Just bought and fletched GT 5575 with four-4" with 125 gr. field tips at the front.
My bow is 55#@ 28" PSE Coyote and drawing at 28.5".
I am set on buying the GT Traditional Hunters. The 5575 fly real well at 10-13 yds, but seem to be a little off at 15 yds and over.
What kind of carbons should I buy. 35/55, or the 55/75???
If ya' stick with the 5575's, you'll need ALOT more weight on the front end...
you need to get some brass inserts , heavier heads , or switch to a lighter spine carbon...35/55 or ce150...... its typically better to leave the carbons longer...they stiffen up very quickly when cutting them down...
I fully understand the 3555 recommendation, but I shoot a 47lb recurve, and the 3555's I'm shooting right now require me to remove all the extra weight I like up front, and are still showing underspined with only a 125 grain tip, cut all the way down to 28 1/2" (I can't go any shorter), so I'm leaning towards 5575's too - but as Bowspirit and jacobsladder point out, I'll probably have to leave them full length and add some weight up front, or they will be overspined.
Although I've been a long time GT fan, I'm looking at other choices right now, as I just can't seem to get a GT to shoot right out of this setup of mine. Just got some AD Trad-Lites and Grizzly Stik Sitkas to try out, and so far, I'm impressed by both.... but man... they are expensive!
I did a poll on here a while back, and the Carbon Express ran away with the votes. I think I'd try that CE 150 before switching over to the 3555's.
Or... if you still have some full length 5575's, I have a few 3555's I could swap you for so we could each do some testing. My 3555's are traditional blems, but they are in really primo condition (I can't tell them are "blems"), and I have about a half dozen new uncut shafts left.
All the best,
Glenn
You need 250 gr tip for 5575. Right now your total arrow weight is 424gr .
i would try 100grn brass inserts , and 200grn points.
I'm working up some heavier arrows for Africa, and my first arrow for my 50# at 29" RD longbow, cut to center right now has my GT 5575 at 31" with 350 grains up front, total arrow weight about 650. They were bare shafting real well full length with 300 up front. Thats 100gr brass insert and playing with point weight. Both were bare shafting beautifully. Goodluck.
Finally dialed in yesterday. Bareshaft, field points and broadheads. All flying better than i can shoot out to 26 yards. 5575 @ 29 3/4,with 50 grain brass insert + 175 grain Points. 5 1/2 " feathers. 57 lb Zipper Recurve @28. Hope this helps a little.
from my experience you need at least 100 grain insert and another 150+ for your tip
