Guys, if you didn't sign up don't just post your target. There was a sign up that ran Nov. through middle of Dec. and another 2 weeks after that was a list of people to make sure I didn't miss anyone. When you just post your target for the hell of it you make it really hard to find and score the peoples targets who signed up. Not to mention me having to locate your name on the list..only to find out it's not there. If you want in wait till the next one. Sorry I have to be this way, but dang it that's the way it is :knothead:
• Alright this is week 1 of a 5 week series. The rules below are the final rules, and if you need any clarification please PM me. If your question is something I left out of the rules I will modify them. I will post any modifications in bold.
• You may shoot your first target using 5 arrows. Post your target with your screen name (the one you signed up with) and your score WRITTEN ON THE TARGEt. All targets are to be posted by 12:00 Noon Sunday, Jan 6, 2008.
1. Any bow longbow or recurve – No Sights what so ever.
2. No arrow restrictions....carbon, wood, aluminum, cane....etc...are OK
3. A cut line gets rounded up
4. An "X" is a 12 everything is as marked
5. Targets must be turned in by Sunday 12:00 PM (Noon)
6. You cannot shoot all 5 targets in one week and turn them in one at a time or all at one time
7. You may practice/warm up before shooting your target
8. If more then 5 arrow holes appear in your target your weeks target will be a zero
9. Targets will be shot at a distance of 15 yards or 45 feet
10. Everyone will shoot this Target no exceptions
http://www.uspalma.com/Targets/PDFs/200%20reduced%20for%20100.pdf
11. WRITE YOUR SCREEN NAME AND SCORE SOMEWHERE ON THE TARGET. Other information such as bow and arrow combo is OK as long name and score are there as well....Make them readable.
12. No whining, bitching, moaning, groaning, or complaining.
13. You may use a visual aid on your target. Such as an orange dot covering the X. As long as it does not obscure the line for scoring.
• We will be using this target so that everyone can print it. It will print on regular paper(8.5X11).
http://www.uspalma.com/Targets/PDFs/200%20reduced%20for%20100.pdf
• Best you can get is a 60 (5 arrow * 12 points = 60)
• All times I refer too are in CST/CDST
Arghhh. I'm in the middle of trying to tune some new arrows....now to decide to shoot the old woodies or try the new heavy weighted carbons (of course I only have on fletched!). This'll be fun! Happy New Year, all.
Aweee man shoot the new ones....Who needs fletching anyway :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl: :biglaugh:
Rule #12 is my FAVORITE :readit: :bigsmyl:
It's a small thing, (Am I in violation of Rule #12? :readit: :goldtooth:

Are you guys pulling your arrows after each shot or shooting all five then puling them?
Larry, I can't believe you pulled one out of the X area!!! lol Great shooting. I hope to get out and shoot soon. Great one to lead the way.
Jeff, forgot to add the rule about using the orange stick on dot to be able to better pick a spot...
Ok time for a newbie (dumb) question. If I hit the paper outside the 8 ring is that a 7 or a 0?
Outstanding shooting Larry !

Big fat ZERO....don't sweat the zero's if ya get one....if we could hit the X every time what fun would things like this be
Ok so I took 2 warm up shots and missed the target completely. I did manage to put 2 holes in my 100 foot garden hose. Does this count for extra points? Then I taped the bullseye on the target and shot these 5. Beginners luck for me.

It will be fun to see the targets- but I'm thinking a new thread for each week, so it doesn't take an hour to load all the pics??
I'll be shooting mine tonight- have fun all.
Here's my first week score 47. I'm shooting with no warmup trying to make it similar to huntin. 54# @ 26" Bear Super Kodiak (http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg177/Joe-Mart/DSCF1916.jpg)

Greg, you sure you have 36? That 8 looks like a linecutter to me to give you 37.
Graham
There's some good shooting X2!!! I can see I need to get a little more serious here! lol
Did we have to sign up previously, or can we jump in and submit a target by Sunday?
Here's my feeble attempt for this week.
Is it possible that my picture got mixed up with X2's?
Probably not, just hoping.
Can we make X2 shoot from 25 yards next week? :bigsmyl:
Awesome target! :clapper:
I think Larry and X2 should be required to shoot one-handed.

Jeff I come up with 48?
I think he had one miss and the top is probably where he attached the target to a backstop. Looks like 3 - 9s and a 12. I think thats what he is saying.
Jeff, you shot a 48 Bud, take another look at your target..Heres what a 35 looks like, its so freaking windy and cold here wasnt going to shoot at all but have too much to do the rest of the week. 47# Super Diablo, GT 35/55 W/125 GR. point.18 mph. wind and 15 below wind chill!!!! Theres only one hole in the target top left, it was taped to bag target and arrow wiggled or fell tearing paper. Your're right man thanks for keeping an eye on me fellas.
it's 4 X 9's and a 12
Ok, I'll admit I was wrong about Jeff's score. Who listens to a guy who puts 2 holes in his garden hose anyway.
Greg, don't get bag on yourself man..check out ths pic below...wanna guess what all those gray dots on the CONCRETE wall are... :bigsmyl:

HOLY CRAP!! UKarcher are you flingin arras or shooting a 44Mag?? LOL
I'll be shooting and posting my target tomorrow evening. Too damn cold and dark to shoot tonight.
LOL, I've got a 1" dowel in the garage I bet I can get to hit the target at 15 yards. That ought to give me some good liners. ;)
I've been slacking on practice so much lately, I'm almost afraid to see what kind of target I'll end up with. :help:
Been fighting bronchitis for two weeks and haven't shot the bow for about as long, plus its cold out but I'll take it.
Looking at some of this shooting...I surrender! Hmmm, maybe if I blow the target up to an E-Size drawing, shoot it, then the photo will make it look small.....yeah, that's the ticket!
Guys, Larry can flat out shoot. I am sure you will see a 60 out of him before the 5 weeks is up. Shawn

Nice shooting!!! Alright boys, we better concentrate a little harder! These guys are serious! lol Now honestly, did you work up to this? Did you shoot until you felt you were shooting good enough to post a target?
I will admit I shot at least 20 arrows from 2 different bows to warm up before I shot my target. I used the bow I was shooting best at the time.
ks_stickbow,
Sorry. No, I didn't sign up. I didn't see the first thread(s) and just caught this thread. I read the rules but signing up wasn't originally on the rules, though I see it is now. Maybe I missed it too. It looked like fun and I thought I would join in.
Though I understand and I will catch you next time.

Snag i shot mine cold, no warm up I hoping to get better at making first shots count. This is good practice for me also, I shoot better at 22-23 yds than i do 15 I need to get used to that arrow pointing at the dirt and trusting that it will go where I'm looking. I see what you mean though about gettin serious. Joe
OK guys, here's mine for week 1. I'm ashamed after seeing the other scores that are up there, but I promise to do better next time.

Rod I'm not sure I understand. You say there were no 12's but the picture looks like you shot the X right out of the target. Looks like 4 12s and a 10 for 58. Are my old eyes fooling me?
the vegas target is scored 10 and then nine...I think he was saying he was used to adding it up that way.
I thought I wasn't seeing it right either Ben. I see the same thing.
Ben, the Vegas target I've been shooting a lot lately scores 10,9,8 etc...no 12's and when scoring I forgot we were calling the X a 12. I scored the target 4 tens and a 9 because that shot was outside the center circle, whih is how it would have scored on the Vegas face.
Nah, your eyes aint fooling you...I get confused easily ...lol
Here ya go, be kind....

I know you have him down as NightHawks son but lets' call him Patrick as that's his name. Hope it clears up any confusion sorry :)
Score man...what's his score :bigsmyl: ...I have him down as Patrick now.
Nice shooting Rod... I'll be glad to add up your score for you next week :D :D :D :D .
David
David...thanks! that may be a good idea! This shooting Vegas targets in league, then the reduced Palma target here, as well as the 60cm face in another online league, may be well abouve my head :bigsmyl:
Rod good shooting!
Been practicing and realized something in the first couple shots.
I have never shot at paper targets and generally shot one arrow at a time from random spots and angles.
It is different. I usually hit the black with the first arrow but get worse and worse through the five.
After a couple of days of shooting from the same spot I am now grouping.
Tonight my wife wanted to shoot for the first time since a hand injury. She was just starting when it happened and that was months ago. The fam was in the garage shooting and for kicks I took a few shots. All were in the 10 ring! The problem: Her bow is right and I shoot left.
My head is messed up!
My hats off to the target shooters out there put a paper out there and things are different.
This deal is just what I needed to improve my shooting. My target shooting is usually one arrow at each of five 3D targets at ranges from 13 to 31 yards. Although, I have been doing pretty decent at it,this five arrow spot shoot has really helped me focus more on form. Hopefully at the end of five weeks I will see an improvement. I'm definitely inspired by some of the awesome shooting displayed by you all so far!!
David
I never used to shoot paper...I always figure what's the point when really the first and only one arrow counted. Then on a trip to texas for some piggies I drew on two piggies and wiffed them both. The reason for the wiff....short draw, no anchor, poor release....blah blah blah....all the stuff that should have ingrained in my head from shooting paper.
Now I shoot paper everday. For me If an arrow doesn't hit were the other 4 are it's cause there was an inconsistancy in my form. When I see tight groups I know I'm not dropping my bow arm, I know my release is perfect, no short draw...etc..when I can get my arrows to group without thinking or concentrating on anything but the point of impact I know I am ready to point my arrow at a 4 legged creature.

Jeff, one thing I've learned from guys who are really good at shooting paper is.......every arrow is the only one that counts and to put everything you have into that one arrow, then do it again on the next arrow! I treat even a 60 arrow 300 round like 60 indival tournaments.
Even though I'm not passionate about paper targets like I am hunting shots and 3D....it sure is good practice, to be slapped in the face with that cold hard score, about how well I've done on that one arrow that counts.
Matty Here: Score = 49

Rod, I just C&P'd that into my file of quotes. It is something that I figured out for myself when shooting metallic silhouette matches. It is nice to see someone as accomplished as you echo a basic truth that I had arrived at while walking a different, yet identical, trail.
The groups are far more impressve when you see the targets with the arrows in them, bringing the size to scale. I am SO motivated, seeing how well you all are doing.

Well, I may be above average (by a single point!) right now and feeling good about myself in the best Stuart Smalley tradition,
but Jeff:
YOU ROCK! :clapper:
I am glad to see that some of this trad community can see the benefits of shooting paper at marked yardage. Where I shoot, this is always a heated discussion on how shooting paper at known yardages messes up your hunting ability to shoot at animals. They can take a lesson from this group. My pleasure to be a part of: mr.chuck
I have also thought that if you want to improve a skill, whether golfing, oaring a raft through whitewater, etc, you should do it with people better than you. Kind of pulls you up with them. Listening to comments like Rod's and Killie really help when you are out in your yard preparing to shoot. Thanks to all of you guys. I look forward to seeing how we all continue in this.
Had 1 flyer, great fun!

Hey Rod, Larry and X2
The rest of us have been shooting from FIF-TY yards....You should be ashamed of yourselves!!! :biglaugh:
Here is mine for the week, score of 53, with a Blackcreek longbow, 62" 42@28", 2016's. (http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s89/bgram62/target1-6-08.jpg)
Ok, I think I need to work on the size issue, might try a different camera for next week.
Thanks fellas, week one went better then I expcected and the turn out was about 55%...over half the people who signed up turned in week 1 score. Thems pretty good percentage.

Good shooting guys!
Glad I got in.
Thanks again to Nighthwak for doing my posting. And to ks_stickbow for compiling.
Nice shooting all around.
Well, darn... I didn't make it :^( wanted to shoot it yesterday, but the printer ran out of ink, company came and by afternoon it was pouring rain. Did get out and try it in a spot of sunshine this morning.. freezing cold, but at least no rain. Shot this 47... maybe I'll be on time and do better next week.

David

Jeff, sorry it took so long to reply. I was out of town for the weekend. Sad to say that would be a double line breaker 45!
I caint seem to figure out photo bucket. I'm out, be watching though
Drummer, no need to sit out...you can email your pics to me and I will post them for you.
Shoot week 2 and email me your target!!!!
Has anyone said how well you have done putting this together and making sure it all works Jeff? Well, if not....Good Job! and Thanks! This is a fun thing to do during the winter.
Thanks for the kind words snag...I'm having fun too, and learning alot about my shooting :bigsmyl:
my only intention starting this was to have a bit of fun...seems like it's working!!!!
I guess I'll have to start in week two, every time I thought I might have time to get my shots in something would come up, never did get mine done. I'll do better this week now that everyone has headed back home and our house has calmed down from the Holidays.
Sure has been some impressive shootin goin on though.
Rick
