Wow! Amazing! Awesome!
These are just a few words that describe some of the very generous donations for the upcoming PBS Banquet thus far. We can still use more, if you are so inclined.
I just learned of a special "PBS 2008" knife donated by M.S. Jay Hendrickson. Words cannot do it justice but for starters it has a Curly & Bird's Eye mixed maple handle, it is a clip point hunter and has fine silver inlays of PBS on one side of handle and 2008 on the other side. It is a beauty!
For more information on the PBS Banquet, email me at bahrnone@insightbb.com or visit our website. Information can be viewed on the "Traditional Events" section of Tradgang. Or you can email the PBS Office at: probohunters@adelphia.net or probowhunters@roadrunner.net
Thank you very much to Terry Green for allowing PBS to use the Tradgang forum to generate some more interest in PBS and the Banquet.
Several donated hunts so far: Dries Visser Safaris has once again made a very generous donation.
Kevin, I just finished sanding the riser on the 48 inch youth take down recurve I am making. I just got on the site because I am waiting for the glue on the tip overlays to harden, so I have a good start. Be sure to look for it, some youngster is going to get a sharp little bow. I pretty much copied the one I had made for my kids, but made the grip smaller. Boy they got a lot of use out of that bow.
Karen is making a cross stitch picture called Wild Wonders for the ladies luncheon. Greg
We have over 20 custom bows coming is so far and several still to confirm... Lots of eye-candy for the discriminating Trad-ganger!
Just got an email from John Havard. He and his partner Larry Hanify have donated one of their ACS longbows for the PBS Sat. nite auction. Awesome!
A bowhunt in Namibia from Gert Coetzee at UIB Namibia...
Sounds like it is going to be another great convention!
Too Short
Yep, it sure does, Paul. Hope you can make it! Maybe you can bid on the New Zealand tahr hunt arranged and donated through Councilman Jim Akenson...
Kevin,
I just sent the info to Greg Darling about the Take Down Recurve that I'm building for the banquet. Hope to see you there.
Monte Dunaway
Well even if Karen and I can't make it I'll be sending another damascus knife. The handle scales will be ibex horn courtesy of one Mr Steve Hohensee.
AWESOME, Doug! Looks like this banquet is going to cost me some money, again...better start working some OT I guess.
Monte, that's great! Looking forward to seeing you there! I just hunted over the past weekend with my younger brother that has one of your take-downs.
I donated a self bow, too. It shoots really well, so I hope it finds a good home. PBS is really something special.
Too Short
I hope some appreciates that Mongolian Ibex horn, it looked like Stevo and I might be doing time in a Mongolian prison for that! Also I think it ended up costing Steve about $20 a pound to get it back!
I wasn't going to mention that part Rick ;) Course when your a wildman like Steve that's the risk you take traveling to parts unknown ;)
Doug, Its not just being Steve thats risky, being in near proximity is all it takes!
There will be a Mission flag in display case with a certificate flown in Afganistan.
Donated by Associate member David Darling who has been over there with the 110th Fighter Squadron at Bagram AFB near Kabul loading bombs and ammo on A-10 Warthogs and giving Al-Queda and the Taliban hell with 30mm and 500 pound laser guided munitions.
He will be home to us on the 15th of this month!!!! He has a new little girl named Annie and she is a pure blood 8 week old Plott Hound!!
AWESOME, Greg! I think of David often. I'm glad he is getting to come home. Hope to see him in K'zoo.
We will also have a Schafer Silvertip for auction, donated by Beth and Dave Windauer...
A framed print of Gene Wensel's deer affectionately known as "Woody"...

Hello all,
These items are starting to show up on a "Donations" page over on the PBS site (http://www.bowsite2.com/pbs/) . There are some different items and it sounds like there are more to be listed. Keep an eye on it for your bidding and raffle plans....
....a spot at next year's Wensel Brothers Pig'n'Gig and a few other items have been added to the PBS page.....
Kevin:
Maybe a little early to let the cat out of the bag, but I will be donating a copy of my first book which will be smoking-hot fresh off the presses here shortly...'My Neck of the Woods.' 209 pp., 45 chapters, 117 photos of stickbow hunting, adventure and philosophy. Sent the proofs in yesterday and they tell me they will be ready on or around first week of March. I know it's not a bit ticket item, but might make someone a nice door price. Pretty excited here; only wish I could attend the banquet but as usual being head track coach makes it impossible. Nine years till early retirement...
Well, Kevin has hit me up for some flies, so I have been sitting at the old vise for a while. I've got 50 done, and may add a few more. They will be in a Richard Wheatley (made in England) Silver Seal fly box. The box alone is worth almost $100! I didn't really want to include the Woolly Buggers in a Wheatley fly box (kind of like wearing rubber boots with a tuxedo), but they are killer flies. There are dry flies such as Adams, Blue Wing Olives, Elk Hair Caddis, Red Quill, Sulphers, Quigley Cripples (my favorite) and more. Nymphs include Pheasant tails, Hairs ear, Al's Caddis Pupa, CDC Loop Wing Emerger, and more. A good selection for any trout angler. I know a lot attending the banquet are also fly fishermen, especially those in the PA area, so we thought this would be an attractive item. I can already see Tippet going for these! Wish the picture was better but it is about all my camera could do. Tried to take pictures of some of the individual flies but that didn't work either. Guess you will just have to see them at the banquet!
Goose
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/ClearFork/Flies003.jpg)
outstanding.
Bryce, outstanding! Congratulations on seeing your project through. Put me down for a copy when they get printed. Autographed of course!
Steve, that collection of flies looks just amazing! I think even I might be able to fool a trout with some of those, if we had trout in Illinois...
Ron, hope you can make it to the banquet!
A dozen arrows from Joseph Myers of Montana...
Wow, nice looking bow! Can't wait to see it at the banquet.
Goose
Awesome, Brandon! Thank you!
A camp oven with two cooktop burners from Guy Perkins of Camp Chef...
A RER bow from Kevin and Sue TerMaat...
Table linens, Ladies' jackets and his & hers watches from Marylyn Burton...
Hand-carved relief of Bison and Native American from Jim Chinn...
Oh man, wait til you see what just got donated by Chris McFadden for the upcoming banquet...
Truly one of a kind, and truly an extremely special donation. Thank you Chris!
Details? Keep checking back...
Kevin Bahr don't you spill the beans!! :notworthy: :clapper:
And there are supposed to be several more items added as well. Everybody needs to keep checking in over the next few days..... PBS Gathering (http://www.bowsite2.com/pbs/gathering12.cfm)
Ah, no fun! Wait, yes it is. HA! I'll keep checking the list. And man, what a list it is and still growing!
A Northwind Traditional Bow from Gerry Feigl...
A soft leather back quiver with lion artwork and antler accent generously donated by Gerald Peterson...
I think the list has been updated over there. Can anybody figure out what has Kevin so excited?
WOW!
Now THAT should bring in some very useful funds!
Outstanding generosity, Chris. My hat is off to you.
Daryl
AWESOME!!
Daryl, we need you back buddy.
OK, I have my eye on that Doug Campbell knife. It will probably cost me my "first born" at the auction, but I'm thing about it. I bid on the knife he donated for the banquet in Utah, but I needed at least a little money to get home, so someone else got it.
Just took another look at the PBS web site and the list of donations, and I would be surprised if this the end of them. This list is growing every day! Totally unbelievable! The members have really come through.
Can't believe it is 34 days, and counting!
See you there!
Goose
Steve, I just got an email from Doug last night. He sent a pic of the knife. AWESOME! He is working on the sheath and will be sending it to Dennis Filippelli "for your bidding enjoyment" very soon!
Here a pic till you see the real thing, Stevie's Ibex horn turned out pretty cool. Thanks
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v82/gotahunt/TG%20Tradware%20Outpost/R0010773.jpg)
Oh WOW. I better bring extra money and a lot of it.
Jack
I'm afraid this knife is going to cost enough to test a good marriage! And I'd probably be in less trouble if I brought home another woman, but I'm thinking.
Thanks guys!
Goose
My wife just looked at that knife and said "Wow, that's cool." She wished you guys good luck but did not authorize me to bid :banghead:
But I still can't wait to see it in person. Great work Doug!
:bigsmyl: Awesome knife...
Ron, this knife is looking for a good home with a loving family...
Steve, it's only money...
You can make more money, might not see a knife like this for quite awhile. Doug might like Hawaii so much he won't come back to Montana! I'll still come and visit Doug!
Lookin good!
36 Bows, 15 Dozen Arrows, 11 Hunts and only 29 days to go....
And that is just part of the stuff!
Goose
That is a pretty knife, wonder if I will have to pay as much for this one as I did for his knife in Salt Lake?
Walt, I wasn't at Salt Lake :D Doc
Walt,
You were bidding against me, at least part of the time! It got too rich for my blood (and wallet). See you in Pittsburgh!
Steve
I thought the Salt Lake knife was going to come home with me but I never got a chance to get my hand up before it was out of my league. I will be better prepared this time. ;)
Steve, I was surprised I got it for that price, Kevin was a little intox... uhm I mean loosened up at San Antonio and I think he paid quite a bit more for his then I did for mine. I barely got started bidding on that one before it was too high for me.
Jeff, like you, I have a couple of Doug's knives, even built one myself under his tutelage, but like nice bows you can't have too many . Now if one of your knives were to go up for auction, I'd have to save some of my money for that rather then Doug's; yours are harder for us Montanan's to acquire.
Walt, I was thinking the same thing...except I was thinking about Montana selfbows  Doc
Walt, I prefer to call it "restraint challenged". My wife wishes they would cut me off before the auctions...ah, what the heck. It's only money and for a great cause.
Cool looking knife in your avatar, tippit! That almost looks like contraband Mongol Ibex horn on yours, too!
We have gotten a Foley custom bow from Ron Foley donated...Thanks, Ron!
A Pathfinder Bow from Carl Johns...Thanks, Carl!
It was good meeting you in Kalamazoo.
A framed print of Fred Bear's world record caribou donated by Larry Utnik...Thanks, Larry!
A Hill Country bow donated by Roman Hershberger...thanks, Roman!
A Texas whitetail deer hunt with First Point Bowhunting donated by Nancy and Mike Palmer...
Thanks, Mike and Nancy, for your continued support of PBS!
Kevin,
Someone ask if you have to order banquet tickets in advance, or can you buy them when you get there for Friday and Saturday night?
Mike
Mike, they need to order them in advance. We did have a March 1st deadline, but it has been extended to March 15th. Tell them DON'T DELAY! We need to know our numbers for the folks at the hotel and we might also be very close to being FULL UP! And that's a good thing...
I'd sure hate to see anyone miss out!
Same goes for the hotel rooms, they are going fast now but we still have some left. See my post in the "Trad Events" section and scroll down to PBS banquet for ticket ordering info or go to the PBS website. Or, one could call Brenda at the office. The number is:
704-664-2534
One more note: if you wish to attend the thursday evening BBQ, those tickets are not part of the Half Draw or Full Draw packages and need to be ordered in addition to any other ticket purchases.
Man, I better call and reduce the limit on my Mastercard. This could be dangerous to my financial future!
Joe, you need to "up" it man, UP it!
OK, I just HAD to post this update of one of the PBS donations for the banquet, which is 3 short weeks away...and if I knew how to post a picture, I have one that Ang emailed to me, but I'm "computer stupid".

Well done :clapper: Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Szalewski!
Greg, beautiful bow and awesome work by your wife. See you soon!
Terry
Wow...lots of fun stuff for sure!
Whispering Wind Custom Footed Arrows - 3 Dozen Osprey, donated by Bob Burton. Thanks, Bob!
Kevin, I hear there's a Jerry Pierce bow in a display case ...was it made by Jerry or his son????
Howdy Big Man. The Choctaw bow was made by Jerry. It was donated to the 1990 PBS banquet and purchased there by former PBS Councilman Chris McFadden. He is very graciously and generously "re-gifting" it. It has never been shot...yet.
Might be just your size!
Here is a picture of the bow that I am finishing up for doantion. It is a 66" LH longbow that is 56# @ 28". The riser is Bocote and Wenge and the limbs are Maple and Zebrawood.
Biggie, There goes your allowance!! You need that bow! And I know what you'll do with it too!
Marty...maybe you should buy it. It might get you some priveleges you've been anxious about.
Thanks Kevin....see you soon
Here is a picture of the Take Down Recurve that I made for the PBS 2008 banquet. The riser is Pau Rosa and Wenge with accents of Maple and Wenge. The limbs are Red Elm cores with Kingwood veneers. The draw weight is #57 @ 28". I will not be able to attend but hope everyone has a great time!
WOW Monte That bow is beautiful.
Beautiful bows, Ken and Monte! Thank you! Monty, you NEED to come over man. It's only a few hours drive for you!
Thanks to all of our generous donors. The list of items and trips is simply amazing!
Check this out! This just in... a hog/Osceola turkey hunt in South Central Florida with Marty McMahon and Gene Wensel...! Another fantastic donation! Thanks, Marty! And Gene!
Two, count 'em...2! Youth recurve bows, one righty and one lefty from Dale and Sandie Karch at 3 Rivers Archery...
Thanks, Dale and Sandie!
I just finished a dozen "Yellow Jackets" for PBS. Matched and tapered PO Cedar, selected as the best from a large stash. 67-69 lb spine; 435-454 gr w/o points. :archer:

PBSers--
I ended up sending two signed and donated copies of my new (first) book, My Neck of the Woods. I am also sending 24 copies to the Banquet with Gene and Barry, for those who don't want to roll the dice with the door prize drawings! Ads in the PBS and Compton magazines forthcoming as well. It is my pleasure to donate to the PBS and
it pains me that I cannot be there due to my track coaching position...I think I have finally made the decision to cut that cord for next year which would free me up to spend more time with my own kids, chase spring turkeys and shed antlers more, and maybe get to a PBS Banquet finally!
Have a great time,
Bryce Lambley
P.S. I should add that those arrows directly above look pretty cool. They're TEAM colors (gold/black) for the high school I teach at and I've often fletched shafts using the same color combos as my favorite 'teams.'
Thanks Bryce, If I get there early enuf, I'll have to snag a copy.
Thanks Rick and Bryce! I need some new arrows and I will definitely be getting a new book. One can never have too many books, bows or arrows. Or tags. Or hunting trips.
Bryce, here's what you need to do: just tell the kids, run fast, turn left. Then come to Pittsburgh when they're not looking...!
Just found out, an awesome scrimshawed antler bolo tie made and donated by Brian Tessman...
Thanks, Brian! Had a blast hanging out with you at the WTA banquet!
Check out the pictures of the Schafer bow Dave and Beth are donating:
http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=48;t=000551
Thank you... Beautiful bow, great people
Awesome generosity and a wonderful bow! That will be respected and appreciated (and a little coveted I'm sure). Thank you Dave, Beth and Jake.
Thanks for the link Nook. See you soon!
Hello,
Just wanted to post some pictures of the bow we are donating to PBS for their upcoming gathering in Pittsburgh. We will be sorry to miss it and hope all going have a great time and safe travels!
This particular bow is a 64" Schafer Silvertip 3 pc longbow that is 51# @ 28". It has a walnut dymondwood riser with rosewood dymondwood flare, a checkered grip, moose antler tips and camphor burl limbs. In addition to the bow you will notice a beautiful scrimshaw of Paul that was done by Paul Schafer's nephew Jake Bertelsen. Thanks Jake for your donation and for making this a truly one of a kind bow.
I don't know how PBS plans on utilizing this donation as far as raffle tickets, auction etc but thought those going may want a sneak preview!
Thanks,
Beth Windauer

Somebody want to bid on that one for me???
Beth, not to worry...somehow I don't think your (and Dave's) awesome donation will be in the general raffle.
Have a blast in Hawaii and don't bring home any lava rocks!
Thank you again for the beautiful donation and thanks to Jake as well for his talents to make this truly a special bow!
Steve,
I'll bid on it for you!
Let me give you my bank routing instructions for you to deposit the check :)
Kevin asked me to post this picture for him - he still needs Photobucket lessons. I don't know who made this - I'm sure Kevin will chime in to explain, but it sure is gorgeous!
Thanks, Joe! The fantastic quilt above was stitched and donated by Janet Judson. She has donated quilts to PBS banquets in the past and I must say, they do very well at the auctions! I hope the right 2 or 3 women want this one, it is truly a work of art. Thank you so very much, Janet!
Here are a few pictures of the donated bow I just shipped to Pittsburg for the convention:

Specifications fir the bow are: Osage selfbow, Righthanded, 58# @ 28", 60" nock to nock, Big Horn Sheep Horn tip overlays, and Python snakeskin backing.
Very, very nice work Mr. Francis. I had just noticed that the PBS web site has your donation listed as "Self Bow" Somehow I knew that was a bit understated.
FYI, a correction on one of our great donations:
instead of a recurve bow from Northwind Traditional Archery, Gerry Feigl will be donating a beautiful handmade bamboo flyrod. It is a 7 1/2 foot 4/5 weight.
Thanks again, Gerry!
Dang Walt, I can't wait to see that baby in person.
Beautiful!!
Walt, That has to be one of the prettiest bows I've seen  Plus it has just the right camo for spring black bears. This could be a very expensive weekend...Doc
That sure is a beauty Walt!
On my glass bows I pull about 29". Just theoretically, if the auctioneer somehow got confused if a guy in the crowd was scratching his nose, do ya think that bow might handle an extra bit of draw length?
Don't worry Whip, I'll be sitting next to ya and definitely keep track of your hand going above your nose ;)
FYI, in my excited haste to post another great donation item, I incorrectly described the bolo tie that Brian Tessman has made and donated: instead of just plain old "antler", it is crafted from fossilized walrus tusk, with a scrimshaw "pictograph" artwork, braided leather cord with walrus teeth accents.
Still, I know Brian's work and this will be PRIMO!
Thanks again, Brian!
Uh oh. Roomies lusting after the same bow. :saywhat: This could get ugly!
Hello, VISA? What's the limit on my card?
This just in...an original book, "Sagittarius" by Bob Swinehart. This book is graciously donated by Dennis Scicchitano.
Thanks Dennis! That is awesome!
Joe, in the picture of me at full draw the bow is drawn to 28 1/2". I always overdraw a bow then let down about an inch, so the first three or four hundred times I drew this bow it went to around 29 1/2". I don't think it will have any problem handling 29". The python snakeskin is really thick, in fact thicker then the antelope rawhide I normally use when backing a bow.
Did you see that Jeff? Walt just gave the the green light! :readit:
No Fear...I know you're color blind anyway :bigsmyl:
