Title: How should I refinish a '62 Bear coin?

Does anyone have suggestions (or experience) on how to restore the enamel-like black finish that seems unique to the '62 Bear coin?

I just received a like new '62 Kodiak and I now see what the coins in my other '62 Bears should look like!

On my KS, the black finish has flaked off of half the coin. On my Grizzly it is missing entirely.

I have never seen one that isn't missing some of the paint so I am not really sure what new coins looked like.

Once upon a time in a similar situation, I used some vaseline and a Qtip to coat the high spots and then spray painted the item; I think it was the emblems on my Honda 750 fuel tank.  After the paint hardened I just wiped them with a cloth and the paint with the vaseline under it wiped right off.  It worked like a charm.

Be carefull working with those particular coins.  They are super soft and will bend and dent quite easily.

They are all like that. Paint it black and lightly sand, a couple coats of poly and it should be fine.
