Very nice job John!
I never tire of looking at these skins, as a finish.Just sssooo stricking on osage. I think we picked out a good set also?
And in a hotel? Bet the maids wondered what you did in that room?
I'll give ya

looks way cool
-
Very kool John! I saw the pics of Timo's bow he posted a few months ago...my dad's going to have to re-stock his grass carp this fall ;-)
Don't know how I missed you at Mojam...sure wanted to meet you and Mickey. I got to meet Mickey, of course he's easy to spot, just look at every kid that walks by until you find one with no hair ;-) You'll just have to wear a flag on your head next year so's I can spot you.

GREAT! I can't look at thee kind of threads anymore. They make me want one of these BAD!!!!LOL<><
-
WOW!!!!!!!!
I want one!!!!!! That is one cool pattern.
-
great looking skins there! I too wonder what the maids will say.
-
very nice work John. I have done alot of things in a motel room but never did that. I think when you carry that much stuff on the road with you, so you can build bows. YOU MAY BE ADDICTED!! Good job..
-
The overlays are glued up. I'll hopefully get to shape them tomorrow and even start the sanding and finishing.
You know Tim, these things do stink a bit. I had the bow in my hot truck all day while I worked and then had a 5 hour drive home. I got a bit sick of fish skin smell. It's worth it though.
I kind of wondered about the maid. I cleaned up real well but there was that odor. I wonder what the maid thought of a fish smell in a hotel room. Maybe she's used to it :)
I have no doubt I'm addicted Chad.
See you next year rocdoc.
I got a turtle strike plate (Timo again) and a buffalo wool windicator (madpigslayer) to add also.

Way cool bow John, your in Illinois, maids are used to fishy smells
-
Nice work John. I prefer 56-58lbs @ 28".
-
John, firstly, might I say that I am impressed with the fact you are doing that in the hotel. WAY COOL. (hardcore, but cool)
secondly, you look way younger in person.
thirdly, you didnt say goodbye to me at Mojam, you big jerk. :)
and last but not least...thanks for sharing. I too got some goods from the 'Jam that I just might hafta start werkin on.
...and I aint givin it to Hackbow either!!!! :D
-
Dano, yea I guess you're right.
Hacker, go to bed. You too Calvin! It's 58#@27"
Calvin, my departure from MOJam was not what I wanted it to be. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings. I'll try to be more sensitive next time :) Love...John
-
better, much...better. :)
-
You two get a room. ;-)
Those carp skins look really cool John. To be honest, I have no interest in snake for a bow backing but for some reason that fish skin is really appealing.
-
John, The fish smell will stay with the bow, until you get it sealed.Every time you touch it with a file, or do a bit of sanding, you'll be reminded of your "Hotel foray".
-
John, That is one cool looking bow. How did you remove the scales? Same as snake skins?Would an acetone wash kill the fishy smell?
-
Linc, I brought the fish skinning process up for ya.
-
Thanks Timo. Ah,If you're taking orders for next year, put me down for a set please?
Tell Marty I said Hi. :wavey:
-
Well the process for removing the scales is...have Tim do it :)
I got the overlays shaped.

OOOOOOOOo.Nice!
-
Very nice looking bow, and that grass carp pattern is way cool. I sure hope they don't make it to the Great Lakes though! I would rather deal with some of you guys for the skins!
Thanks for sharing. That vise in on the 2x4 is a good idea.

Nice job John, but most of your stuff looks good. i need to get started on mine but need to make some more neck knives first. loyd
-
John is that the bow you were "rubbing" on at the pavillion that night? I was wondering if I did fishy skins over my purple bow, would it show through like the osage does? BTW that bow turned out pretty cool. Gonna borrow a digicam and get pics up soon. One cool effect is that the purple dye on the bamboo side changes back and forth to an irridescent (sp?) green in the sunlight. coooool.
-
Nice John real nice  Those are huge limb tips for you, gonna reduce them any?
I threw my carp skins in the back of my pickup at Mojam. Whew, truck smelled like a Chinese fish market for awhile. They are in a zip lock plastic bag now.
-
That is one of the most unique backings I have seen.....great innovation Timo and nice job with the application John....Terry
-
John,
That's a beaut. I'm working on my own hunting bow that will have the carp skins also.
Mike

Tom, This is a different bow than "Slowbow". I'd say the purple would show through but it might be cool. Looking forward to seeing your purple bow. I wanted to take a look at MOJam but...
Mickey, The tips look bigger in the pic than they really are. They will be reduced some but I want to shoot it to see how much shock it has. It was shocking pretty good a MOJam but I hadn't reduced them at all. This mesquite is pretty light and soft so I don't think it will be too bad on the elbows.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I have to be on the road all week but I'll get back to it on the weekend. This is a flying trip so no bowmaking at the Landmark Hotel in Leesville, LA :)
-
What John, You to chicken to build a bow in the Ritz? :D :D :D
I was gonna tell ya at mojam, that I usually do my tip overlays before I lay down the skins, that way I don't have to be so "polite" with the files and sandpaper, but I see that you did a bang up job!
-
Wow! That's a cool look! Natural Camo. Nice work.
-
If I could carry-on my tools and a bow, I'd do it. I hate checking bags.
Yea, I thought about that. But it's really tough to get away with using a belt sander in a hotel :) It worked out OK but I scuffed the skins in a couple places.
-
Beauty John! Those skins are really something. Nice work, as is all your stuff that I saw.
That Tim is a pretty good "idea" man too! Way to go....both of you.
