How many of you have made a bow yourself and have harvest an animal with it? That is my question.
Thanks, Chad
I think a lot of these trad gangers have done it - but they're not likely to brag about it. I've been hanging around tradgang about 8 or 9 mos. Made my first bow from a glued up blank I got at the Bowyer's Journal Traditional Archery Expo in Wheeling last spring. Have made 2 self bows from trees I cut down, and made one really sweet takedown long bow I made from a Bingham's kit. I got 3 deer with the takedown this year. It's a great feeling to get a deer with a bow you made yourself. I haven't touched my wheeled bow for about a year.
Everything I`ve killed for the last 12 yeaes has been with bows I`ve built, until this year. The bows I build for myself seem to only last 2 to 3 years, while bows I build for friends last forever,go figure. The bow I`ve been shooting for the last two years broke the first week of bow season. I bought a Pronghorn takedown thru this site and it`s better than any bow I`ve ever built, although not as pretty. When I build my next bow I will copy the Pronghorn as close as possible,it`s that good. But the satisfaction of taking game with a bow you built yourself just is`nt there with a bought bow. Bob
Done that :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
YES
not YET
Have some awesome Bois D' Arc trees just waiting to be cut and cured. Found a whole grove of mature trees, many with good straight branches. Plan to get to work on these. Then I'll let you know.
YEP since 1993 :)
Yep!
Two selfbows, two deer
Yes, Like Kenny also since 1993. Binghams 59" T/D recurve 63#. 40 whitetail, 2 hogs, 1 elk. No greater satisfaction.

WOW John, you do have it bad!! :bigsmyl:
Kenny, I got the bug back in 93 at the MO Deer Classic when they still held it in Boonville. UBM had a booth and a few guys were carving on some risers. I had just ordered a new Hoyt super slam for about $800. I canceled that order and have never looked back. For every one of those kills I probably have a miss or two. I have rebuilt that Binghams bow about four or five times over the years. Got it about where I like it now.
