Trad Gang

Hi, I'm new,  and I'm a 17 year old girl from Ontario, Can.

I just started today shooting a longbow under the guidance of Cary ( BigDog), I have been best buddy with Cary's daughter Kayla for 7 years now.

I have been staying with Cary and Kelly for 2 months now and I have watched Cary shoot alot.
I'll post some pics of my first session in a bit, but I just wanted to say hello to everyone.

Well, I'm tall, thin and I have dark hair, kinda like Arwen in the LOTR movies, ( and my ears are a bit pointed...lol)

It is -25 outside, so I shot in the garage at 10 yards  :)

It is a dryad soothsayer that Cary won two years ago.

They are great bows with good cast and smooth drawing. I just finished up a Dryad hunter bowblank last October and it came out at 43# at 28" draw.Dryad makes a sweet bow and if you ever wanted to try your hands at making a bow there bowblanks are good for beginners.I am going to order a blank soon for my new adopted daughter and she and I will work on it together as she gets older.She turns two tomorrow so she has some growing to do yet before we begin working on it .

Maybe we'll have to look into getting you a custom made longbow just for you?

The arrows are a bit long, and I'm going to be needing a shorter longbow that is a bit lighter; that is when I get the $$  :)  to get one!

An Arwen update:


We were shooting today again at 15 yards. She is getting very good and her form is coming along nicely.
6 yard form-shots? she broke a nock!!!  :)

The girl is a natural.

Arwen,  I have a Baby girl who just turned Two on Thursday and last week she was helping me put nocks on a new set of arrows I was Making and she already can say Buck when she looks at my deer heads.....I pray she will love the outdoors as much as you and Killy do....Last week she and I watched that show on the  animal planet about the Grizzlyman and she was really tuned in to the bears....I just looked at her smiling because I prayed to God for a girl that would love the outdoors as much as I...I did get pics of her sitting on our kitchen table putting those nocks on...They aren't to young to start and Killy I can only imagine how your Father felt when he saw you with your first bow in hand...God Bless!  Keefers <")))><

Welcome Arwen. keep up the good work and working on the form is helping. In your first pics it looked like the bow was a bit heavy for you. Your bow arm was at a weird angle. By your second set of pics it wasn't that way anymore. So your doing good! Plus your lucky to have people around you that shoot. I had to learn on my own. But its addictive so I stayed at it. Now I teach kids archery.

Tanks for keeping us updated BTW. It gets a bit slow around here after hunting start ending.

As far as my dad goes, he seems to scratch his head in puzzlement a lot. He doesn't do any of this stuff.

I'm happy she has so many people encouraging her, she needs that.

Heck I do that anyway. There are 7 in my house only two guys and the rest girls. And the real scary part  Only two bathrooms!!!!
