of your's is a testimony to uber-heavy arrows, J.T.
this doe was the first deer I shot with the purple heart arrows I usually shoot full length 2419 aluminiums that finish out at 780grns with 175grn heads I get great results with the 2419's but wanted to shoot some woodies and the purple heart shafts were the only thing I could find that was long enough. I was amazed at the penatration I got with the purple hearts I hit her in the spine as she ran past and the arrow cut the spine in half and went out the other side stoping with just the fletching showing.
Can only imagine how they must arch in flight though...
They fly quite well actually they group right with my aluminiums out to about 20yrds and only about 2 to 3 inches low at 30yrds. However I don't see a good reason to need 1000 grain arrow for hunting deer sized game.
They do however make an already whisper quiet bow absolutly silent.
Jt...thanks for sharing....wed love to have you guys join our michigan bunny stomp in february...if you look down in the michigan trad bowhunters forum youll see some info.... i will be posting more info in january..this year it will be held in st johns,mi at sleepy hollow st park.
jacobsladder,
Thanksfor the invite I'll try to make it. We all live on the west side of the state.
In the first picture, that guy on the right, does`nt have enough clothes on to hunt here in Texas let alone in that kind of weather. I`m getting cold just looking at the picture. I just cant do the white death. Ugh!
Great tradition. Looks like everyone was having a good time. Did this take place in SW Mich?
What a great way to end the season! Congratulations to all of you. :campfire: :archer:
We were hunting near my dads house in Oceana county near the town of hart, west central Michigan
I was on that hunt with J.T. I am wearing the predator camo in the first pic.
Great way to spend the day with good friends!
Not only was the hunting great but the lunch of moose, bear, perch, potato's and HOLY COW bars was equally as good!!!!
The deer J.T killed with the PH shafts was very impressive!! I number of us commented on the size of the exit hole! Biggest exit I have ever seen, a small child could've crawled through it!
Great shot J.T. Good hunting with you and the gang!
That is awesome guys!! Congrats on the doe!! Nothing better than late season hunting in Michigan when it is snowing!!
What's all that white stuff? Never seen that before. Congrats on the doe and thanks for sharing.
JT, congrats on the doe. Looks like you all had a fun day. It is hard to believe that MI deer season is over already. It went by so fast. I'll be out trying to hit a few bunnies soon.
JT,
That's two Jan 1st in a row, way to go! Guess your dad will have to wait until October to even out the score again this year. Glad to see that you finally got to use those purple hearts in the field. Great pictures. Say hi to everyone for me. Hope to see you soon.

Congrats! Looks like most of you are wearing wool. Does anyone know where I can get the same, without breaking the bank account?
Congrats to all of you. Those pics are awesome.
Gene,
Most of us are wearing wool. Some King of the Mountian, which will break the bank. The guy in ASAT is wearing DayONe wool. Great stuff with a decent price. Also JT is wearing the Wooltimate from Cabelas. Very nice stuff that is currently on sale!! I just bought some on Friday.
I am in the predator camo in the back. I am a fleece guy and the jacket I am wearing is from Dayone Camo. Great jacket. I also was wearing a pair of military surplus wool pants, I bought for $7! It was a great buy.

Great photo! It is great to get the gang out in the late season. Everyyear all my buddies disappear when I call them to go out in the late season :banghead: . However, I am out there a couple times a week and couldn't imagine not being in the woods :) .
Great Hunt Guys. I hope us Jersey/NY folks can do the same this Saturday. We have the rest of January here in Jersey and up to the second week of February in some zones.
Nicely done!
