Title: Lamination grinder
Post by: hunting badger on December 28, 2007, 12:52:00 AM
I'm looking for plans for a home built lam grinder. I want to try grinding lams from our local Alaska white birch. I'd apreciate any help!

Do a search on this site for 'lam grinder' or a variation of those words.  I have read those threads and you should find what you need.

Also google "thickness sander" and you will find several plans out there, some free, some just a couple bucks.

I use a drum sander on a drill press. Seems to work good. What I did was clamp a square board to the drill press as a guide and I use a digital thickness tool to help me with the size I'm looking for. To make tapered laminations you will need to buy a tapered lam from binghams and glue it to a square board and make a sled. After I get the lam to the thickness I'm looking for I then hold it to the sled and guide it thru the sander on the drill press and it tapers it. Like I said it works great and is a cheap way to go as the thickness sanders are around $800.00 plus dollars.
