Title: 4" fletchers: What clamp do you use?
Post by: amicus on December 18, 2007, 11:59:00 AM
I ve been using 4x4" fletching and I really like that set up. But my clamp is a standered 5" or 6" helical rw clamp. I get a good helical twist with a longer feather but when flecth up some 4" feathers they seem almost straight. How do you get a good helical twist with 4" feathers? Do they make a clamp for shorter feathers? Thanks.

move the feather up or down to find the one you like.

amicus:
If you want more helical you will have to re-adjust your jig for the 4" feathers, if your go back to 5" re-adjust it again.

Thanks guys, I thought about just moving the feather up the clamp but that would move my fletching further away from the nock. I guess I should just play with and see how it looks.

If your clamp has an adjustment for the amount of offset, you don't need to move the feather in the clamp.  Just increase the offset and you increase the amount of twist.
