Title: Vintage Herters Brace Height
Post by: mangonboat on July 29, 2015, 11:35:00 PM
I bought a 1963 Herters, 36#,  for my daughter that was described as 66" but is 69" by my measurement. Using the limb stickers on many older Herters bows as a starting point of string 5.5" less than bow length, I put a 63.5' string on but I've got a brace height of 9.5 inches, which looks okay on a very long bow but seems too high. So anybody with suggestions for brace height, tuning, please chime in.

Here's some photos...long rosewood riser (lots of mass) with  wide ,relatively short limbs . No overlays on the limb tips.

Most herters have a long brace height, yours will be somewhere between 9 3/4 to 11 1/2"

hey there... I've collected Herters bows and such for a long time. Firstly, I'm pretty sure that most of their bows were made by Pearson, so you could look in that direction for a suggested brace height. From your pics, it looks about right, given the way the string is laying down against the tip area. But really, you just need to go with arrow flight. If the flight is good, your brace is good.
