Title: Unkown (to me) broadheads
Post by: LostNation_Larry on March 21, 2014, 03:10:00 PM
I recently received a quiver with 20 arrows in it, including these three broadheads.  One says Hilbre, one looks like a Magnus, and I haven't a clue on the third.  If I can get the picture displayed, does anyone recognize these?

I can buy the first two being Hilbre and Zwicky, but the bottom one has a ferrule totally different from modern Ace heads.  Did they have that kind of ferrule in the past?  I could work on a better picture if it would help.  BTW, I've never heard of Hilbre.  Where can I find history on them?

I believe that's an Ace Big Game that was made in 1944.

The Hillbre heads were made from 1959 thru 1966 and were patented by HC Stockfleth. 4 blade heads with plastic ferrules. There were many variations over these years. They are quite common in my neck of the woods. He also patented a nylon head marked Nybre which was in 1954.

Just got in 3 arrowmate broadheads. I have a few editions of Wades book and can't tell what year these are. In the first edition Wade has out they show a 1963 head that looks like this, and in the new edition the 1963 is not present and shows a 1976 that looks the same. These heads measure almost 3" on the money. If anything they may be 1/32 shy.

Your heads look more like the 1958 version than the 1963 version.
