Hi guys,
I thought maybe I could get some support through a tough time.
After losing both my dogs last year ( one lived a good long life, the other had cancer ), I acquired a new puppy. I thought my emptiness was healed. He was perfect in every way. Unbelievably happy and playful, smart, great with the kids and everyone he met. He went everywhere with me, even work. When I was sick he would lay in bed with me and not leave my side. He was my best friend.
Last Thursday I went out to play with him. He loved to chase me around the house. On this night when I rounded the corner their was a coon walking up the side of the house. Well he was hot on my heels and I'm sure you can guess what followed.
After the longest weekend ever I came to find out Monday the coon was positive for rabies. The only written proof of vaccination was from the breeder written on a piece of paper. We didn't get him until he was four months old and he had a one year appointment Monday afternoon.
After talking to every vet in the phonebook we ended up sending him to be euthanized. I sure could use some comfort right now. I only had him eight months but seemed to be more attatched to him than any dog I've had.
I know its not a human being but it sure does hurt.http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c85/Got2strum/Crushpics033.jpg

Thanks for listening ( reading ),

It is really hard to loose our beloved pets. For those of us who really love our animals it is really tough. They become a part of your family.
Just remember the good times and as they say....time will heal your wounds. Our boys still talk about the dog they grew up with who we lost to cancer 3 years ago. We now have 4 dogs...(drop offs)who we love...they are a part of our family but we will always miss our loyal and trusty friend we lost.
Good dogs are always remembered....never replaced.
We are thinking of you......

You sure can get close to a dog. Sorry to hear about having to put your's to sleep. Better than the suffering of rabies. I know that is easier said than done. I'm sure God has another dog for you.

Bill, Heartfelt prayers being sent your way Bro,
Some say they are only animals yet I do believe in many situations our pets are as much family members as any could be. As unique as each life is,I know that it's imposible to replace Him, Yet I pray that God will give a new companion that will bring you as much joy. Keenan

Sounds like you may have transfered some of the love from your two other dogs to this one and now you're reliving the loss of all 3!
Pets are people too. I can't have them due to allergies and it aches in my heart at times to have to stand off from dogs especially.
My heart goes out to you in this time of turmoil.
God will heal your heart from that loss like anything else in life. Leave it at the Cross. Keep the Son in your eyes!

Thank you very much everyone. Its comforting to hear the support. Its also nice to hear that others get just as attatched to their four legged friends. I think what Dock Nock said was right cause it sure is tuff.

I don't wish that on anyone! there is a hole right thru your mid-section that will be there for some time, and I will be glad to pray for you. I can tell you 1 thing I will be watchin my Lab a lot closer when he "goes potty".I am attached to my lab like white on snow, can't imagine, losing another one. You see we (my daughter and I) were out playing in the snow 3 yrs ago and I decided to let my dog out with us, it was snowing and the roads were coverd, and you know it, right in front of a truck, and my daughter saw it all.The hard part was taking all the blame, see she blamed me cause I let him out,yep it was a rough time for a while. But since then we got a akc reg. blk lab, funny thing was I wanted to name him some TOUGH name,SAMPSON,KILLER,but I allowed her to name him so now we have "flash"(hows that for tough), God Bless you,it'll get better.

Thanks again.
Redeemed,
Sorry to hear that about your last dog. I have a beagle that was hit by a car after she lit off after a rabbit when we opened the door to let her out. Amazingly she is still here and fine. Apparently, Crush was meant to go.

Prayers are sent. My wife & I had to do the same thing yesterday. For 3 mo our Maxie has been treated for an infection in his nose that developed into a tumor that we could not go any further with. We had Maxie who was a mini
Schnauzer for 11 years. We got him when he was 3 mo. old from a abusive home And it is really hard to loose our beloved pets. For those of us who really love our animals it is really tough. They become a part of your family as Miss Kim said. Like you he loved everyone & loved our kids & grandkids. I also called him my little buddy & he will be missed. As I type this my eyes are wet & my heart hurts for you also as I know your pain.
God Bless, Bob T.
