Title: Making your own shafts
Post by: Stone Knife on January 01, 2008, 04:30:00 PM
I have been getting into arrow building including compressing cedar shafting. I have been toying around with the idea of making my own shafting. I would love to see your setups for turning down your own shafting, and see the different woods you use.

I got the idea for my doweling machine from this site:

I refined it some. My router is attached to the underside of a chunk of flat aluminum. Instead of wooden blocks, I made blocks from alumninum. Bored the blocks in my lathe and made interchangeable steel bushings of different sizes for the output block.

I get perfect dowels every time with spruce or hardwood.
