Title: Old Bow ID Please?
Post by: wooddamon1 on March 31, 2016, 08:32:00 AM
I dug this out of my garage a few  days ago. I got it from a Mr. Glenn Wilson, who made a couple other bows that are also hanging out there collecting dust. Wondering if this is home made or maybe something I haven't heard of (which is very possible). Looks to have been refinished a long time back, only mark of any kind is the banner emblem, no writing at all.

Gonna finish restoring it and see if it's a shooter, if not it will hang in the hunting shack.

Before sanding:

After some initial work, the finish was in terrible shape:

Thanks for looking!

I had a couple old dual shelf Ben Pearson bows that looked a lot like that one at one time. Glass color was the same. Just a thought.

Thanks, wadde. That would be cool. I just spruced up an old Cougar for my dad after re-shaping the grip. This one was way more work sanding. Also had some bondo stuff under the leather grip to build up the narrow handle, that was fun...   :knothead:

Might be an Eddings. Decal looks familiar.

I am going to stick with an old Pearson double shelf. I have and have had a lot of Eddings bows over the years and they are not that plain looking on the riser/handle. The Eddings bows had a lot of curvature to the limbs and the handles were usually multi laminates. I have not seen an Eddings bow with two shelfs. That does not say they don't exist but until I see one I will say your bow is not an Eddings.

Whatever it is I hope it's a shooter when I get time to finish it. I used super glue and clamps to repair some slight delamination on both tips, which have no overlays. I'll get pics up when it has some finish.

Not that it matters, but the riser wood (walnut?) looks very similar to an old Pearson Cougar that I restored for my Dad. Probably common on a lot of different bows back then, though...
