Title: Bow for a beginner. (female)
Post by: ThePushArchery on December 19, 2007, 02:17:00 PM
My brother is looking to buy his wife a recurve for christmas. She has shot a 35# before, and can get it back to her knock point just fine.

Question is, should he up the #age so she has room to grow into it, or will this teach her bad habits on the way there.

I guess for now he would not want to go over 40-45#'s and how long did she shoot the 35, do they still have it?

Keep the poundage light so she can develop good form. If she decides she wants to hunt then trade, sell or buy a bow in the 40-45 pound range.

I believe 35# is enough for hunting in PA. Take the time to try a few bows and be comfortable.

If I were him, I would hold off buying it until she can shoot a few and find the right bow that fits her.  It is tough enough figuring out what bow would fit YOU right.  Lots tougher to find one that fits someone else.

Now on the other hand, if he went out and found about a 55# expensive custom bow that just happens to fit himself to a TEE, then if it don't work out for her, it is not wasted.

I would keep the poundage at the 35 mark. I bought my wife and daughter some 35# bows used one is a Bear the other a Ben Pherson. I have a 40# wing but it turned out to be to heavy for there liking, one can always move up in time.
