Title: New Years Self Bow Giveaway for Parent/Child
Post by: Huntrdfk on January 01, 2008, 09:52:00 AM
Somewhere out in Trad Gang Land I think there is probably a child in the 6-9 year old range that needs a bow, that would love to shoot with his or her dad........I would like to remedy that.  I have two osage selfbows that I made a few years ago, one for me, and one for my son Hunter.  Both are snakeskin backed with antler tips and leather grips, mine is 64", 50@29", his is 48", and about 12@16".  Hunter has since outgrown his bow, and it has sat on the bow rack for a couple of years now, as has mine.  (The adult bow is right handed, and the youth bow is left handed, but I will modify it to be a lefty/righty bow before it goes out).

Here are the bows....

This is how I would like to see this work.....if you are interested and fit the criteria of having a child without a bow, and you will also shoot a selfbow, send me a short note on via PM why you should be the one to get the bows.

There is a level of trust involved here as there is one big caveat attached to this......when your son or daughter outgrows the youth bow, you must send both on to another parent/child combination to keep the bows shooting.

I will pick the deserving parent/child winner on January 6th.......

That is outstanding David! Is hunter's bow a lefty, or is that just a floppy rest that can be changed.

I wish Adam and I fit the criteria, as those are beautiful. We're all set for gear and we shoot together quite a bit. Good luck to all the boys and dads, or girls and dads, or boys and moms, or girls and moms!

You're right Kenny, Hunter's bow is lefty as is, but I will modify it to make it right/left handed before it goes out.

Those are incredibly beautiful bows.  One I would very proud to own and shoot.  But I must confess my children are all a bit too old to fit the restrictions aptly applied to this offer.  I hope someone who does have young children can see the value and generosity of this opportunity.
Happy new year, Christopher.

David,

What you are doing is way cool.  I am sure that some kid and dad will be spending great times together because of this gift.

This is one of the things that makes this group so great.

Mitch

ps  Please do not include me and sky.  I just wanted to post encouraging you.

Ian I will simply file a little off of the left side of the handle and add another floppy rest, at the poundage of the bow the handle will be plenty strong enough.

Oh man your kidding.......

My children are 10,8,6,5,and 3. The youngest 3 don't have bows and have to share with the older ones.

I'd be honored if my name could go in the hat.

I have received a number of responses on this so far, making a decision will not be easy....

Rest assured, if you have pm'd me or posted on this thread you and your little ones will be considered for these bows.

Thanks,

David

What a great thing to do! Me and my kids have been shooting together for as long as they have been able to hold a bow. My oldest (Daughter) is 16 now, and outshoots her compound wheelin would be suiters! Teenage boys dont handle that kind of rejection very well!

Makes me wish that I had a kid.  So that I could tell him/her that I've had the pleasure of meeting David in person and can confirm that he's one class act.

+1.

I guess in my business(archery shop) what gives me the most pleasure, is setting up a bow for grandchild that a grandfather is going to purchase.  I can imagine the two of them hunting together, creating memories that will last for a lifetime.  I didn't have that as a kid, but I sure do enjoy helping it happen with others, and I'd like that to happen with my grandchildren, but everyone in my kids, are at least three states away, great idea

Huntrdfk,

I ahve a friend whose young son is now shooting an old fibreglass bow that I loaned him. Micheal, who is seven years old, started "arrowing" at a YMCA youth camp. He really took a liking to his "arrowing" so I loaned him the bow that my Dad gave me when I was five.

His Dad would like to shoot too, but can't really afford it.

This would be a way I could get a Father and son shooting together, traditionally.

Please add my name to list, for Gary, and and his son, Micheal.

David, I work with a guy that is just getting into archery his son has shown a real interest in shooting. He has been looking through my trad magazines at break time and at lunch and asking questions about a recurve or longbow for his son. They would be deserving candidates for this drawing. If they were to win a pair of bows like theses the sky would be the limit for those two. Could they be considered for this drawing? There names are Dave and Jake.
