Whitebuffalo (jason), Drew (Drew), my son (jakejr.trickshot), and myself (Jacobsladder) decided to keep to our new years resolution and spend as many hours in the field this year as possible... I jumped 8 bunnies solo yesterday, and the snow hit hard last night.. the bunnies for the most part had holed up...Rosie (Jasons old beagle) got a couple running after the storm..but we were unable to get any shots..... heres a few pics to give ya guys a dose of michigan winters......... wish we had snow down here, yesterday I went on a bunny hunt, had a 3 foot cottonmouth crawl over the top of my foot, scared the hell out me, glad I had the gun with me, snakes are getting to be a real problem down here, gonna wait till we get a cold snap and I'll be back out with a longbow
Steve, looks like you had blast, bunnies or no bunnies! Rabbit population is down here around my place for the last few years.....coyotes I reckon. I wish I could been there. Thanks for sharing! Mike
Ian...we only have one poisonous snake in michigan....it is rare and really dont think its very potent....its the missaukee rattler...im not sure i spelled it right...ive never even seen one.... that old cotton mouth would of been frozen stiff up here today....

I think you mean the massasauga. Around tionesta pa,they are referred to as "black snappers". :campfire:
mike your always welcome bud! the bunnies here are hit or miss.... you can find a honey hole that will have a dozen in it...then walk another mile before coming across any tracks....... its all about undergrowth, briars, and thickets.... the coyotes are definitely tough on them....weve got the same problem here......

Looks like a good time for sure.
"After the storm..."
Must be nice, we are still getting lake effect as I type. WOuld have loved to be in the woods, but the time card had to be punched.
Looks like a lot of fun.
Looking good guys. Wish I could have made it. Like John said it is still snowing over on the west side of the state. We are still supposed to get up to 6 more inches tonight and another 3-5 tomorrow. Looking forward to the bunny hunt in a few weeks!! Do shoot them all save some for me!!
Looks like ya all had a great time. Gotta love that snow. Makes for great bunny hunting.<><
To cold for me, looks like fun.
Had a great time, and got a good workout. Rosie is top notch in my book!
We had another front come through and got another 3" of snow...the funny thing it's suppose to be in the high 40's and 50's next week. :banghead:
Since I didn't get enough punishment, I went to pull my traps and do some bunny hunting on public land after this hunt...missed a nice big gray squirrel but that arrow in the pine boughs sure made it snow more!! :biglaugh:
Man Steve...you should have got a pic of JB in his Elmer Fudd "Shield" hat.. :biglaugh:

Got any snow snakes in Michigan. There are a lot of them in Wisconsin this time of year. they're pretty lethal. They wrap themselves around you and freeze you to death. :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
