There have been several threads lately from guys just starting out or thinking about trying Traditional, being concerned about their ability to hit what they shoot at. Here's bit of positivity for you.
I started Traditional again 3 months ago and worried about the same thing. None the less, I learned all I could (and continue to do so) and practiced everday. My immediate goal was to be proficient on deer sized game at 20 yards. I chose that distance as that has been the average range of all the kills I've made in the last 15 years with compound bows.
Needless to say, some days were better than others but I stayed positive and kept at it. 4 weeks after I started I felt I could ethically try to take a deer, 2 weeks later I made a heart shot on a doe at 21 yards.
I've continued to refine my form and try different rest/fletching/arrow combinations. I've pretty much settled on an elevated rest, 4" vanes, and a relatively light carbon arrow(520-530 grains)as best for me.
This afternoon I strung my Hunter II, walked out to my range, and shot 4 arrows cold at 20 yards. No warm up, 10 degrees outside temp with a light wind. This is the resulting group.
Bear in mind this didn't take years of hardcore practice. It took 3 months of moderate but dedicated practice, every minute of it enjoyable, with solid quality tackle and advice & help from some old pros (mainly here on Trad Gang).
I know there are guys hanging here who can shoot groups like this at 50 yards. The point is that this skill level is more than acceptable for most hunting situations, and I was able to reach it in a fairly short period of time.

Good for you! It takes some dedication and willingness to learn. But with practice and patience it isn't difficult.

Bravo, Jon very good, I must show this thread to a few of my friends, their always looking for some big secret on shooting, but as you said and I try to explain. practice is the key. can't wait to see your progress in 3 more months. Good Luck

My problem's not accuracy,I've been at it hard for a year now and still haven't settled on the cerrect arrowlength point weight combo!CRAP!

I here ya, RH. I settled on a 4560 CX Terminator Hunter, 50 grain brass insert, and 125 grain point. I swap out the CX nock for an Easton Super Nock. I can shoot either vanes or feathers, but go primarily with vanes as they're cheaper and hold up much better to every day shooting.
After a couple months and as my form evolved I gained an inch of draw. All of a sudden I couldn't shoot judos or broadheads with my 29" arrows. Had to get some new raw TH shafts, cut them at 30", and build new arrows. Fortunately I can still shoot the 29" stash with target points so they won't be a waste of money.
Now I'm dialed in and ready to rock, and find that CX has dropped the Terminator Hunter from their line!!! I either have to find a bunch and lay in a stash, or switch to something else....
