Well, I got my first bobcat and it was with my long bow.
I was home on leave in TN and was deer hunting. I had does under me all morning but the big 10 pt. I was after never got within shooting distance... one of those times when..dare I say.. I wish I had my gun. He was a wall hanger for sure but he kept hanging up about 50 yards away and I never got a clear shot.
Anyway, it was about 0900 and I had to go so I lowered my bow down to the ground and had just stood up and grabbed my hand climber to start down the tree. Just then my wife called on the phone and was going on and on about something.... you know how wives can do.. anyway I'm standing there listening FOREVER.. and I see movement to my left. Then I see that it is a bobcat walking down the fence row toward me. I quickly grab my rope and haul my bow back up, nock an arrow as he passes by at 10 yards but I have no shot, he then comes under the fence and stops quartering slightly away at about 22 yards. Well, my wife is still going on and on and I am not about to say a word so I grab the phone with my thumb and pinky draw back my bow and let loose with my homemade arrow tipped with a wensel woodsman, she didn't even hear the shot. I put the phone to my ear and she's still a talkin. I politely tell her I need to hang up to track my kill. He ran about 40 yards. I'm pretty stoked as this is the only cat I've ever had within shootin distance and I got it with a long bow.

Way to go! I am 0-3 on bobcats.
That's some trophy!!
Congrats!
Um, Chris.... those cell phone things have "off" buttons on them you know.... :p :p
Congratulations on a great cat! :notworthy: :notworthy: That's what I call concentration!
Way cool! Perfect concentration while tuning out the wife....Must have had some practice at that!
Cell phones have off buttons but wives don't and you better not try it. :knothead:
Great concentration and shot! :archer:
Dang nice!! Looks like a pretty big one! Didja weigh im by chance?
Pinky draw. Now there's a good one and you have no excuse NOT to change your handle. Congrats!
homebru
Awesome...makes a great trophy!
Way to go.
Predator hunting Predator. How Cool is That?! Nicely done..... :notworthy:
Nice, good story.
Your the man! Great men can multi task with ease just as you have shown by making a shot on your very nice bob cat, making the shot while still holding on to the cell phone and not dropping it to the ground and most impressive, tuning out the wife! All these things are difficult for mere mortal men to do one at a time. You my friend did them all at the same time!
Last year I saw my first wild bob cat while bow hunting a WMA near my home. It passed by my stand at 15 yards. Unfortunatly in NJ we are not allowed to shoot them but it was cool to see one.
Good shooting and nice story.
Congratulations on a great shot and lazer-like concentration. We should all have such focus.
Flash cat, congrats!!
Well done! Nice trophy! Thanks for your service!!
Wells
You must be married awhile if you can listen and shoot at the same time. That's one nice trophy! Thanks for your service to our country!
Is grand forks your base.I was staitioned thier 93 to 96 .THATS THE COLDEST PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN.I was staitioned in loring AFB from 89 to 93.I was KC135 flight line engine meck.
Wow Haf2hunt!
Nice Cat. I have always wanted to take a bobcat here in KY, but I have only seen one in all the years I have hunted. I have seen tracks and here them squaling at night during mating season, but have never seen one in bow (or gun!) range.
I did make a nice back quiver recently with a bobcat hide I bought which was trapped in Louisiana. Very similar coloration and fur length to yours. I will try to post a photo in the next day or so.
Way to go!
Harry.
A bobcat is a good traditional trophy. I got my first one last week with my recurve. I've had traditional buddies tell me they have wanted to kill a bobcat with a bow all their lives and have yet to. Congratulations!!
Classic....great story, and a great shot.
Now that's talent! Good job
Way to do it! I have seen a few cats, but never had a chance to shoot at one. Funny about the phone call.
Congrats, cool story lol
well done that is going to make a nice wall hanger for sure. :archer: :clapper:
Good job. Thanks for your service also. Now turn that dang phone off when you are hunting.. :D
This story reminds me of a joke and congrats on the cat too. It is a fart joke so it is funny.
Do you know why men fart more than women?????....because women don't stay quiet long enough to build up the necessary back-pressure.....
That really isn't the joke BTW. The joke is trying not to think of this joke the next time the love of your life goes on-and-on-and-on.
way to go, thats a nice cat.
Nice cat and funny story-that why I keep my phone on vibrate when in the woods-easier to say I didn't feel it.
Great story. That is one trophy I would love to have. Congratulations on a job well done. God bless you and our country. :notworthy:
Thanks all for the nice comments.
Yes tuning out the wife came kinda natural, shooting with three fingers came kinda natural but the holding the phone while shooting was a bit awkward... why the heck I answered the phone is still beyond me.
Kennym, I didn't weigh him but felt like about 25-30lbs
Longbowben, yes Grand Forks is where I'm stationed, I'm an avionics tech on KC-135's. Well I was, now I'm quality assurance. One of those guys. And it is definitely the coldest place I've ever been.
I'm getting a full body mount but still not sure on the pose.. anyone have any good suggestions? I'm thinking of him kinda lying on a tree branch with his legs hanging down. That way I can mount it on the wall and not take up too much room.
Holy Cannoli now that's a trophy for sure!
Now that's impressive!!
Very Nice Cat... CONGRATS !!!
That is awesome Very Nice!!! Congrats!! The only bobcat i have seen is when trapping it was about 10yds away and took off. That was sweet. Congrats!!! :clapper: :clapper:

Great job!
That's a great accomplishment, those suckers are stealthy!! CONGRATS!!!
Great job and congrats on a great cat! ;)
Nigel
Sure you can use it,my taxidermist had a bunch of form pics to look at,I liked the more natural look and I just picked a stick the right size(with no bark) out of the fencerow near where I took the cat. Was first gonna make a mount across a corner, but decided on the hall mount.
