Subject: Post Confusion on Trad Gang......
Below is your post you meant to add to a different thread in a different
forum....you can copy and paste it there.....
Not sure how to start this so will just start writing.
As for the attacks on my character because of the weapon choice I made. Uhhh
wellll??
I killed the biggest whitetail buck I have shot with an osage selfbow that I
made. Cut the tree down, split the wood, created a bow, made the sinew glue
that I used to sinew back it and glue the snakeskins on with! The day I shot
that buck I was a true bow hunter. 10 Days later I killed my second biggest
buck, 7 year old, from a ground blind at 5 ydrs, with a Great Plains custom
recurve. I was a bowhunter that day too! As for the numerous other deer I have
killed bowhunting, well again I was a bowhunter.
Now I have also killed many deer with a rifle. Rifle hunter at that time.
I have killed deer and pigs with a Lyman Trade rifle, FFG black powder and
450grn lead conicles. Muzzleloader hunter at that time.
Started off in the beginning as a gun hunter, found traditional archery at
some point and was then a dedicated bowhunter, no guns. Realized the
opportunities I have hunting with all so that is what I do!
My origanal post stated I would probably use a gun. The reason I posted it was
because I was pissed and lookin for a place to vent. Every now and then I like
to write little stories so that is what I did.
Very soon the responses were poring in and the thought of getting the tag back
was strong. I started talking to Heather and she talking to others and the
support put into place a change in the regs and I had the tag back. The people
who worked on this will forever have my appreciation and praise. It was
amazing and will benifit Soldiers in AK forever!!!
Not looking for total exceptance on this as that is the great part about
living in this country. EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion, and those who
take action make things happen!!!
AGAIN thank you to all that participated in this.
Heather and I put so much time into planning this hunt. And our plan was to
take my bow and the rifle, if I couldn't figure out how to get close to
anything by the 8th or so I would use the gun. Not sure how many of you have
had to plan a hunt like this, in the middle of nowhere, for 10 days, but this
was our first time. In the end we could find no way to take the extra weight
of my Habu and acc. At the house we were still 3 pounds over on our 50lbs
limits. Turns out we stuffed our pockets with so much crap that we were 3
pounds under at the flight place. Still not enough.
We flew in and were seeing sheep on day one. No hunting, just camp setup and
prep. The law.
With the terrain and the inexperience, I was glad to have the rifle. Of course
I wouldn't have made the mistake I did but I can't changed that now and have
come to except it as is. I terrible mistake that was made out of..... not sure
what as I usaully have a pretty level head while hunting. We saw a 3 sheep
come DOWN the mountain, 1 legel and 2 not. I raced a click to get infront of
em. Watched the full curl go behind a small knob and shot him when he came
out. VERY bad decision as you all know. Adrenaline, excitement, not hunting
for 2 years, who knows...but pull the trigger I did.
When I walked up to him my excitement immediately went to disbelief. Felt
sick, didn't know how to walk back and tell Heather. My thoughts to everyone
that made this hunt happen tore me apart. HOW could I have let them down.
I got to Heather and started crying because I felt like a total failure. We
went back to the sheep and took care of the dressing and packing back to camp.
Over the next day I caped and cleaned and salted the cape. That was one of my
goals of the hunt as I had never done it and learned all I could prior. Turned
out a success too.
Stressed quite a bit and finally called to get picked up.
Flew out and went to the FG and turned it in. Didn't ASK for any special
treatment, just glad that it wasn't any worse.
For those that think there is no option because you are flying I wonder if you
know how big Alaska is! I have heard stories of the same thing happening and
people simply burying the animal and shooting another...
I try very hard to teach my children right from wrong with game laws.
Everytime my little girl would cry because I was letting one of her copper
river reds go, I would explain the law and how the fish must be caught.
Teaching them right from wrong.
This sheep would also be a valueble lesson in that, they would be waiting at
home with much anticipation. I had to tell them what I did, not to mention my
mother, who was there with them!
But right is right and wrong is wrong.
To those that speak of the Army as being all volunteer and shouldn't get
special treatment. Well for one I would and have never expected it for myself,
as I am sure 98% of Soldiers feel. But when I look at the Soldiers of my
platoon and work with them and think of the things they are giving up to be
here I wish them to have everything special anyone would give them.!!
It is all volunteer but a ton of Soldiers that enlist do not have many options
when they do. Not looking at the Army as a way of life at first, just an
escape, but after they get where they are going they start to learn and love
this job. They are worthy of special treatment, just as the fire fighters and
policemen and woman and many other professions.
Ok this has gotten pretty long, better sign off.
As for my character, It is sound and it is intact. Ask anyone of my Soldiers!
As for the mistake. I have learned to accept it. Very difficult at first. I am
truely sorry for giving a black eye to all that helped out. Forever will be,
but I thank you still.
That hunt did not end as I wanted but Heather and I had an experience of a
lifetime.
And to the weapon choice...
When I killed my cow moose in November I was a bowhunter... Habu Vyperkhan
equaled a dead moose. Awesome experience. And now I shoot an indoor league
with my ACS CX every wednesday and what a BOW!!
When I killed my caribou in Dec. I was a gun hunter. 300WSM, very accurate
gun!! Meat in the freezer!! Only wish I could have got my son close enough as
this was his first hunt ever... But he touched me out there. When I gave him
the opportunity to shoot, leaving the decision to him, with fingers crossed!!!
he told me no, it was to far to shoot!! GOOD DECISION!! And when I asked him
if he was OK not to have a chance at a caribou he said " yes dad, this was
still a good bonding time "" VERY Proud of that boy!! anyway.....

Here's the very reason I emailed you and copied and pasted it so you could also, and not have to re-type it again.....from your post on the thread that was pulled.....

horatio1226,
We do email people probably close to 95% of the time....but some times things happen at the wrong time, and LOTS of emails get returned undeliverable.
BTW...here's a reply we just got from a guy that had a compound bow thread pulled....its a wonder we email anyone wouldn't ya think?....

Bob,
I'm sorry, but I don't understand...... I can't imagine anyone being so petty. Please remove my membership, and information from this horrific site at once.
I sent you an email. I just didn't recieve one and still haven't so wasn't sure what happened.
Thanks for the response, but I just figured out the topic I was trying to post this under is closed now.
Jason
I just got the email. Wow, I thought computers were quick.
Terry
Its never happened to me, but I've seen things get yanked and for the life of me can't figure out why. One time someone actually was accused of
trying a get rich scheme. I could see pulling it but the guy wasn't a con artist. I think that this is a great site with a great bunch of people. I am willing to cut the moderators some slack to keep it that way. Thanks.
Brian
P.S. What the heck was that???
Terry,
Thanks for having a wonderful site and taking the time to deal with it.
Your a great guy and I hope you have a good Christmas.
Mitch

Ok you can see why we pulled it when we did...but we did not accuse the anyone of being a con artist....and not sure why you think we did.
"poof"
How are you and the wild cat doing Rob?
Mitch...
Its past Rob's bed time....after all, he does live with a Wildcat. :D
He should be coming up for air soon!
I got one pulled. It was about some guy hunting illegally on my Uncle's land.It was pulled because people said all kinds of different ways that they would "deal" with him. Many of those could be called vandilism. That is why mine was pulled. We posted signs recently and the guy shot and cut them. What people will do these days.
The thread was pulled and the guy was accused of trying to create a get rich scheme by the moderator.I think that the moderator was out of line and should have apologized to the guy. It was not the respectful treatment that I've come to be accustomed to here. The person is a regular visitor and I feel was humiliated by the moderator. The moderator could have been a little more diplomatic. After reading your previous posts on this thread,I have a little better understanding of what your up against. Like I said , I'm willing to cut the moderators some slack to keep the forum what it is. Thanks for asking.
Merry Christmas to everyone who reads this post.
Lifelong NRA member who has taken up trad.
Posted some Dumb !!!! since I have been here.
Don't ask a lot of questions, but when I do they get answered.
Best site I've been logged onto for quite some time.
And at the bottom of every post I'm referring to St. Judes and the hearts and minds of the best bunch I've ever come across.
Sorry Mitch...its been a crazy night....Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.
No worries!
This is one of the reasons the 'gang' is so good!!
You can see heated words and efforts to maintain all at once.
Well explained and conversed.
Merry Christmas to All!!
horatio1226,
Here's a copy of a couple of posts I've made on another, older, thread that may help folks understand a bit more.....
"Remember when I said we were 'positive not negative'?
Here's a post by Rob that was read negative by a member just today....
""quote:Originally posted by adkmountainken:
i wanted to share a few pic's of the railroad spike hawk that was presented to me by Woodchucker at my hunt last year. ...""
""quote:Originally posted by Admin:
Is this a throwing 'hawk?
Rob.""
I got an email from a member that felt Rob was using police entrapment tactics to get the thread pulled......he obviously read the post negative.
If you read it positive, then you can see that Rob is asking so the thread can stay. If not, then Rob had to pull it to be fair to all the other members that had throwing hawk threads pulled. Being fair is a positive as well.
Any post you see by a moderator, or email you receive can have two tones....all depends on how you want to read it. If you read it in a positive tone I think things are understood much easier.....as we all know the typed word is often miss-read. That's why a lot of the times I email people my phone number."
" quote:Originally posted by heydeerman:
They do keep things on target on this site.
Hey........that's a great way to phrase it...I usually email folks,...'to keep the site focused'...or 'keep the site on course'.
I think I'll use 'on target' from now on...Thanks!
BTW....if people only knew how fast this forum could get out of hand, or, if they spent a few months as a moderator....they would know and understand a LOT more. Its work...and kind of a 'tuff love' to pull threads....but things can snowball pretty dang fast if you aren't on top of it. And, the amount of people that spam and 'work the board' advertising,...and the slick ways they try and go about it. We catch most of that REAL quick.
Thanks for understanding guys......means a lot, more than you know."
I have had several pulled, and always got an email, and each one had a great explanation of why. Thanks for all of the efforts of our mods to keep the site what it is.
You can't please all of them all the time, only some of them some of the time.
jake
Ive had mine pulled or moved...always an explanation and understanding.... best site around with a bunch of time and effort put in!!! We should be thanking the moderators for such a great site and be understanding enough to know that a occasional mishap may happen.... and yes these forums can snowball very quickly...i see it on other sites and it is disgusting!
It feels kinda like the way I protect my kids. They don't even know of the threat. I know that if I am not relentless in my protection of my kids and all of the outside influences, then things can very easily get out of contol.I feel like a 5 year old that is oblivious to what is going on around him. I really appreciate the time you took to explain this, even though you're having a rough night.
Terry, thanks for all the work you and the mods put into Tradgang. It has become a part of our daily "routine" to visit here. The knowledge of the members here is 'PRICE-LESS'...We learn something new everyday....We've met so many people, who have become some of our best friends, that with-out this web site, would not have been possible...and we're just getting started.....Hard to put into words how we feel about this place....Don't let up and keep this a place where I'm not afraid to let Skyler come to anytime.....Don
horatio1226,
Yep...just tucked my little one in. No worries.
Thanks Don.....looking forward to meeting you real soon.
Heck I've been moderated and have moderated other moderators. Were people too trying to do the best we can to keep the site civil and on point. Lots of folks have tried to take advantage of members here and most never see them because we do get pretty serious about watching out for the 99% good members. We can make mistakes and when we do we try our best to fix them. I have a 4 year old myself and like being able to bring him on here to see all the "cool stuff" as he calls it and know it is a place he is protected from what so much of the rest of the internet has become. A place that still has a solid core of traditional values.
Merry "Tradgang" christmas! What a wounderful computer site that has educated me and others so much it is hard to explain. Thanks and "Tradgang forever". Ken
Thanks Guys, Don't change a thing!!!
Merry Christmas
David
I posted a picture of a European Starling that I shot with a longbow a long time back. It was pulled pretty quick because the moderator wasn't very knowledgable of the laws in WV. He wanted to be positive it was a legal kill I guess. Anyway' WV Hunting Regulations state that there is a "continious open season" on the bird along with several other critters. Not bashing the moderator by any means I just wish he would have checked it out before yanking my post. Oh well' water under the bridge. I guess we're all guilty of jumping the gun sometimes. And yes' I like this site better than any other on the net. Very good people here for sure. Glad to be a part of it.
Hope everyone has a VERY Merry Christmas!
Once I posted a thread on my son's first kill. It was a monster and he took it during the youth gun season. I was really only posting because I was trying to learn Photobucket and I kinda figured it would get pulled. The moderator sent me a PM and I chuckled a bit when I read it because it was so apologetic. I felt bad for him. I'm sure it's difficult to know you have to pull something, especially a post about someone's kid, without knowing what the reaction will be.
All the moderators here do a great job. Once you've been around for awhile, it's really no surprise at what threads get pulled. There's nothing personal or unfair about it. These guys don't owe you or me anything. The rules are pretty clear.
Despite this, they still take the time to notify you as to why you screwed up and give you an opportunity (sometimes including their own personal contact info) to respond if you still don't understand it. When's the last time you had that option at the customer service desk?
Great job guys. There's nothing to apologize for.
This site is #1 for me! I like the all for one, one for all feel that this web site has. I hope some day I can start meeting some of the people that participate on this site.
I have had a couple of my threads interrupted because I get to gung-ho and forget to post the right size picture. No big deal I fix them and drive on. The rules are pretty clear, be respectful, keep the subject matter pertaining to traditional archery and watch your picture size. Ha Ha
Being a Moderator for a web site has got to be real challenge to say the lease. The Moderators for this site do a GREAT job at keeping us focused and civil. Thank you guys it does not go unnoticed by me.
I am still quite new to this site compared to a lot of you but I hope that someday my name will be recognized by a lot of you and we can engage is some good conversations.
Merry Christmas and may 2008 be an even better year for the whole Trad Gang.
keep up the good work guys! ya'll do a great job here and have a great group of people!
i have gotten one thread pulled on my experience with ancient spirit but vermonster pulled it being that it was "under review" but has never re-posted it for me and that was 4 weeks ago.
I give all those who take time to make this place what it is..AAAAA+++++++ Merry Christmas to Tradgang and all it's family members.
God bless,Mudd
Love the site and have had most of my posts pulled :biglaugh: I'll learn one day. Put really, thanks to all that make this site fun and for all the stories shared. Merry Christmas
Thumbs up on this site is all I can say. Accept This.
May new bows be under your tree's and Happy Hollidays to you all!!
Terry,
Thanks for using my quote. I thought nobody listened to me around here. :smileystooges:
Might I suggest that even if you have been on here for a while, Ive been here from dern near the beginning, that you take a look at the forum rules from time to time. I havent looked at em since I first signed on and I posted a pic in my signature that got my registration locked up :notworthy:
Mods are doing good work in my estimation. I've had one pulled, is was a stupid thing to post so I got over it.
Good job Mod's! Merry Christmas everybody!
Merry Christmas to all. Terry and the mods, thank you all for a great job keeping this a informative and positive way for us to express our love for traditional archery. I'm proud to be a small part ofit. THANKS AGAIN
thank you Terry and all moderators for keeping this great site alive, fun and loaded with tons of informative stuff. We all get pulled every now and then. To my knowledge, it's always for a good reason  Merry Christmas and a great '08
my early Xmas present(not the car :) ) :
I just had one yanked that was light hearted Christmas diddy.
i think the amount of work put in by the mods to keep this place "on target" is incredible!

heydeerman,.....I think you mean you couldn't edit your profile...cause I just checked and that box was checked....and shouldn't have been.
Taken care of!
The moderators have a full time job, will no pay except the pride of the site. And there they are tops  I've had things pulled, not relizing what they created on the other side of the fence. Being able to see what is on the other side you have to take into account. The poster is responciable for there actions.
The type's that are never wrong, are not around long.
Great job Mod's and Happy Holidays to all!!
Brent
I think this is the best site in the web for information and friendship. Keep up the great work!!!!
wow... glad to see this post. I have only had a small number of posts pulled and thought I was being singled out. At that time, I had no words from the moderators, just a missing post. I can see now that, far from being picked on, it was just a post that didn't fit the format for some reason and it happens a lot.
Terry and other mod's, please keep trying to at least acknowlegde that the post was pulled so we don't spend half an hour wondering what the heck happened and searching for it.. The reasons it is pulled are less important to me, but still good info so I don't do it again.
Keep up the good (and probably tiresome) work. Happy Holidays to you
ChuckC
i "check in" to numerous outdoor related web sites and this site is by far the best. no doubt the moderators are to be thanked for thier efforts.
speaking of moderators...where's Ferret been?
Thanx again, for all you guys do.
Mickey aint been a mod for a year or so.....he's up north...probably chillin.
TG
You and all the other mods on this site do an incredible job. Thank you for making this site what it is.
Terry moved one of mine to help out a newbie and emailed me right away. The mods do more good than bad. They don't get enough pats on the back. Here's one! Wells :archer:
I would sooner be a teacher, a supervisor, a referee, a umpire, a school crossing guard, a policeman, a judge anything with dealing with people face to face then try to moderate an online site.
